Excellent presents for women that aren't...

Because @monkeymamma's thread for men is genius.

I'm looking for gifts for women (especially older women) that aren't:
Candles
Chocolate
anti-wrinkle cream
perfume
anything really twee and covered in flowers.

Particularly struggling with my mum this year, she is really into South American art and media. Budget 10-20 pounds.

Aren't they fab. My officemate got one from her DH (also a scientist) for her birthday and apparently her family were nonplussed but at work we all became very jealous of people with aromatic sidechains for initials.

Woolovers have 50% off their homewares today including lovely wool blankets. Wish I could have one!

My mum is having a gift bag with a few things in- a novel (we love reading), some bamboo socks, maltesers, Forrero Rocher, (I know choc but she loves those) a felted brooch that I've made and something else that I haven't thought of yet.

MiL is having some accessorize gloves that have pads so you can use your phone. She has bad circulation. Also a felted brooch.

Felted brooches are a bit crap but we are on a budget!

And the grandparents in our family love framed photos of the grandchildren. Or their pets?

Or perhaps a framed postcard of a favourite art exhibition, I would like that!

Loving this thread for ideas.

toboldlygo thanks for the pork pie link, it's a must for DH.

Im going to get my Mum and Step Dad (who are active but in their early 70's) either a Warner voucher, they love Warner holidays so can put it towards their next one;

voucher for afternoon tea for two at a venue they can choose.

Or; possibly, a hamper with some homemade chutney and lovely cheeses and biscuits.

I think a day out is a nice gift as its something you probably wouldn't buy yourself.

I am buying Christmas decorations for the hard to buy for women in our family. We all love things for our home. I have found some lovely white lanterns filled with LED lights in Waitrose, tealight holders made from bark, a small Christmas tree made from driftwood, and also some stunning Santa peg dolls decorated using pyrography, coloured with pencils and sealed.

Also, bulbs. Waitrose have spring miniature irises in a jug, which make a change from the usual hyacinths (I hate the smell).

margaritas Have you looked at Dunoon mugs on the temptation Gifts website? Porcelain and lovely patterns and colours. I think they are 20% off today. I buy lots of them - I like the Lomond shape best. We have many blobs, stars, hearts, stripes, splats, splots etc. Take a loo!

Didiusfalco · 21/11/2017 11:34

@lumpit I love that dslr strap - it’s just the kind of thing I would like someone to buy me buy couldn’t justify buying myself!

Best presents I have got where I opened it and thought 'hhmmm' are:

Stair basket - really boring, but SO useful for tidying all the stuff out of downstairs

V shaped pillow - was bought for me and I thought only old ladies have these but Oh my God the comfort

Heavy duty Sellotape dispenser - the most hmmm of them all when opened but has changed my life (bit dramatic ), it sits on office table, can get a bit of tape one handed as its so substantial- no more wrestling with stuff, or scissors

margaritasbythesea · 21/11/2017 13:42

Thank you WellTidy. I am off to check now.

Thank you so much for the link to the Willoughby Book Club. I've just got my mum a 6 month subscription for Mothers Day.
