Do you think it's wrong for people to buy must have toys and sell them at huge profit on EBay etc?

I do. I think it’s pretty mercenary.

I thought Hatchimals were a very unusual concept. It would be difficult to like 'that sort of thing
Each to there own I suppose.

I actually had to look up a few of the items you mentioned there. For someone not following fads or affected by advertising, you seem to be very familiar with a good few fads.
I have school aged dcs. You just get to know this stuff. I really cant believe anyone with a mn account has never heard of frozen, loom bands and fidgit spinners Hmm

I dont see how that's contradictory?
Or splitting hairs. Are you saying because my dc likes lol toys then she almost certainly associates "good things" with "good toys" or in this case one particular toy.

You seem hell bent on picking holes in everything I say. Can't you just accepted that not every child who likes playing with lol toys isn't a fashion crazed, shallow, fad following, self obsessed spoiled brat.

Christmas do is a Christmas celabration that usually consists of work colleagues going out and getting wasted. Bit of fad really not surprised you've never heard of one.

I managed to get my luvabella recently, after weeks and weeks of searching. Dd likes dolls and it’s just unfortunate for me that luvabella happens to be the ‘must have’ toy of 2017. There was no way I was going to pay more than the shop price for it though.

I’ve known for a while, and supposedly ( from an acquaintance in the industry) they knew in January it would likely be*
But they wasn't available to buy then was they?
I'd never even seen the big ones until late September. When I went to see where I could buy them from everywhere said "coming soon" I just assumed that they hadn't been UK released yet. It's wasn't until October time I realised they was a thing.
It was only in the spring when I attempted to swap some and No one had ever even heard of them.

FunnyFarmer I don’t know the details as I knew/ nothing about them, but the person is in very senior management and has meetings all over the place with massive company’s in many different sectors.

I don’t know the person very well but I heard from him online on the 6th October that if anyone wanted one they’d be the number 1 girls toy this year and they’d be gone soon, and that when he and his team saw them in January they liked the idea and knew they’d be big this Christmas. It amazes me that they can know essentially a year in advance it’ll be a hit

Do you know when they actually went on sale in the uk @FrustratedTeddyLamp.
Me too. The collecters dolls have been out for ages. I didn't even think they sold that well tbh maybe they sold better than I thought so maybe they went off sales of them. I've never even seen them advertised either. Think most toy manufacturers send them to YouTubers now a days instead of tv advertising. Maybe they go off how popular the YouTube videos are

It seems a few people are not really aware of how marketing and advertising works, if you're surprised that toy manufacturers can predict the items that will fly off the shelves in ten to twelve months.

You should get acquainted with how it works, and teach your children not to be suckered into the game. Do you think manufacturers produce millions of a particular toy straight off the top of their heads and just cross their fingers afterwards?

The Christmas do sounds pretty magical.

Math ironically I graduated with a marketing degree and I know how things are done but yes it still surprises me somewhat that it’s possible.
