GodReastieMerryGentlemen · 08/12/2016 12:27

Nope, I have no idea what a present shitting log is either.

See post 2 for links etc and note the addition of a link with more info to the mn Christmas appeal, a very good cause if you're looking to donate to charity this Christmas time.

shuffle my mum used to use either a bright red single flat sheet or a green one as her table cloth - folded in half they fitted her table well. She had some of that table protector stuff with fleece underneath and a plastic layer on top to protect the table.

She then used either table runners and mats to jolly it up and when I've borrowed it for Christmas holiday meals I bought a long piece of pretty net curtain voile from ikea that had a very pretty pattern on that went over it and looked very pretty and was crazy cheap.
Best of all, they all throw into the washing machine and wash very easily. And if you get the no iron polycotton ones you can throw them in the tumble dryer and the come out not needing ironing - a feat bonus - and as you're not sleeping on the sheets it doesn't matter that they wouldn't be the nicest to sleep on!

margaritasbythesea · 18/12/2016 16:32

Thanks for the link howto. The one its gone through to has a hood though.

GodReastieMerryGentlemen · 18/12/2016 17:54

Shuffle I got a plain red tablecloth from tk maxx (Ralph Lauren brand) a couple of years ago and use it regularly throughout the year as well as Christmas. Washes well and very versatile.

Margarita is it worth looking for a 'twosie' - aka fleece pj's to pull on over ordinary pj's.

There are a few around, albeit under different names. Much more practical than a onsie, especially when you need to go to the loo. And depending on how you feel you can wear one or other or both bits.

Ds2 - 8 - has a top bit from Asda which is crazy soft and snuggly (and sold separately) and is desperate for me to find him bottoms rather than get him a onsie for Xmas...

margaritasbythesea · 18/12/2016 19:18

It's worth a try but my DS is built extremely wide so although he is 6 needs 8 or 9 trousers. Most trousers are pretty uncomfortable for him TBH. A onesie gives him a bit of relief from constant hitching. They did have a good one in ASDA but wanted £10 for delivery to Spain and that is just ridiculous IMO. Although I may just cave...

Just in case anyone's looking for a last minute gift for themselves birchbox are doing a December box with 5 items, 1 of them benefit, plus an extra full size item and a full size ciate eyeliner. It seems a good deal, it's subscription but can be cancelled at any time. There's also a 50% off code, so it's only £7.95 including delivery.
I've got a refer a friend code worth a fiver off to you and 10 to me. Just depends which is worth more to you, the 50% off is probably a better deal.

blackheartedone · 18/12/2016 23:03

Boots have still got some good offers on - No7 City Lights Collection is half price at £39 I think, and a Sleek Make Up Bundle £25 instead of £45

RJnomore1 · 18/12/2016 23:28

Thanks youcant I've just ordered me did a birch box.

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 19/12/2016 02:01

Rj you she deserves it.
I'm not into all these subscription boxes really but this does look good for under 8 quid! I've just got to remember to cancel.
Thanks to those that used my link, I've got £20 to spend, much needed after a crappy few weeks! Just be aware though I think it might be one of those things you're not really meant to share...wouldn't want another hush situation....

ASpiderInTheManger · 19/12/2016 08:55

If anyone missed out on the micronoids in Argos they're back in stock at my local store for £23 which is half price and a lot cheaper than anywhere else at the moment!

Stokey · 19/12/2016 09:51

I haven't finished - last minute panic buying for friends who got presents for my children while I've ignored their's - arrgh.

Any ideas for 2 year old boy & 3 year old girl? cheap preferably. They both have older siblings so have a lot of the basics.

Also Dh still to do and MIL for under a £10 - feel very disorganised

TobleroneBoo · 19/12/2016 09:57

Blows Horn
Mumsnettersssssss!

I need something for my table. I need either a nice runner & placemats, or a nice tablecloth.

My Criteria is

  1. must not break the bank
  2. must be somewhere online that can deliver before xmas
  3. preferably cream / gold etc
  4. must not break the bank - ha ha!

Any ideas? Feel like I have looked everywhere!

ChoccyJules · 19/12/2016 10:02

I only have DH left and that's because he wants gaming headphones so will probably have to get his own. I have to get him a few bits to open on the day but not panicking yet.
Stokey what kind of thing does MIL like? There's a website in the OP list (HappyBeadsUK) which does silver-plated bookmarks, wine-glass charms and jewellery and has last posting today....don't ask me how I know this.

SymphonyofShadows · 19/12/2016 10:14

I'm done apart from some food shopping. I'm waiting for the Next VIP sale text now as I'm after clothes for DS's (18 & 10) including a new winter coat for DS2 and next year's cards and decorations

DP tried to order the Doc Martens I've been after yesterday and they are sold out in every size. Someone on ebay is selling a pair for £350 Xmas Sad

Theonlyoneiknow · 19/12/2016 10:38

Was in Tesco yesterday, picked up Snuggles the little live pet dog for £16 (!) Was reduced to £23 then 1/3 off all toys came off. Also great deals on Transformers and Barbies (picked up few barbies for £1.75 each!

drspouse · 19/12/2016 10:42

Gah. And double gah. I had put DS only real request in my basket but hadn't actually checked out.

Have now bought it and estimated deliver 23rd so crossing my fingers very firmly.

Symphony my DH has fallen into the trap of assuming things for me won't sell out, before (CK slippers I seem to remember). Silly DH.

PiePieChickenPie · 19/12/2016 11:26

Thinking about how to wrap/present a bike on Christmas morning. String or ribbon leading to the bike? Tinsel? Also the bike isn't orange as requested, (too late) it's black and green. Orange ribbon or bow maybe? Ah, I don't know just thinking out loud really, any ideas?

Shouldn't post without a bargain or offer of some kind should I! H&M free standard delivery atm, think it's until tomorrow or Wednesday.

HungryHorace · 19/12/2016 11:35

Ah, yes, the Next VIP sale. I'd better get a slot again this time! I'm sure I've normally had the email by now though. :-/

Do we reckon it's Weds or Thurs this time?

frauleinsallybowles · 19/12/2016 11:41

ordered one of those birtch boxes looks a good wee treat after all the shopping

ChoccyJules · 19/12/2016 11:43

Pie In that circumstance I'd avoid orange ribbon so as not to draw the mind to it....but you know the recipient best!

snowgirl1 · 19/12/2016 11:50

Thanks to whoever posted the Tesco's sharpies on sale - I've bought a couple. One for DD for Xmas or birthday and bought the other thinking it might do as part of a birthday present. Does anyone have any suggestions on what else I could put with the sharpie pack for a 5th birthday present?

drspouse · 19/12/2016 11:55

Ooh just ordered some Sugru for DH - code sugrulovesdoers for 10% off.
