Christmas Stockings; who do you do them for?

Do you do them for everyone in your house, and if yes, do you do one for yourself?!

Now DS is a but bigger (almost 3 at Christmas) I want to start having stockings in bedrooms, but ideally for everyone (inc DH) . So should I do one for myself too?!

I'm thinking yes, I should - don't want to ruin the illusion for DS and if I don't, no other bugger will do one for me

We do them for everyone who is staying with us on Christmas Eve (usually between 5 and 9 adults and one child). Everyone puts one gift in each stocking, so it's almost a secret Santa. It's good fun sneaking around trying not to get caught filling the stockings.

Everyone who is staying for Christmas but never in rooms. They have to be by the chimney and then Father Christmas puts them outside bedrooms at some point in the night.
My husband does mine but needs a little direction from the children to avoid him just filling it with marmite, hotel soap and last weeks newspaper.
Children get more than adults- even adult children.
Proper adults get a magazine, Montesumas chocolate, a miniature bottle of fizz or similar, some gloves or scarf, a book, some smellies, things like pretty tissue or notelets, bridge scorecards, tights or sox. Nothing expensive but not complete trash.
Children get more but it's not their proper presents. They get scent, boots or shoes, makeup, a piece of jewellery or cufflinks, underwear, tights/socks, books, stationary, DVDs, hobby related items like a scrum cap or new pointes. Plus silly things like moustaches or balloon modelling. Chocolate and sweets.

Only our children get them in our house. They are still young and believe in Father Christmas, but I imagine they'll get them until they move out!

DS gets one. Choosing his stocking fillers is my favourite part of Christmas shopping.
Usually involves sweets, stationery, smellies etc.

All four of us get them, DH and I do each others and I do the DCs (we both buy for them but I'm the one who sneaks into bedrooms to fill them). Always on the foot of the bed in our house, you can't beat the excitement of waking up to feel a full stocking by your feet. Sweets, small toys, small useful things, our stockings are quite small.

Only for the children at the moment. But once they get bigger and no longer believe, I'm going to start having a stocking for me and DH which they will get to fill.

One for each child from dh and me, and more recently one for me and dh from the children. Have never done Santa but the teens still love their stockings and when I said I thought they'd grown out of them there was rebellion which ended with me saying that they should make ones for us. Seems to work well. Stocking gifts are fun :) I'd not make one for myself though, can't you and your dh do ones for each other?

Everyone gets a stocking in our house, even DDog. I shop for our DD's, DDog (he just gets a festive treat) and DH. DH shops for mine. Stockings are hung on the fireplace, not in rooms as DD1 is a very light sleeper.

DH is a lovely chap, who is very thoughtful, but hates shopping so I fear if I leave him to do mine he will forget! Perhaps I'll do them all this year (set the tone and all!) and then next year he can have a bash.

This year, we are expecting DS2 at the end of November, so it's very much a Christmas about DS1, so I'm hoping to make it even more magical - whilst having a newborn - as I can for him.
He loves Christmas already (and is currently watching the Father Christmas!) and at least once a week he gets me to read him 'Lucy and Tom' Christmas book (which has stockings in their bedrooms - so I think this is what he thinks happens!) .

I think this is the year that sets up what we do for Christmas as previously we have just been able to 'wing' it , knowing he won't remember! Now he remembers EVERYTHING!!

Kids get them and we still pretend they are from FC. We do them for each other and the kids help because FC only does children.

We only do them for the kids. Dh has enough of a headache choosing my Xmas gift so I think a stocking would be a step too far.

I've got so many subjects hidden that about half my Most Active are Christmas threads at the moment, definitely an increase in them over the last week or so

We all get one. Dh and I don't buy tree presents for each other, we only do stockings as we see Christmas is more about the dc then us. And yes we all open them in rooms. The purpose of the stockings are really to let the dc know that Santa has been before they are allowed to rush downstairs and see the tree. If they wake at some ungodly hour they are meant to quietly open them in their room without waking anyone else up. Of course this doesn't work at all as we have 3 sharing a room and they wake each other up then wake us up and open them on our bed instead. Still it gives us a chance to wake up fully before the utter chaos begins

@Thetruthfairy yep - massively planning ahead this year - DS2 due in November so trying to make sure everything is at least organised in my head 😆

We all get one. It's got an orange, £1, chocolate coins and some small gifts. Oh and the all important chocolate santa sticking out the top. I do buy a couple of extra bits for dds one because she's 2 and her presents tend to be bigger.
I leave ours in living room.

You've reminded me to hunt out some bigger stockings for this year as I don't think the ones we have are quite up to the job!

So I now have 2 ordered from eBay which are almost 2ft long! 😁🎅

Proper stockings for ds and Dd and then a couple of things in a sock for me, dh and my mum if we're spending cmas with her - like can of deodorant, tube of sweets type thing.

Dh and I do one for each other, but at usually put a limit on the cost.
The kids are completely spoiled, it's one of the best parts of Christmas for me.

Shown hubby the thread - and I think he may now be even more excited than i am.

He is insisting he does one for me (if that actually materialises will be another matter due to how busy he will be in the run up to Christmas!) but wants us all to have one, even the new baby (due end of November)

So , I'll be keeping an eye out for items for said stockings from now on!

Anyone in the house on Christmas Eve gets one. If the person doing yours is unreliable then agree ground rules (e.g. Everyone will have a satsuma, a pair of socks, a book) but anything else goes in addition (we agree a stocking budget each year for how much we spend on each other).
