Christmas Stockings; who do you do them for?

tootsieglitterballs · 03/08/2017 23:18

Do you do them for everyone in your house, and if yes, do you do one for yourself?!

Now DS is a but bigger (almost 3 at Christmas) I want to start having stockings in bedrooms, but ideally for everyone (inc DH) . So should I do one for myself too?!

I'm thinking yes, I should - don't want to ruin the illusion for DS and if I don't, no other bugger will do one for me

We all have one I usually give dh a list for guidance I usually theme dhs stocking each year

Dd has her stocking in her room that's got small presents in and the obligatory Disney teddy sticking out of the top

This year for the first time there will be a stocking for dd and dn at mils house fr Xmas dinner again themed - I've nearly done those though

My husband does mine. I do my husband's and boys. We're staying with my mum this Christmas so I'm going to do her one too! Very excited! I might look for a personalised stocking for her.

They work out very expensive!

Me, DH, 3 kids and my Parents. This year we will have a dog too (2 weeks old today)

Maximum cost £10 per stocking as it soon mounts up. Aim for 10 items per stocking.

Oh I'm sure you've heard the wonderful suggestion of buying 2 identical stockings for each person? One for display and one to secretly fill so on Christmas Eve you just switch them over. So no more tiptoeing around trying to fill it whilst not waking the kids with you heart in you mouth. Brilliant idea I heard on here ^
eyes up beautiful hand made and personalised stockings that I won't ever get a duplicate of....^

What??
I rather like wrapping all the little gifts in tissue paper and filling the sticking on Xmas eve!
It's my last Xmas "job" and I do it in front of trashy tv and with a glass of something nice :)

Hmmm, see I think if I was to double up on stockings, I'd end up filling them all 🙈

Everyone gets a stocking in our house. They are delivered, by Father Christmas obviously, to bedroom door handles.
The children get magazines, stickers, pencils, plastic crap from Poundland etc.
DH gets sweets, lottery scratch cards.
I get sweets and chocolate, usually the retro stuff. I think FC has a little help from DH there. And of course it is law that stockings must include a chocolate santa!
My stocking is my original one from childhood.

I only do stockings for the kids. I buy a few stocking filler type pressies for dh but they all go in his Christmas sack with his other pressies. My kids love their stockings!

What a lovely thread! What do people with no children do? I love stockings and I've just moved into a house with a 'real' Father Christmas style fireplace so would hate to miss out Grin

We do them for anyone staying with us.

Nothing big like expensive perfume or anything. More odds and ends e.g. Chocolate coins, CD/DVD, book, hand cream/aftershave balm etc

I really like the idea of stockings, but hate the reality of buying stuff for the sake of it.

I do them for the children, with socks, pants, hair slides, felt tips etc, which they would get/need anyway.

Everyone gets a stocking here. DD is a teenager, she likes face masks, toiletries, American sweets, undies from Urban Outfitters that type of thing. Bits & bobs that catch my eye throughout the year (non perishable).
DH, always has pants & black fine knit socks its a tradition now. A funny book, the Ladybird Husband book was a great success a couple of years back. DD had how the "how to survive a Zombie apocalypse " last year & how a Cat works. Chocolate nuts from Hotel Chocolat & a selection of posh nut based snacks. Golf bits, like thermal golf gloves, he was quite pleased with those.
My two Aunts stay as well, they get miniature bottles of wine & fizz, chocolates, etc. Last year I got them light up wine glasses, which they loved & took with them to the restaurant we went to for Christmas lunch.
Stockings are one of my favourite things to do, I've got a box of things I've already bought for this year. Including a tea towel with a Pug on it for one of my Aunts (pug owner) & porcelain tea for one pot & cup for the other.
Table gifts are good fun too & I also put a scratch card by everyones place setting

@MrsK I'm hoping to do table gifts too this year, but to pop them inside homemade crackers with names on as the place settings!

Toots, I did my table gifts that way one year. Struggled to find things that weren't too big for the tube. I don't think DH would've appreciated a lipstick 😉

Neverlandwendy - before kids me and dh did stockings for each other with chocolate, deodorant, a pen, novelty socks, that type if thing. We still buy each other a few stocking type pressies but tend to just pop them in our Christmas sacks now rather than stockings. We only do stockings for the kids now and they love them even though they are soon to be 16, 13 and 10.

Just the DC.
When they were little they had gift bags in their room (we used to make DS sleep in DD room so they woke up and chattered at 5am trying to open them quietly) And yes we wrapped them - gives extra lie-in time for us.

Last year I bought light up stockings Xmas Grin -, little gifts like earrings, Hawkins Bazaar bits, some sweets.

Think we will be doing them for everyone, in bedrooms and wrapped!

tootsie they have to be wrapped. If it ain't wrapped it ain't a present. I wrap absolutely everything even the tiniest of stocking fillers. It's half the fun! Grin
