Do you think it's wrong for people to buy must have toys and sell them at huge profit on EBay etc?

I do. I think it’s pretty mercenary.

Even the toys that are not supposedly must have toys seem to be sold out already.

Your dd may be disappointed if you can't get hold of a big lol but to be fair, they're are thousands and thousands of other toys you could choose from. I'm sure if you took her into a toy shop, she would look at and play with tons of toys, she must have other interests. If it's that important to get one though, keep checking Stock Informer and sign up to stock alerts on individual websites. There's still time.

Perhaps you should be more prepared then and not wait until the middle of November to wonder why so much is sold out.

‘Perhaps you should be more prepared then and not wait until the middle of November to wonder why so much is sold out.’

I’ve finished my Christmas shopping. This isn’t necessarily a thread about me since I don’t only think about myself. Would you say that to people who can’t afford to buy presents until November?

It depends upon the age of the child.
At age 7-8 DS wanted something which I couldn’t get anywhere except eBay at a vastly inflated price. I showed him the vastly inflated price and son moly said we couldn’t afford it but would get it for him when back in stock later in the year. Despite being autistic he was able to understand that.

He is now 14/15 and wants a gaming laptop which starts at around the £1000 mark! Shock naturally being a teenager he is less understanding about the “can’t afford that” comment but too bad...he won’t be getting that either....just full marks for sheer cheek Grin

So turn the you into a generic you. Still works.

And clever people on low budgets specifically buy toys throughout the year to avoid this exact thing happening.

It's the same reason shops start selling Christmas cards in August; the majority of shoppers buying them then are those who want to spread the cost.

tinytemper66 · 12/11/2017 11:31

No one has to buy them though!

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 12/11/2017 12:43

There you go again with the hyperbole and handwringing about minor issue
Unfathomable is an adult inability to calmly explain to child the much wanted Xmas toy wasn’t available
I didn’t get everything I asked for,and on occasion was told no,too expensive . I’m not damaged or bereft.i managed my disappointment and chose something else

lottieandmia22 · 12/11/2017 12:49

What exactly are you referring to when you say ‘hyperbole’? Which quote?

OP posts:
lottieandmia22 · 12/11/2017 12:52

This isn’t about not being able to explain to a child they can’t have X toy. We probably all do that every time we go into town. So don’t patronise.

The thread is about people buying toys they don’t need which takes them off a child. I think that is selfish. Children are children for a short time.

OP posts:
LipstickHandbagCoffee · 12/11/2017 12:57

More hyperbole!
Children are children for a short time ?What’s that actually mean
IMO that’s a Meaningless sugar coated empty phrase

lottieandmia22 · 12/11/2017 13:05

Ok, you don’t seem to have a reasonable argument you’re just rubbishing what I say. Might I suggest you buy a thesaurus?

I have three children - they are nearly 16, nearly 14 and 8. They do grow up very quickly. There is a limited time that they even ask for toys. And they learn about the real world of selfish people who shit on each other soon enough.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 12/11/2017 13:08

The thread is about people buying toys they don’t need which takes them off a child.

Incorrect. They're buying the toys to sell at a higher price, so a child will still receive them because people are willing to pay that price.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 12/11/2017 13:09

Of course you think I’m unreasonable,we are in complete disagreement duh, so you would say that wouldn’t you!Given we are diametrically opposed
I’m asking what it means, children are children for short time it’s like a hallmark card sentiment

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 12/11/2017 13:10

The eBay seller is actually opening up choices to buyers who can afford the price
So in fact a disappointment may be avoided as parent buys in demand item in time for Xmas

lottieandmia22 · 12/11/2017 13:13

I’ve just told you what it means. It’s not sentimental it’s a fact.

OP posts:
LipstickHandbagCoffee · 12/11/2017 13:15

It’s your perception of fact,it’s not a given or a universal.its your spin on childhood
Children grow up yes,it’s not inevitable that folk are rotten to them

lottieandmia22 · 12/11/2017 13:15

If it’s an ethically ok thing to do then why do the sellers feel the need to cover up the fact that they are buying toys specifically to make an huge profit? For example ‘I accidentally bought two Luvabella dolls now I’m selling one for £180’ yeah right!

OP posts:
lottieandmia22 · 12/11/2017 13:17

I think most people will agree that life can be stressful and worrying. And that as a child you don’t have those stresses 🤷🏻‍♀️

Childhood isn't made by material goods, it's made by experiences.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 12/11/2017 13:20

Might I say yiu revisit your own thread, and all it’s idiosyncratic flaws
You said
The thread is about people buying toys they don’t need which takes them off a child

Incorrect
Buying and selling on eBay ,means the toy is not retained or removed from circulation ,the toy is sold to a buyer who presents it to a child.

eBay creates other options & choices for those who can afford the price, price is what a buyer will pay

lottieandmia22 · 12/11/2017 13:28

‘Childhood isn't made by material goods, it's made by experiences.’

I did not say that childhood is about material goods.

OP posts:
LipstickHandbagCoffee · 12/11/2017 13:29

Childhood is not an absence of stresses, kids get stressed.it isn’t wholly an adult thing
And if you think buying toys removes childhood stress you’re sadly misguided
As someone said childhood is experiences, not possession of must have toy

lottieandmia22 · 12/11/2017 13:30

Lipstick I really have no idea what point you are trying to make.

We’ll just agree to differ.

OP posts:
LesDennishair · 12/11/2017 13:32

Is anyone else finding repeated use of the word 'hyberbole' irritating now. Grin
