Looking for board games to play with dd2 who will be 10 at xmas, nothing that goes on for too long. Games we like and have already are Connect 4, Snakes and Ladders, Frustration, Snap, Top Trumps, Guess Who, Yes/No game. Anything else in the fun but quick category?

Uno
Monopoly Junior - the one with the fun fair dodgems on the front. Virtually the same as the real monopoly but each game only lasts 20 minutes.

Set,
Carcassonne (about 30 mins)
Drafts
Jenga
5 Second rule: great for a family rather than just 2 people.(about 30 mins)
Labyrinth: takes 45 mins or so but is perfect for this age. This and Set kept my youngest going for hours at 10.

Splendor has a playing time of about half an hour, but is really good.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 05/06/2017 14:01

oh, and Rat-a-tat-CAt is nice and quick

Patsy99 · 05/06/2017 14:02

Rummikub (the classic number version).

Games last about 30 mins, suitable about age 8 up. We're all addicted, I really enjoy it myself.

Ooh thankyou loads to check out here.

Oh dear Rightwhine sorry to draw you inGrin I do like to start early as I have 3 dds so need to spread the cost.

We also have Jenga, Pie Face, Headbands and 5 Second Rule but we use them as "family games" and different variants of Monopoly of course

Ticket to ride is great fun and often takes 45mins-1hr. The American map seems to be a faster game than the Europe map

olafisking · 05/06/2017 14:58

Gubs. It's a card game but fun and relatively quick to play (around 20 - 30 mins). Takes a few goes to learn the rules but my 7yo can make a decent go of it.

rightwhine · 05/06/2017 14:58

My twins were given exploding kittens with the add on game for their 10th birthday and they love it.

Patsy99 · 06/06/2017 13:23

I'm going to have to get Exploding Kittens, if only for the name . . .

keeplooking · 06/06/2017 13:29
