Any Ponces Around?

My mincemeat is melting in the slow cooker atm, and it made me feel nostalgic for the Poncetastic thread. I've had a search, but can't see it.

I'm happy if someone else wants to start it, or this could be it!

Most of my poncing is kitchen based, although I'm planning to make seashell angels this year too, and maybe do something fiddly with acorns.

Also, I'm going to attempt to knit some presents.

Anyone out there? I'm poncing off now, but will check in later.

Oooh can I join please ? If I'm right in understanding what you mean by poncing then I am new to mn poncing but a couple of years ago ponced alone and ignored the rolling of family members eyes :-)

Marriage breakup and moving etc have caused a temporary cease in ponce related activities but gearing up again for this year .

I'm trying to figure out how to have Apples filled with tea lights on the table for the whole of December without having to redo them every day (suspect that is the only option)

NoWordForFluffy · 13/09/2018 13:25

Is it the smell or the look you want?

Varnishing would keep it fresh I think. But may burn the house down, so not ideal! Though if you put the tea lights in a shot glass in an apple that may work to prevent inferno!

Alanamackree · 13/09/2018 13:36

I shall be coasting on the Poncing of Christmases Past this year as I doubt I’ll be able to find time to tie tiny gingham bows to my spice jars

I had a brief spell of insanity during the summer and redecorated the living room with a yellow suite of furniture. It seemed so bright and summery but how on earth can I dress the room for Christmas? How should I break it to DH that we will have to replace everything with fifty shades of grey so I can have a lovely Nordic vibe with furs and sheep skins?

Gettingbackonmyfeet · 13/09/2018 13:55

Oh yes thank you actual varnishing would definately help (I can fake the smell and use led tea lights )

If DP catches me varnishing apples he might actually call the authorities but it's worth the risk !

EyUpOurKid · 13/09/2018 14:12

I'm starting to feel that warm smug glow I get for being Better Than Other People. That's the essence of poncing for me. (Kind of joking)

Grin Grin Grin

We are about to move so all my poncing had been put on hold until we're in. But I can't wait to make my own mincemeat this year. Fudge too, fudge is always a Christmas Ponce win. Grin

BlooperReel · 13/09/2018 14:34

Can I join and ease into the ponce? Moved into a new house, never had so much space and I am really wanting to make my own mince pies so I can be all smug and full of it when we have visitors Grin

Anyone have an amazing and easy mince recipe?

AlwaysPottering · 13/09/2018 15:35

Troysmammy no I’m not near Swansea at all but thanks anyway!
What about Vaseline on the apples? It works to preserve cut pumpkins.

Peridot1 · 13/09/2018 15:57

An early Poncetastic thread! I’ve been on them all but have name changed. I tend to buy my ponce in. But may make some of it this year. I definitely want to do a garland for the stairs.

There are tonnes and tonnes of blackberries around here at the moment so may collect some and do something with them.

No idea what we are doing for Xmas yet. Might be just me DH and DS. May have Mil. May have my sis and her family although I doubt it.

MikesJuppIsMyBitch · 13/09/2018 16:11

Like the garland chat. I've never really achieved that Ideal Home look on my banisters (or, indeed, anywhere else in my house), so if anyone has any great tips on layering/ length of garland-to-banister ratio or anything like that, I'd be very grateful.

Pinterest just has smug pictures with no tutorial.

Like I'd put up if I ever managed to do it, with #keepchristmassimple underneath, just for extra cunt points.

I really do want the tips, btw. I'm not poncing ironically, honest.

Alana a dark grey could work- think Scandi geometric, with gold and silver accents, something like....

TheGirlWhoLived · 13/09/2018 17:33

this vibe

It would work reeeeally well with copper/bronze too!

NoWordForFluffy · 13/09/2018 18:23

@Gettingbackonmyfeet just tell him it's poncing if he catches you!

ipswichwitch · 13/09/2018 20:10

I’m blackberry picking this weekend Peridot1, and planning to make blackberry vodka/gin with mine. Not for presents though, that’ll be for me 😁

MikesJuppIsMyBitch · 13/09/2018 20:14

I'm planning to make cranberry & orange gin as soon as I see fresh cranberries in the shops. I've bought my eBay gin-baubles, and they're going to be presents for friends, with some left for us, I hope.

Excited Definitely pre-ponce here, but this thread is kindling the early desire to ponce.

Will mostly be engaging in food poncery - fudges, treats, cakes etc

Fantasy ponce would be making my own wreath for the front door and shall be keeping an eye out for any classes/workshops.

Keep poncing ladies! (Assume mostly women here?) Will be joining you in full ponce later in the season.

Alanamackree · 13/09/2018 21:38

@TheGirlWhoLived I like that. You may save Christmas yet and my marriage

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 13/09/2018 21:41

Finally! Some poncing Grin I have been making Christmas tea today (cinnamon stick, cardamom and clove in a tin with some leaf tea).

Next thing is Christmas jam!

NoWordForFluffy · 13/09/2018 21:42

I want to make a wreath, but the classes are a touch dear for me.

NoWordForFluffy · 13/09/2018 21:42

What goes into Christmas jam?!

UnderMajorDomoMinor · 13/09/2018 21:50

Do we think curly/twisted hazel could be persuaded to do some bannister ponce work? Finally have bannisters this year - wanna ponce then up!

Alanamackree · 13/09/2018 22:00

I’d say you’d have to soak them to make them pliable enough to weave through the spindles (is that what you’re planning). Could be very dramatic.
I have some that I hang on the ceiling to hide the hooks holding the tea light baubles baubles but they are quite dry and brittle.

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 13/09/2018 22:02

Christmas jam: I have seen recipes involving cranberries and alcohol. But I have decided to use our surplus of apples and pears and add cinnamon and alcohol Xmas Grin

Looking forward to seeing the first pictures of everyone's poncing Smile

Here are last year's pinegnomes as requested upthread:

@NoWordForFluffy why don’t you just give it a lash? Wreath making is 98% confidence. Start with a form (say a wire coat hanger shaped into a circle) and take a bunch of greenery and use wire to secure it to the form. The next bunch is positioned to hide the wire of the first bunch, and so on all the way round. Then you can start adding interesting bits by poking them in.

NoWordForFluffy · 13/09/2018 22:06

I suppose I could just go for it! What's the worst that could happen?! Xmas Grin
