Just seen your update, sorry. In-store it is, then xx

ConstantlyCooking · 19/08/2018 08:40

I am away with DH for a belated birthday present. However, I have been browsing the matalan Christmas shop. I remember from previous years that you have to buy early because lots is stuff is sold out by mid November. The only problem is that I am decluttering KonMari style and shouldn't buy more stuff.

Those of you interested in retraining as teachers, pm me your questions and i will try to give my perspective.

FireflyGirl · 19/08/2018 08:52

Constantly - I'm sure I read a bit that says it's okay if you really lurves it Grin

Plus it's Christmas!

NoWordForFluffy · 19/08/2018 08:54

What Firefly said!

And anyway, it's in the loft for most of the year, so it doesn't matter how much there is!

flapjackfairy · 19/08/2018 09:03

There is yet another thread on the chat board with someone daring to say that they are looking forward to Christmas and being met with abuse and being told to eff off and called a c**t.
What is wrong with people ?
This is by far the nicest board on MN .

Mrsmadevans · 19/08/2018 09:24

Morning all Smile
Welcome to all the new people, lovely to see everyone looking forward to Autumn and Christmas Xmas Smile
Everyone is up really early today , l slept like a log last night but that was because l was so tired. We had a bit of drama yesterday, NDN fell and we had to go and sort him out. He is ok just in shock Shock, will pop around to see him later bless him, he has meals on wheels and 4 calls a day from the carers so he is well looked after . Also DD1 home from Uni and l had 6 loads of washing to do Xmas Grin. I did 5 loads last night and only have the whites left to do. There are washing machines in the halls but from experience they are disgusting filthy machines with mud and worse left in them. The amount of times l have to try to get the stains out of her white uniforms is awful. She just soaks them in very hot water now and rinses them in the kitchen bowl until she brings them home for a good boil Xmas Grin
I am off up to the parents to sort them out for the day , weather is getting Autumnal and l love it , so cosy Grin
Saw that if you put Christmas into the search bar on The Range online shop they have lots on there to see covet Xmas Grin
Better be off have a lovely day everyone!

AnotherShirtRuined · 19/08/2018 11:11

Finally caught up! I'm loving all the Matalan stuff but will try to resist as I have poncetastic ambitions this year. I've taking up crocheting and will attempt a few decorations. Possibly some placemats or coasters. Any suggestions would be most welcome Smile

I don't have a Christmas dinner set and am not 'allowed' one (we have neither the space nor the funds for it). That's OK, though, as our red Le Creuset is plenty Christmassy on it's own with a few decorations.

PerverseConverse · 19/08/2018 11:20

@AnotherShirtRuined crochet snowflakes from white yarn with silver threaded through it. I saw some at Quarry Bank Mill last year and they were so pretty on the tree.

SideOrderofSprouts · 19/08/2018 11:23

I saw that thread. It’s ok. We are closeted in our happy place over here

Why are people so mean about people who like Christmas? I don't swear at people who count down to their summer holiday all year and talk about what they will pack for months. Also they seem to think that we have nothing in our lives apart from planning Christmas. Christmas planning is a nice way for me to relax from my busy life.

CrazyBaubles · 19/08/2018 11:34

Thank you constantly I have pm'd you.

fur I really hope you start feeling better soon.

flapjack how are you doing? Fingers crossed you get home soon 🤞

lost I too have a red leather-bound notebook as my Christmas book. I love it!

I have a small Christmas dinner set. I was given the Spode Christmas tree set, just 2 mugs, dishes, saucers and plates. I was also given a serving dish. DH rolled his eyes when I opened them and he doesn't understand my excitement about them but I don't care. I've added a pic of the set (taken from google).

another I'm a crocheter too. I made mini wreath tree decorations using the plastic rings you get on the top of bottles, along with a few other bits (pics added).

I am on a mission to sort my house out today. Although I haven't seen spiders, there are spiderwebs everywhere, spun while we were on holiday. The light hits them randomly so I don't know where they all are.
My foot is still sore and I can't put it flat on the floor so hobbling a little. However, mrsmad I'm now debating losing myself looking at the Christmas stuff on the Range website before I move again!

I also really want a porcelain light up tree (like the pic I've added). Only ones I can find are ££££ though.

redgreen I couldn't agree more. I didn't join in on the 'we hate summer' threads even though I do because it just feels mean.
I don't think everyone is a grinch if they don't want to think about Christmas now, I don't understand the hate for people who want to think about it / plan ahead Xmas Hmm

PerverseConverse · 19/08/2018 11:40

@Redgreencoverplant those people are not our kind of people. I love planning. I plan for summer too but not like for Christmas. It's all about memories and traditions for me.

Redgreencoverplant · 19/08/2018 11:41

Exactly crazy and some people have to plan ahead due to finances or family living far apart etc. I completely understand that some people hate that Christmas dominates retail throughout the autumn now but there is no need for some of the language on that thread.

NoWordForFluffy · 19/08/2018 13:53

Afternoon! We've been blackberrying today. I think I have Firefly's share as in total we got about 2.5kg!

People can be wankers, can't they? There's no need to be like it at all. I'm amazed that Chat is that feisty though. Seems the nasty AIBU crew have headed that way. We will stay safe in here (other than the odd person who finds us via active threads and bleats 'But it's August!' at us! Xmas Grin

Last winter went on forever and I was thoroughly fed up of it by the time it finally turned warmer but I'm still looking forward to chilly yet cosy evenings. I usually watch a Christmas film around this time. I have to budget and get things a bit at a time so have to start early.

AnotherShirtRuined · 19/08/2018 14:13

Those blackberries look delicious!

I really like the look of that wreath CrazyBaubles. Is it your own creation or did you follow a pattern?

Thanks for the suggestion of snowflakes Converse. They are definitely on my list. DD and I made some Hama bead snowflakes a couple of years ago, but I'm sure crocheted ones would be much prettier.

CrazyBaubles · 19/08/2018 14:30

Another I found the pattern online - http://whiskersandwool.blogspot.com/2011/11/christmas-wreath-ring-christmas.html?m=11*

I have to say I love the Christmas boards. Definitely the friendliest part of MN!

Fluffy that looks like a good haul! I'm hoping to pick some as soon as I can walk properly. I want to try my hand at making jam this year.

I'm so happy. DH is going out for a few hours this afternoon so I am indulging in a Christmas candle and film while online Christmas shopping - I have to keep my foot off the floor so it's almost like I have no choice!

PerverseConverse · 19/08/2018 14:33

I might have to learn to crochet.....

FireflyGirl · 19/08/2018 15:47

Envy @Fluffy

I have done those wreaths, they're actually quite simple and I get a real sense of achievement when I finish each one. I've also done crochet snowflake garlands - I found wool in the pound shop with a glittery bit running through, so used that. They actually look really poncy lovely Grin

AnotherShirtRuined · 19/08/2018 15:48

CrazyBaubles Thanks for the link. They look pretty doable so have gone on my list Smile

SideOrderofSprouts · 19/08/2018 15:49

I can recommend this Attic24 pattern for crochet snowflakes.

I'm going to catch up with the thread later this afternoon but I hope Flapjack and her DS will soon be sleeping in their own beds and that DS is properly on the mend.
