Loved it!

OP posts:
IAmAmy · 12/11/2016 10:59

The little boy writes to her as he's so caring despite being tormented by his horrible, materialistic sister. He knows "Mrs Claus" will be good at picking out shoes but of course she has to hide that she's not being a good, stay at home wife like she should be from her successful husband.

Soubriquet · 12/11/2016 11:01

You really are over thinking it Amy

Santa just delivers the toys

Everyone knows the elves and Mrs Claus really run the operation

gruffaloshmuffalo · 12/11/2016 11:02

I liked it. I prefer the Aldi one though

CaroleService · 12/11/2016 11:02

I thought the boy was (accidentally/thoughtlessly) terrorising his sister tbh

IAmAmy · 12/11/2016 11:06

It's not overthinking Soubriquet, those were my first impressions. I think it's a regressive and sexist ad.

lornathewizzard · 12/11/2016 11:06

For those complaining it's middle class - it is M+S, one of the most middle class places on earth.

Merrylegs · 12/11/2016 11:07

It is middle class and yes, sexism point is valid but on the other hand, Mrs Claus is definitely the cooler Claus with her high tech gadgets and helicopter. But mostly v pleased to see the marvellous Janet McTeer. I have admired her since Precious Bane. She should be in More Stuff.

CeriBerry · 12/11/2016 11:07

I don't think you're overthinking it IAmAmy
I want to like it because it made me chuckle and the brother and sister hug made me go aaaah. But the message isn't great for women, at all.

IAmAmy · 12/11/2016 11:11

Thank you CeriBerry. I really dislike it. Being a 16 year old with two younger brothers is angered me even more at the message it's sending all of us.

alafolie29 · 12/11/2016 11:14

Exactly. I was that girl with 2 silly but cute younger brothers and it's miserable.

Auntpodder · 12/11/2016 11:14

It's not just a M&S Christmas, it's an Islington M&S Christmas... www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/marks-spencer-christmas-ad-starts-8575232

Greenfingeredfun · 12/11/2016 11:27

You whingy lot must have very miserable lives getting so het up about every little thing!! Do you look for things to moan about??! Good grief.. 'It's only a commercial'
Here.. have my very first Biscuit

IAmAmy · 12/11/2016 11:31

I have a great life thanks. I don't see how pointing out blatant sexism in an advert means I must have a miserable life. It's not "only" a commercial when it's probably already been viewed hundreds of thousands of times, is trending across social media and is hammering home these outdated messages in peoples' minds.

Greenfingeredfun · 12/11/2016 11:37

You do realise it's not real??! It's tongue in cheek.. it's meant to be a bit of fun. Some people just like to suck the joy out of everything. You appeared to be one of those suckers. But I'm relieved to hear you have a great life, Mrs Claus seems quite happy with her lot too, so please don't worry so much.

MooPointCowsOpinion · 12/11/2016 11:42

Amy yes calm down dear it's only sexism Hmm

IAmAmy · 12/11/2016 11:47

It's not real? Did I dream seeing it then and it's not going to be all over the place for the next month and a half? You appear to be one of those people who shout down women and girls who point out sexism with the tired old "you're joyless" line.

Costacoffeeplease · 12/11/2016 11:54

It's not fun though, it's shit, just a shame it will almost impossible to avoid it for the next 5 or 6 weeks

I don't get the whole JL/M&S/whatever Christmas ad excitement. I don't think I can remember any from previous years. They may as well just shout 'come on, wallets and purses out, buy some more crap' at least that would be honest

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 12/11/2016 11:56

Well this escalated....

Greenfingeredfun · 12/11/2016 11:59

Hmmm nope! Never felt the need to do it before! You're just being a bit silly about this.. I hope you've reported it seeing as you feel so strongly? I just can't get worked up about such nonsense Smile

If there's an equivalent of the ASA for shit sexist ads then I'll report it. I'm not asking you to get worked up about anything, I'm posting what I think of it. I don't think it's silly to point out sexism and the message this reinforces.

Ineedmorelemonpledge · 12/11/2016 12:03

Can someone link the Aldi one?

CeriBerry · 12/11/2016 12:05

I don't like the Aldi one either. But that's not for sexism reasons. It's just because my brain can't compute why you'd have a full cooked Christmas dinner, complete with flaming pudding, laid out the night before Grin

Greenfingeredfun · 12/11/2016 12:07

And I'm just disagreeing with you. The ASA are the very people you report such things to.. I hope they take you more seriously then I do!

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 12/11/2016 12:07

Or Ceri How does a carrot talk and move Shock Grin
