What do you like to see on a Christmas Card??

Hello - and help!

I have a teeny business (if you could call it that!) doing illustrations and cards.
I'm just getting myself organised to get a few Christmas card designs done, and I'm not feeling inspired 😕
What designs are you drawn too?
I mainly do animals, landscapes. I have a stag and a penguin from last year, and a robin and a polar bear that are maybes!

I am open to ideas.....hit me!!

I'm another one that likes a whiff of religion in there. Not necessarily a full-blown crib scene, but a Bethlehem skyline is good, or I do like an angel with a trumpet.

Bluntness100 · 05/09/2017 19:50

I agree, somethjng local would be a big seller, local land mark and in the snow but nostalgic, so an old image not something bright and modern.

Past that I like quite amusing ones, but expensive lelegant amusing images not tacky.

Or, as I'm quite rural, stags, hares, pheasants,

CocoLoco87 · 05/09/2017 19:50

I'd like to see nutcrackers! I'm a bit obsessed with them

CocoLoco87 · 05/09/2017 19:52

Also, I was reading The Jolly Christmas Postman to DC yesterday (just to get in the mood!) and the illustration of the elves and Santa in his workshop is lovely. It would look great on a Christmas card

BikeRunSki · 05/09/2017 19:52

Doves

Or the more Midwinter/Pagan/Yule stuff - logs, snow, frozen things. I realise that Christmas is as likely to be warm and sunny these days!

TheDoodleDotLady · 05/09/2017 19:53

I tend to stick to the classy side (or so I like to think!) I have avoided glitter this far, anyway 😊
I do just sell locally - Christmas fairs etc, so I like the idea of some local scenes.

I have not gone down the religious route so far, but dh has suggested an Angel, which I am considering 🤔
Thank you so much for all your ideas!!

Such great suggestions. Have no fresh ideas to offer, but must say all this talk of robins in the snow has got me longing for the festivities!

The traditional suggestions are lovely. A proper Christmas and a proper winter. Lovely.

Teddy1970 · 05/09/2017 19:56

I'm quite traditional, I like snowy scenes with perhaps a Victorian coach on it somewhere. I also saw a lovely one in Paperchase last year, it was a drawing of a Georgian house set in acres of snowy land with deer in the fields, it was lovely..I also like religious cards.

TheColonelAdoresPuffins · 05/09/2017 19:58

I love a robin on a christmas card. I also like frosty berries

SouthWestmom · 05/09/2017 19:59

I like simple line drawings representing something biblical /nativity.

Maverick66 · 05/09/2017 20:00

I agree with others. I like at least a nod to the nativity.

WindyWednesday · 05/09/2017 20:03

Glitter and a bit of nativity.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/09/2017 20:05

I've just done one with the back of the nativity stable and a star in the sky and my dog approaching the nativity with a wrapped present in its mouth.

Now people LOVE dogs so I'm going to suggest you do all the most popular ones - pugs/labs/springers/schnauzer/Staffies/French bulldogs as the present carriers

Mines is a Scottish Terrier

FaFoutis · 05/09/2017 20:06

Something a bit pagan and some glitter.

Fink · 05/09/2017 20:08

I only buy Christmas cards with an at least semi-religious picture. You can still get quite arty and innovative within that.

Oncewaswho · 05/09/2017 20:09

I also like at least a nod to the Nativity. I like Robins too. I prefer side opening (portrait) to bottom opening which tend to slide open when you stand them up. I don't like anything stuck on which makes them hard to recycle/too thick for a normal stamp.

Ttbb · 05/09/2017 20:12

I like robins. Had a very nice stain glass naturally city scene from a friend a few years ago, snow covered trees/villages. Glitter.

MrsHathaway · 05/09/2017 20:13

Definitely robins. Preferably with snow and/or holly.

Three Kings or Virgin and Child.

Bethlehem skyline with star.

No fucking teddy bears.

kingfishergreen · 05/09/2017 20:14

I'm all about snowy village scenes.

TheDoodleDotLady · 05/09/2017 20:18

This was my Robin I came up with a few days ago - quite pleased with it so far, but it doesn't feel very Christmassy yet - needs cheered up a wee bit!

Interesting how many people would lean towards a nativity scene - it's not something I had considered.

Your robin is LOVELY Smile

LondonLassInTheCountry · 05/09/2017 20:24

Snowy little village

Children looking in at a beautiful toy shop, all decorated for christmas, with snow on the ground.

A lovely santa

A gorgeous big colourful christmas tree with loads of presents underneath

NuffSaidSam · 05/09/2017 20:24

I like a Victorian style indoor or outdoor scene. I like it to look warm and cosy.... tree, fireplace, maybe some food/kids/an old style Santa etc.

The only type I really don't like is a photo of an animal in a Santa hat.

HeyManIJustWantSomeMuesli · 05/09/2017 20:25

I love the robin!
Woodland creatures, snowy scenes, 12 days of Christmas are all good.

drspouse · 05/09/2017 20:30

I prefer a card that gives at least a nod to the nativity.

Me to OR a card that sends a seasonally appropriate message. I quite often buy dove cards to send to non-celebrating friends and write "Peace" rather than something Christmassy.

Or something like a church choir, that shows the religious celebration side, or a stained glass window with something Christmassy in.

How can you not consider a nativity scene for a Christmas card? I mean I get that people don't all want one, but to not even think that people would want one??!
