Loved it!

It's good, much better than the JL one. I was in JL yesterday and all the Buster stuff wasn't exactly flying off the shelves... I don't think they got it right this year at all.

OpheIiaBaIIs · 12/11/2016 08:34

They never, ever chose a northern child or a Welsh one or a Scottish one

Fair point, but it's a Christmas ad, even I can't get too het up about underrepresentation of Welsh/Scottish children in Christmas ads! And yes, it is MC, but so is M&S.

Why not just enjoy it for what it is?!

OpheIiaBaIIs · 12/11/2016 08:35

I could apply radical feminist theory to pull it apart very easily but I think I will let this one slide

I loved it! Definitely my favourite this year by far.

rhuhbarb4 · 12/11/2016 08:58

Just watched it. Thanks for the link. It is so much better than jon Lewis and it actually made me cry! Well done m&s.

OddBoots · 12/11/2016 08:58

Oh dear, this one just made me cry, well, I think it is more all the stuff going on in the world but this was the trigger anyway. My 17yo son looked at me like I am a bit crazy.

FreddoBaggyMac · 12/11/2016 09:03

Love it. As good as John Lewis Monty the penguin imo... beats this year's John Lewis by miles. Love it!!!!

FreddoBaggyMac · 12/11/2016 09:04

Have just bought the red trainers for dd!

Dfg15 · 12/11/2016 09:04

Love it! Made me cry too

Crystal15 · 12/11/2016 09:11

Glad I wasn't the only one to cry! Felt crazy with pregnancy hormones lol

OpheIiaBaIIs · 12/11/2016 09:27

DD is desperate for the red trainers but is 19 with size 8 feet 😊

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 12/11/2016 09:36

Oh my goodness I'm sobbing Sad

I have lots of siblings and we all fought like cat and dog when we were small, but we loved each other so much. And still do.

It's a bit of a mission of mine to make sure my children are nice to each other and thoughtful.

MooPointCowsOpinion · 12/11/2016 09:57

I didn't like it, because as pp said Mrs Claus hid her involvement from her husband. Not particularly modern. They were so middle class too.

I liked the brother-sister part, but again is fed into a stereotype that boys can't show affection.

JL had a black family. The dreaded trampoline which people think is so working class. Lots of lovely British wildlife and a bit of comedy. It felt much more inclusive to me.

ToastMakesMeHappy · 12/11/2016 09:58

Love it, made me cry.

starrynight19 · 12/11/2016 10:12

Loved it think that's in the running for the best Christmas ad . Can definitely relate to the squabbling siblings.

Costacoffeeplease · 12/11/2016 10:20

It left me completely cold - Mrs Claus has to pretend to be a good little wife? Fuck that for a laugh

IAmAmy · 12/11/2016 10:27

I dislike it immensely. Firstly "Mrs Claus" once again normalising girls/women changing surnames upon marriage, though I understand it's a Christmas ad so needs to clearly identify the character. Then the typical "angry" teenage girl who's terrorising her poor brother, generally snapping at him. The loving boy, of course, who makes the gesture and shows care which isn't reciprocated - the girl only becomes happy when she gets a present (suggesting materialistic, her love can be bought). The boy needs no gift and is altruistic. Then "Mrs Claus" feeling she has to pretend to have done nothing while her husband has been out working leaving her at home, feeding into women feeling the need to be overly modest, not proud of our achievements.

I actually love Christmas so am no "Mrs Scrooge" but that's what I got from this ad.

BearPear · 12/11/2016 10:32

I thought she was a bit smug. The JL one made me really laugh, but I enjoy things that are a bit daft Smile

alafolie29 · 12/11/2016 10:36

Hated it. JL so much better.

The little boy behaves terribly and is made out to be lovely. 'Angry' older sister - I would be pretty cross if someone did any of those things to me tbh.

IAmAmy · 12/11/2016 10:51

That's also true, the boy basically does what he wants but is presented as loving and caring, constantly tormented by his angry older sister who they want us to see as hysterical and in the wrong. Such tired and outdated sexism.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 12/11/2016 10:53

Such tired and outdated sexism.

If you are going to look at it that deeply you could say the same about the JL one where it is the dad who is outside in the cold and snow building the trampoline.

IAmAmy · 12/11/2016 10:56

I've not seen the John Lewis one so couldn't say. This ad is entirely sexist. I hate it so much I might smash the TV if it comes on.

CeriBerry · 12/11/2016 10:56

I didn't really get it? Does the little boy write to her because she's a woman so she'll be good at picking out shoes? Or are we to believe that lots of little children write to her but she hides all this involvement from her husband?

OlennasWimple · 12/11/2016 10:56

I want Mrs Claus' cheekbones

IAmAmy · 12/11/2016 10:57

Also it's not looking at it deeply - it's so clear.
