I keep seeing/hearing people saying it’s November tomorrow my tree can go upShock

I don’t put mine up till the first weekend in December! When do you put yours up?

The tree will appear a week before Christmas here. And be taken for recycling on New Year’s Eve.

Goes up the closest weekend to kids breaking up (17th I think this year) and comes down sometime before new year. We have a tiny house and tbh itnjust gets in the way

LapdanceShoeshine · 01/11/2017 18:01

The last 3 years it’s been 18th or 20th. DD1 teaches in NYC & that’s been the earliest she could get home (she & DD2 have taken over tree-decorating responsibilities)

This year though they don’t break up until Fri 22nd so she won’t be here until Sat 23rd so that will be Tree Day. We get a fresh-cut tree mid-December & it will live in a bucket of cold water in the back yard until then Smile

Any time after bonfire night. I don’t have a set date, more whenever I suddenly get really excited and want it all up, I put it up

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/11/2017 18:27

The weekend after my DS birthday .

So this year the 9th/10th we start putting up ( though I do fewer decorations now, there's not the need to cover every surface in the house with festive stuff)

Everything is taken down on New Years Day .

Caroian · 01/11/2017 18:36

Usually second weekend in December. We have a real tree and even when properly watered, being inside with central heating makes them look a bit miserable by Christmas if it goes up too soon.

FlooOOOooomplet · 01/11/2017 18:43

First day of December or weekend closest to it, whether that be the very end of November. It isn’t worth doing for just a week or so.

crimsonlake · 01/11/2017 18:46

Poor children, taking the tree down boxing day, Christmas does not last long in your house.
Mine goes up the week before Christmas and my grown up sons are not at all happy when it has to come down on the 12th night.

summerlovinggirl · 01/11/2017 19:12

The law in our house (ok my law - DH hates it!) the trees go up on 1st December. If I’m feeling really brave, I put them up a few days earlier but I get nagged at by DH! We have 4 trees so it’s takes a while to get everything up.
They always come down on New Years Day so I can start the new year with a clean tidy house (for all of 10 minutes!!)

ToastyFingers · 01/11/2017 19:19

First weekend of December here too, my sister puts hers up mid November because she gets over-excited, bless.

Fffion · 01/11/2017 19:20

On a weekend, 7 - 10 days before Christmas.

Blackandpurple · 01/11/2017 19:24

Last Sunday in November so 26th

OwlKiss · 01/11/2017 19:27

Day after school breaks up.

I will have to remember to buy it before that though, and keep it in the garden - as judging from everyone else's replies they are going to mostly be sold out by the 1st December Shock

FurryDogMother · 01/11/2017 19:30

This is very outing (hi, anyone who knows me irl!), but our tree has been up all year :) I took the Christmas decos off it in February, and replaced them with egg decorations for Easter. Then I took those off, and we had butterflies and dragonflies, plus daisies in the summer. Right now it's covered with spiderwebs and witches for Hallowe'en, and shortly I'll be taking those off and putting some autumn leaf garlands on there, to be followed, in December, with yer actual Christmas decorations :)

MadisonAvenue · 01/11/2017 19:30

When our children were young it always used to be the Saturday closest to Dec 1st. I always swore that I wouldn't make my own children wait until very close to Christmas for the trees to go up, like my parents had.
Now they're older I always think I'll leave them until mid-December but come the 1st I'm always itching to get the decorations and trees out of the garage.

I'm always bored of them once Boxing Day is over so they're usually down and packed away before New Year's Eve.

GherkinSnatch · 01/11/2017 19:31

In previous years we've done the 1st of December, but not this year. DS really noticed that Christmas was everywhere in the shops from November, but once our tree went up he just couldn't settle for the whole month - it was too much for him to deal with because he was only 3 and couldn't understand that he still had 24 days to wait. So this year we'll be putting it up a week or so beforehand, as DD is now at that sort of age and with DS being at school doing nativities/parties/fairs etc I don't think he needs the extra distraction.

gentlydoesit89 · 01/11/2017 19:36

My DS loves to help me but will be at his dads the 1st weekend of December, then I’m away with work the 2nd weekend so this year, as a one off, it’ll be the 24th November. We didn’t get to have a tree last year as we were flooded so I don’t mind having them up a little early.

WitchSharkadder · 01/11/2017 19:51

Usually towards the end of the first week of December we decorate for Christmas (DC with early December birthday so a few days after that). I always keep Christmas out until twelfth night too. Nothing lovelier than cosy evenings with twinkly lights and a tree. I don’t understand why people get sick of them and want them down so soon after Christmas, why would you be relieved for grey, damp, dull January and all that bareness?

Weebo · 01/11/2017 20:08

The earliest I can get DH to cave in. :o

shushpenfold · 01/11/2017 20:11

When school has finished and not a day before!!

Giraffe888 · 01/11/2017 20:52

DP has caved to my nagging and agreed to 18th November!

lastnamefirstfirstnamelast · 01/11/2017 20:59

Well Dec 1st is on a Friday so the plan is to stick the holiday on, pop out the bubbly and decorate baby! Yay! Xx

gentlydoesit89 · 01/11/2017 21:46

@Giraffe888
That’s my birthday, maybe DP will let me decorate as a present to myself! Grin

Insomnibrat · 02/11/2017 01:38

As close to the 1st of Dec as weekend falls.

TBH it's so much effort to get it all together and put up (2 days easy, Mother goes OVERBOARD), that we like to get our time-value out of it.

DeadDoorpost · 02/11/2017 01:51

1st December here.

Parents tree is already up. Went up the 28th October

When do you put your Christmas tree up?
