My mincemeat is melting in the slow cooker atm, and it made me feel nostalgic for the Poncetastic thread. I've had a search, but can't see it.

I'm happy if someone else wants to start it, or this could be it!

Most of my poncing is kitchen based, although I'm planning to make seashell angels this year too, and maybe do something fiddly with acorns.

Also, I'm going to attempt to knit some presents.

Anyone out there? I'm poncing off now, but will check in later.

I find it best not to weave in and out but to tie to top or bottom of stair spindles like a swag I’m going to try that this year. I think this is where I’ve been going wrong. Thanks @PeggyIsInTheNarrative

@Crazyhairbear can you post a recipe for microwave fudge?

elQuintoConyo · 16/09/2018 14:57

LOL Alanamackree you sound like my kind of ponce Grin

Microwave condensed milk fudge Recipe

(makes about 36 pieces)

125g butter, melted
600g castor sugar
1 tin condensed milk (397g)
1t vanilla extract

Combine butter, castor sugar and vanilla extract in a microwave safe bowl. Add condensed milk – do not stir. Microwave on high for about 10 minutes (stopping every minute to stir – so 10xtimes in total) or until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly and beat with a wooden spoon until the fudge starts to set. Pour into a square tin lined with baking paper and allow to set before cutting into squares.

Okay so it takes 10 minutes not the 2 that I suggested it did (really didn't feel like 10 minutes haha) I added white chocolate, cranberry's and pistachio nuts to mine. Xxx

Place marking as I love a bit of Christmas poncing Grin

ManicLoki · 16/09/2018 19:23

Oh hurrah the Christmas ponce thread [santa]

Can't wait to get started.

Might do something with an orange, a cinnamon stick, some cloves and an airing cupboard :)

TheGirlWhoLived · 16/09/2018 19:34

Sounds a bit “ carry on Christmas poncing” manic Loki Grin

duckling84 · 16/09/2018 19:43

Joining in! I really want a poncy Christmas but can't cook and am not very crafty. Reckon I can dry some oranges and spray paint a few pinecones though 😊

ManicLoki · 16/09/2018 19:55

Grin who knows TheGirlWhoLived, it is Christmas after all Wink

TheGirlWhoLived · 16/09/2018 20:09

😂

goose1964 · 16/09/2018 20:12

I have 2 left hands so food poncing is my go to. I'm going to start my cake soon, a bit late compared with normal. I'm making chocolate mint vodka again as that got drunk last year. I'm making DD coffee rum and the boys bacon jam. Still considering what to make DDiL probably something gin based

TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 16/09/2018 21:34

1t vanilla extract How much is a t please crazy? Love fudge!

LBOCS2 · 16/09/2018 22:08

Ah, my people.

I've decided that this year I'm going to make DH an advent calendar to show him how it's done. I've ordered a load of small jute bags from amazon and will stencil some tasteful pictures and numbers onto them, then fill them with things he likes/needs/wants. I'm getting pretty impatient that they haven't arrived yet - I think they're coming from China or similar.

Oh, and obviously Nigella's chilli jam. I've been saving pesto jars all year - they're just the right size for it.

NoWordForFluffy · 16/09/2018 22:20

I prefer this chilli jam.

It gets rave reviews from everyone who tries it. I've actually made my last batch of the season tonight!

I imagine that a 't' is a teaspoon.

WellTidy · 17/09/2018 09:24

I make Lorraine Pascale's Asian Chilli Jam every autumn in bulk. It is really easy and sooooo good. We have it with everything - cheese, pate, indian food (like bhajis), Chinese food (like spring rolls), the lot. You do have to boil it for longer than she says though, I find that it takes about 50 minutes.

I have my pinterest board set up with ideas for poncy decorations. I have zero skills, can't knit, crochet, sew etc. So I need to copy things that other people have made. I am fancying this kind of branch at the moment.

Wilhemenawonka · 17/09/2018 12:40

First ponce here.

I'm just blanching the veg from the allotment to for Christmas lunch.
Potatoes .

Onions, Celery, Squash, Beans, Carrots.

Also have crabapple liqueur, bilberry gin and sloe and orange gin on the go from foraging in the summer.

It's going to be a delicious home grown Christmas this year

TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 17/09/2018 14:43

I imagine that a 't' is a teaspoon

Ah, thanks. Wasn't sure if it was teaspoon or tablespoon to make it properly vanillay

VivaJen · 17/09/2018 18:50

Big thank you for starting the Christmas Ponce Chat!!! I love it! I have a free(ish) weekend so I plan to do mincemeat, cake and possibly a practice pudding. I will also be making sloe gin for the first time (v.excited about that one). The rest of the poncing will commence in October!

Thank you for the microwave fudge recipe - totally going to try that one.

NoWordForFluffy · 17/09/2018 19:18

I think a tablespoon of extract would be slight overkill! But always worth checking. 😁

I'm doing a chocolate and cherry pudding from the Good Food magazine this year. I've bought a pudding basin ready for it! Only FiL likes traditional pudding, so I'm doing one for the masses!

Bluebell9 · 18/09/2018 09:33

I'm going to ponce this year! I can't wait to get started. You've inspired me to make my own mincemeat and I have a fabulous mince pie recipe I'll share when I've dug it out.
I collected loads of pine cones last year but didn't so anything with them so they are my project this year.

Treats · 18/09/2018 10:35

Pondering some card poncing this year. For the experienced card makers out there , where do you get your supplies? Hobbycraft looks good but i’m wondering where else there is.

BiddyPop · 18/09/2018 10:47

Hmmm, chilli jam. I should have done some while DH was away on Sunday. Maybe I can try once DD is in bed some night he's away for work (and I have to get up for work the next day...). Actually, I just remembered I gave all my small jars to DM as I hadn't had time to make any jam etc in the past few years....

OK - any other ideas for using a reasonable handful of chillis off a plant in the garden as a pressie for DH?

I love to ponce, but I really don't get much time to do it. But this year, I am determined to make my Christmas table centerpiece in time for Christmas Dinner (last year, I DID actually make it, but on Boxing Day afternoon...)

TheWoollybacksWife · 18/09/2018 11:39

What about using them to make chilli infused oil Biddy?

BiddyPop · 18/09/2018 12:10

Oooh, I didn't think of that Woolly - great idea (and a good way to persuade DH back into the kitchen to cook a bit more - he's a good cook just out of the habit in recent years...)

eitak22 · 18/09/2018 13:54

I second the chilli oil, or perhaps look up a chocolate and chilli recipe? You could do the bark style stuff with chilli if you dry roast it.

eitak22 · 18/09/2018 14:05

treats I would also suggest The works for card making things depending on what you need as can be cheaper than Hobby craft (cards, stickers, ribbons etc). Also you can get some fab card making magazines with lots of freebies which can be very good for beginners (it comes with papers, stamps, etc).
