Gifts for extremely environment conscious vegans

I have a friend who is extremely conscious of the environment to the point that she only buys cucumbers if they don’t have the plastic packaging on, which I think is great and I’m trying to be more like her!

So anything with excess packaging is completely out. She makes all her own gifts- useful things that she knits herself. I was thinking of getting her a gift voucher to her favourite wool shop but I’m not sure if that exists yet.. need to do some research first.. along with some vegan chocolate treats and her favourite tea. If anyone has any other ideas they’d be much appreciated!! Thanks!!

An Ethix kit?
Erm sorry...

CaseStudyResearch · 27/10/2018 18:56

The Green Roasting Tin cookbook and a ceramic roasting tin with spices?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/10/2018 19:01

Case - That's a great idea.

I have a rather nice tshirt made from bamboo and recycled plastic. I was event specific, but I guess there will be others in general sale.

Wrap in newspaper tied with string.

Flashingbeacon · 27/10/2018 19:18

Couldn’t decide to get some adults who have asked specifically for no stuff. They have babies under a year old. Birth certificates all round. And I’ll have one instead of an advent calendar I think too.
Thanks for the tip.

If she's not got much money I would buy her nice versions of things she will use. Nice biscuits or chocolate, bubble bath, whatever she uses. But nicer than usual versions. If she's skint she'll be buying cheaper versions for herself and might appreciate fancier ones for a treat.

Maybe some homeware like a throw or a cushion that she wouldn’t otherwise buy herself? Traidcraft have some lovely gifts online.

Last year I bought a load of scarves from oxfam and used them to wrap my presents in. Ultimate in recyclable wrapping. I got a book called Wrapagami from Amazon but gave up on some of the complicated ones.

Elvis and Kresse depending on your budget

I have Hairy Growler jewellery too - made from recycled coins and cutlery

Something from a charity shop? A nice tea set or ornament?

Plants for the garden

Depending how crafty you are - what about a selection of hemmed Christmas fabrics and fabric ribbon that she could use for reuseable Christmas wrapping each year?

dontalltalkatonce · 27/10/2018 20:32

Bamboo toothbrushes?

AllTakenSoRubbishUsername · 27/10/2018 20:45

Haha! Oxfam Goat. Love it! I like the Jute bag with personally selected gifts. Can't improve on that.

anniehm · 27/10/2018 20:49

Traidcraft have lots of ethical gifts including bamboo socks that are really good. I bought them for my vegan brother last year. I second lush for vegan toiletries etc shampoo bars that mean no plastic (and they are knowledgable so can suggest things). Best thing to wrap in old fashioned brown recycled paper (fully recycleable) and stamp with a Christmas stamp (from any craft store)

AnnaMagnani · 27/10/2018 23:20

If she knits then she would prob like wool from this shop (which might well be her dream shop):

I've got a vegan family member for secret Santa this year. I'm getting something (not sure exactly what yet) for growing their own veg. They only have a balcony so some kind of container and seeds probably. Also a nice box of vegan chocs.

Flower777 · 28/10/2018 12:09

What about a Keep Cup? That’s on my Christmas list.

mumsastudent · 28/10/2018 12:15

I made some almond butter at home (used golden syrup instead of honey) if she's not allergic to nuts! Oh it was good! (recipe on bbc) if you give jars recycle circles of material & use string around top to look pretty

BikeRunSki · 28/10/2018 12:33

Since trying to phase out palm oil, i’ve Found it really difficult to find something like Nutella. A Girl Called Jack has a recipe for it, I’d be delighted if someone made me some of that.

grumiosmum · 28/10/2018 13:06

Mooncup?

Rudgie47 · 28/10/2018 14:16

A mooncup!!!, I nearly chocked then on my hot chocolate.LOl
