What do you like to see on a Christmas Card??

Hello - and help!

I have a teeny business (if you could call it that!) doing illustrations and cards.
I'm just getting myself organised to get a few Christmas card designs done, and I'm not feeling inspired 😕
What designs are you drawn too?
I mainly do animals, landscapes. I have a stag and a penguin from last year, and a robin and a polar bear that are maybes!

I am open to ideas.....hit me!!

That card reminds me of a jigsaw I had as a child @sinfadream. It's lovely.

You've asked the wrong question. Confused

What would make me buy your considerably more expensive, hand made (or limited print) Christmas cards over other cards?

Especially charity cards?

Or not use the expensive (but discounted to 75% off) cards I had already picked up in January sales?

If you're selling something unique I can't find in 10 other shops down the road -- something local

Robins,robins and more robins!

AliceLutherNeeMorgan · 06/09/2017 10:06

Yes, I agree - your robin would be pepped up with some holly as the green would work well. But it's really excellent!

The local thing could be brought in with a recognisable church spire or bridge or other village landmark in the background. As a pp says that what people pay a premium for. It would sell well round here, I'm sure

Rabbit wearing a scarf, robin wearing a Santa hat, squirrel in boots. I like quirky.

OR

Glitter

Rural landscapes are my favourites by far. Snowy fields, hedgerows, some animals - people have mentioned pheasants, foxes etc. Maybe a church spire in the distance for the nod to religion.

And if you could do a particular local scene you'd be onto a winner.

(Also: I now only ever buy cards that say 'Season's Greetings' in them, rather than 'Merry Christmas'. Not because of the religious factor, but because after a (very religious) friend of mine was widowed she said she hated getting cards that said that from people who knew perfectly well she wouldn't have a merry Christmas...)

Thank you so much for all the feedback - much appreciated!
Our local hills are a bit of a landmark, so I'm thinking Santa's sleigh going over them against a starry sky could be lovely! And our village in a snowy scene, and possibly a gorgeous decorated baubles with a nativity scene on it.
I've managed to get this wee hare done, which I'm quite please with.
Got my festive mojo on now!

I really like traditional cards with snowy village scenes, Victorian Christmas street scenes, or 'winter' animals in snow covered scenes too x

Threenme · 07/09/2017 22:11

Op they are fab do you design one then print packs surely they can't all be individually drawn!

TheDoodleDotLady · 08/09/2017 13:23

Thanks @threenme. Yep, I get them printed up to sell.

I really like the old fashioned traditional style Christmas cards, a nod to the Christian side of Christmas is good too.

christmasunicorn · 08/09/2017 16:50

I like glitter. The sparklier the better! And plants but modern not twee. Christmas trees, wreaths, holly. Or Christmas lights and baubles.

gingerbreadmam · 08/09/2017 16:54

Merry Christmas not Happy Christmas. A nice old fashioned father christmas. A snowy christmassy scene. Gingerbread men. I really love traditional stuff. Lots of holly, wreaths, that kind of thing.

Toyboysrus · 10/09/2017 17:53

I love cheesy Olde Worlde snowy village scenes at night time with the church and cottages all lit up inside. There is an artist, Thomas Kincaid (sp?) who paints the sort of thing I'm trying to explain.

MusicToMyEars800 · 11/09/2017 14:06

I love these sorts of images.

Anything really Christmassy - snow, robins, holly, cosy Christmassy interior with dog and cat curled up asleep by the fire, a snowy church with a bit of corny old glitter...
What I will never buy is cards saying 'Season's Greetings'.
It's got to be Happy/Merry Christmas. (Unless to the odd neighbour who I know is Hindu/Muslim etc., in which case it's something with e.g. snowdrops and SG or Happy New Year.)
I really hate the American 'Happy Holidays!'

woollytights · 14/09/2017 11:19

What beautiful drawings!

TheDoodleDotLady · 28/09/2017 20:24

Thank you again so much to everyone who took the time to give me feedback!
I have been busy 😊 a couple more designs under my belt. A nativity scene and our local hills. Thanks again for the help!
