Or is it too soon to be asking Blush

Today I sorted through all our decorations and was thinking about a date.
We don’t go for a fresh tree but we will be away over Christmas so I want to put the tree up soon!

Get those twinkle lights out ✨

The first weekend in December

Cachailleacha · 03/11/2018 18:06

Do the people who put their tree up right before Christmas and leave it up well in January do so for religious reasons?
I'm not religious. We will be getting our decorations out in early December (no specific date). I don't take them down until Twelfth Night (or later) because to me it's still Christmas. School doesn't go back until the 7 January next year (ours anyway), so it is still school holidays too. I have left some decorations up until Candlemas before.

January is just cold and dark with nothing to look forward to, but as long as the decorations are up then it's still Christmas!

Last year we decorated on 1st December as we were asked to put everything up for estate agent photos. This year DS finishes school on 14th December and we will be decorating on Monday and Tuesday of the following week. Decorations stay up until 12th night.

Around 10 days-2 weeks before Christmas day.

gladstonefive · 03/11/2018 18:11

Goes up first weekend in December, comes down first weekend in January (or on the second if we are off work)

Most of my family take theirs down day after Boxing Day- but to me NY is still part of the festive season and couldn’t imagine celebrating it without a tree in front of the fire nursing a hangover on NYD!

TheWiseWomansFear · 03/11/2018 18:22

December 12th. As is traditional in my family

TheWiseWomansFear · 03/11/2018 18:23

It won't come down until early Jan though as we have to travel to see family until NYE

yesmelord · 03/11/2018 18:27

Husband is working loads over December this year so getting the decorations down and up on the 29th November. A little early but I'd rather him be here when they go up Smile

Sammilouwho · 03/11/2018 18:31

We will be doing my in laws decorations next weekend, my MIL loves Christmas and is going in for a huge operation in the next couple of weeks so won’t be able to do anything so myself and SIL are going to do it to cheer her up.
The decorations at my house won’t be going up until the 20th December though.

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 03/11/2018 18:32

First weekend of December. Before then is just too early.

ShatnersBassoon · 03/11/2018 18:40

The week before Christmas usually. DH will be out putting the external lights on the house (plain, gold, non-flashing) for the start of advent though - it takes him that long to do, he'll have them up for as long as is vaguely respectable.

bebesequin · 03/11/2018 18:51

Beginning of December or at least first weekend.
Always down 2 January .

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 03/11/2018 19:03

I put ours up the last day of November. I think its lovely the kids waking up on the 1st and the house being decorated with the calendars waiting. We don't really have a set day for taking them down but never do it before the 30th. Normally we take them down either the 2nd or 3rd of January but have done it on the 30th of December if it would mean leaving them up way into January.

I really don't understand peoples comments on here about this though. 'You'll be bored by Christmas eve' , 'what's the point'. Some people obviously like it and don't get bored. Does it really matter what others do? I'm not saying don't have an opinion, for me, now is to soon....I also find Christmas Eve would be to late.....but that's just my preference, wouldn't think much of it if others did that. Its just the snipy comments that make me Hmm .

I agree with another poster too, for me Christmas starts way before the actual day. We do Christmas crafts, days out, movie nights etc all through December, we celebrate the whole month. I absolutely adore it and will admit I spend most of November waiting for December!

Mrsfussypants1 · 03/11/2018 19:12

I'm putting ours up Sunday 25th of November. I've got 1 week holiday and then into full busy for the rest of the year. So I'm going to make the most of it, new house and all new decorations. Planned the whole day, music playing in the background and then when it's all done sit down to watch a Christmas movie and eat Christmas snacks with all the Christmas lights on. Every year im always so busy i bearly
have time to glance at tree then it's time to take it down again, and I so love Christmas and I'll never get bored of tree. So ill be sucking up all christmas i can get over that week off.

Mrsfussypants1 · 03/11/2018 19:16

Oh and we take tree down newyears eve or new years day. Ideally new years day. I like that magical bit inbetween celebrations and like tree to still be up. Reminds me of childhood when times where more relaxed and all shops were closed over Christmas and you could enjoy the holidays.

PrincessConsuelaBannanaHammock · 03/11/2018 19:16

We usually put ours up the first weekend in December and it's usually always down before new year [santa]
This year with a one year old however I have a feeling it might be down even earlier if I can keep it in one piece that long 😂

MongerTruffle · 03/11/2018 19:17

The last Saturday of November

BarbedBloom · 03/11/2018 19:32

CoodleMoodle · 03/11/2018 19:57

1st weekend in December, mostly for DD's benefit. Baby DS might enjoy the lights too.

I like it but do look forward to taking it down again!
