My mincemeat is melting in the slow cooker atm, and it made me feel nostalgic for the Poncetastic thread. I've had a search, but can't see it.

I'm happy if someone else wants to start it, or this could be it!

Most of my poncing is kitchen based, although I'm planning to make seashell angels this year too, and maybe do something fiddly with acorns.

Also, I'm going to attempt to knit some presents.

Anyone out there? I'm poncing off now, but will check in later.

Lottie - yes it is a bit of an unfortunate term! In this case it comes from ‘poncetastic’ . I suppose from to ponce something up. A bit like pimp my ride! I have heard something being described as being a bit ‘poncy’ which I take to me a bit fancy.

Can I join in despite being a sleep deprived mother of a 9.mo and a lovely 3 yo? Less poncing will be done than I'm previous years as we are also moving house hopefully! One year I made everyone their presents (sloe gin, knitted hats and gloves, sewed crayon holder bags etc) and last year I sewed loads of outfits for DD1. This year I'll be doing Christmas cake - must do that this weekend - and need to sew a present sack for DD2. I am also.planning to hem loads of christmas fabric squares so I can wrap all presents in Japanese furoshiki style to cut wrapping paper waste. I've got my sil on board with this too. Think that's poncey enough for someone whose child wakes every 40.min Grin

I meant to say dd1 was lively but I guess she is lovely too ha ha

Yes, I realised (once the initial shock had subsided) that poncey and poncetastic do make sense - more following the 'effeminate man' meaning of ponce and something being 'a bit la de dah' if it's poncey. It's just that I don't think the nouns 'ponce' and 'pimp' have changed their meaning from the original. It's only the adjective and verb forms that have. So reading 'any ponces on here?' was straightforwardly old-fashioned and shocking to me, whereas 'any poncetastic poncers' would not be. Anyway, will be back to compare pomander recipes later (and, decorative strings of cranberries and popcorn are nice, for a North American touch).

At first I read "a sleep deprived mother of 9" @RangerLady and was in awe Grin then I read on and saw you're being wakened every 40 mins and I'm still in awe Grin

@CrazyBaubles has reminded me I've promised my nephew a batman blanket. I forgot Blush id better get to it because I have about a dozen projects to finish before Christmas!

I hope it's ok but I started a 2018 Poncetastic thread with the notes from Fellatio.

Well done VivaJen.

Will go and mark my spot. Not sure how much poncing will be done here though. May just live vicariously through everyone else and feel inadequate!
