Christmas wrapping inspiration

I always do a "theme" for my Christmas presents every year, last year the children's presents were made to look like ballerina's and toy soldiers, and the adults were silver paper with white ribbon and white poinsetta's. This years children's presents are being wrapped to look like ginger bread houses but I need inspiration for my adults. Can you post your past wrapping creations if you have any please Flowers

I love wrapping, it's one of the best bits of Christmas, and seeing all the pretty presents under the tree makes me so happy!
I hide all the uglier ones that have been given to us at the back underneath all my beautiful tasteful ones Grin Grin
No pictures, but my favourite ones are with the wrapping paper I got from Cox and Cox, navy blue with little gold stars, a big thick gold ribbon tied around with a little cluster of jingle bells attached.
Also love chalkboard paper and chalk pens.

For adults - jewelled bows. Wrap in a paper with patterns rather than pictures, or just a plain colour. Use ordinary string to go round present. Get glitter glue in a tube and squeeze it out all along the spring making the bow until all string is covered. Use sequins, beads, whatever jewelly bits you have, and stick onto the glitter glue. You may need tweezers. Leave to dry ( takes at least 24 hours) you get a beautiful stiff jewelled bow. It takes a load of glitter glue though and you need to have some where to leave them to dry.

I think this might be my favourite thread ever.
I'm not anywhere close to your league OP (bows to master) but in the interests of sharing ideas....

The year before last I did brown paper and jute with clippings of pine, cinnamon sticks and clove studded orange slices. I soaked the jute for a few days in a tisserand "seasonal joy" oil blend for extra smelliness. Friends and relatives are still hoovering up shrivelled pine and splinters of cinnamon.

In our old house we had big silver birches and I wrapped pieces of the papery bark around the middle of gifts, with raffia and little larch cones.

Last year I found a beautiful embossed velvety cream paper (meant for weddings) and paired it with cream satin and dull gold organza ribbons and threaded little gold bells into the bows.

For awkwardly shaped gifts I've made hessian sacks that I tied with gingham ribbon and gold bells (like little santa sacks, I thought, but was told they were more like potato bags)

I'm thinking of doing something with old maps next year if I can find any in charity shops etc. No doubt DH will have some wry comment given my inability to read one.

It's also in the back of my mind to do a scrabble theme some year using the original green and red colours of the old scrabble game box, and making name tags from scrabble tiles. I just haven't found the right shade of paper for it yet.

whatwillicallmyself · 05/10/2017 22:25

OMG they are amazing the santa stuck in the chimney is fabulous I have never seen anything like it, fair play to you all for going to so much trouble with your wrapping.

I love this thread! Everyone is so creative, I also love wrapping and try and do a theme each year, still haven't decide this year.

Blogwoman · 05/10/2017 22:56

Ooh Ann I've been tempted to try something with old maps - any ideas? Our local Oxfam book shop has loads. Or old sheet music, though it feels a bit wrong to use either thing like that!

Blogwoman · 05/10/2017 22:57

Old sheet Christmas music! Even better!

SundayLunchHappy · 06/10/2017 04:01

I love anything that plays up to my Victorian obsession... dh would probably have a fit if I actually tried to put real candles on the tree though!

Can't wait to get the tissue paper, ribbons and glue gun out!

Ohh Annwithnoe I don't suppose you have any pics of your wrapping from last year do you, that sounds beautiful?

MrsCrimbo it never even occurred to me to take a photo, and now that I've seen yours I wish I had!

Blogwoman I feel that reluctance to destroy something like maps and music too. I tried using newspaper one year but it was surprisingly hard to find suitable sheets and I gave up.

Primark have a beautiful constellation patterned gift wrap in stock at the moment. It's a dark cloudy grey with white stars and gold animals on it (very hard to describe). Its not intentionally Christmassy but would lend itself well to gold foil and white trimmings. I'm trying not to get distracted from the paper and ribbons I bought for pennies and stored last January.

ArcheryAnnie · 06/10/2017 15:08

Blogwoman if you are in a charity shop looking at sheet music, look for the stray, orphan pages, rather than the complete sets. Nobody wants the orphan pages, so you are doing them a favour!

I've also kept a couple of beloved old paperbacks that are disintegrating too much to re-read for the bazillionth time, and use the pages for cutting tags out of.

Blogwoman · 06/10/2017 18:33

Good point Archery.

INeedToEat · 06/10/2017 19:12

I'm not very artistic but i do enjoy making an effort. These are so easy to do and the bows even come pre tied. I usually pick a theme (red and white for Christmas and put glitter and chocolate coins inside the cellophane - for added mess 😁

I love this thread and a huge thank you to everyone who has shared their ideas. I have DC and DGC and I think I will do the reindeer wrapping for DGS who will be nearly 3. He will love finding his presents from the pile under the tree.

Sadly, I do not have any wonderful wrapping ideas to share..... :(

I felt I was doing well last year hanging all the stockings on the bannisters :)

Chottie · 07/10/2017 06:14

Sundaylunch

My grandparents used to have real candles on their Christmas Tree old gimmer here They were lit on Christmas Eve and apparently it was a real labour of love to ensure all the candle holders were upright, but it looked just magical. The tree was placed in an alcove by their French windows and the candles were reflected in the glass on three sides.

chanie44 · 07/10/2017 07:45

Funnily enough a couple of months ago, I started to think about ways to wrap gifts. Thanks for the inspiration everyone.

Bornfreebutinbiscuits · 07/10/2017 11:02

Extensive trawling for labels, the sticker site has some good ones that can be personalised. Not quite as nice as ops but not bad.

LostMyRubySlippers · 07/10/2017 15:05

Loving some of the ideas on this thread thanks.
I have had some elaborate wrapping schemes in the past, but less so since having children! Used to try having different concept each year for gift tags, so have used baubles with names written on in gold/ silver glass painting outliner, made gingerbread with names iced on, made felt decorations with initials embroidered on...
Last year did all the children’s gifts in red & white & tied on a candy cane with the tags which was easy but a nice extra touch.
Think I might try the reindeer idea this year using brown paper. Have already got paper for adults that I bought in the sales, but may try adding some greenery/ pine cones....

LostMyRubySlippers · 07/10/2017 15:07

As a PP said I usually run out of steam —and materials— by the time I get to DH & my own DC, so will try to make more effort for them this year!

BuzzKillington · 07/10/2017 15:19

We are VERY competitive wrappers in our family.

Last year I wrapped all the gifts in brown paper and used gorgeous Christmas fabric ribbon from John Lewis haberdashery in reds and whites, secured with their big christmas buttons.

We also did the mini cracker idea, as mentioned upthread.

KeiraH · 07/10/2017 15:36

I thought my wrapping was good but now I feel inadequate 😂 That’s amazing OP and so creative. I need to up my game this year 🎄

I did brown paper and covered it with DSs fingerprint as rudolphs face then googly eyes and a red diamonte for his nose. Got quite stressful so didn't repeat it last year! Thisthread is amazing. This year I'm thinking of white paper for a change. Does anyone know the best place to buy it? I'd love to see photos of ones done with chalk paper if anyone has pictures.

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 08/10/2017 09:07

I did this a few years back. Am going to attempt to do penguins this year.

Really liking the reindeer wrapping. Might do it for the kids this year. Never even thought of it.
