What do your 9/10 year old want?

Dancergirl · 19/10/2016 13:53

Dd3 is 9.5 (10 in February). This is what's on her Christmas list:

ipod
Maddie clothes (??)
Superstar trainers
Black leather jacket
Puppy !?

We've already discounted we're not getting a dog Grin

Older two dds have said that her list looks very teenager-ish and I am inclined to agree. She obviously wants to be like her sisters but when they were 9/10 they were still very much into toys.

What are you buying your similarly aged girls? Are they all really so grown up these days?

DD is 9 next week so it's super tricky Confused

She's asked for

dressing table (the 2 shelf Pinterest/ikea one)
Jacqueline Wilson books
Lush bath bombs
Clothes
Converse

She's said no toys this year and she can't think of anything else so just get her what I can Hmm

VinoTime · 20/10/2016 23:42

DD (9.5) still plays with her toys. Loves her dolls and teddies in particular. She's got a keyboard that she enjoys tinkling away on and drawers full of arts and crafts shit, so we will not be adding anymore to that pile!

So far I've bought her:

A mermaid tail blanket
Nerf Rebelle bow
Lego Friends Heartlake Riding Club
Book box sets (Enid Blyton, Shakespeare, Dork Diaries )
3D virtual reality headset
K'Nex set
Laser Pegs Rocket
National Geographic book on space
Worry Monster
Make up organiser that I'll fill with cheap branded bits from Poundland
Pony Club Lottie doll
A HUGE unicorn cuddly toy
Lots of stocking filler crap.

Tbh, she's probably just about done. She had mentioned a telescope but I've got one in the garage that she can use. She's desperate for a pink iPod Nano so I'll get her one as her 'big' gift. I'd like to get her the Harry Potter Trivial Pursuit game and that should be her. Haven't paid full price for anything and if I've spent over £150 on the above I'll be amazed - bargain hunted like a nutter this year! I'm well under budget Grin

ifink · 21/10/2016 14:44

ohh where is the huge cuddly unicorn from VinoTime...my DD wants one so badly!!???

scrambledegz · 21/10/2016 22:09

Have a nearly 8 yr old dd who may get an iPod and nearly 10 yr old Ds who has asked for some fancy racing game for play station that he shares with big brother.......for previous poster the Dss got lego dimensions and last years version of Skylanders...,a racing version and it was played for a few weeks and not touched since jan despite lots of prompting....also with both these games you have to add on expansion packs ££££

pugsake · 21/10/2016 22:13

Anyone wanting make-up boots have the number 17 collection on for £20 on its star gift.

DD is ten and was most disappointed I won't buy her mac and urban decay so we are compromising. It seems good value.

Libby34 · 21/10/2016 22:14

My niece has just turned 9 and for her birthday her mum got her a phone Confused but she still loves Disney princesses and shopkins etc. My gifts to her was a frozen phone case, a friendship bracelet craft set, some kid safe sound levels headphones and a niece necklace. I usually find shopping for her easy but it was difficult this year.

Just to let you know OP Maddie clothes will be Maddie Zeigler (from dance moms and star of Sia's music videos) and her sister Mackenzie's clothing line

beardedladydragon · 22/10/2016 23:56

My dd is 9 at the end of November. She has never played with toys and has always been tricky to buy for. On her list this year is:
Fuji instamax camera
Robot dog (no chance as looks crap)
Clothes
Nike flyknit trainers
Wooden art set
Have also bought her an aquarellum set, HP trivial pursuits, new David Walliams, slippers, soapand glory set

altik · 23/10/2016 08:35

I'm really struggling with my DD2. She'll be ten before Christmas, so I have both birthday and Christmas to think about.

Like others, she has now outgrown toys. She does still play - but it's mostly making up dance / gymnastics routines, and not with stuff. She also likes top model, but that's it.

All she has asked for is dork diaries. I will get her the box set (£10 from book people) but other than that I'm stumped.

Inheriting all her older sisters toys / clothes/ books doesn't help either!!

McMumface · 23/10/2016 08:48

My ds (8.5)wrote her list last night-she wants Shopkins stuff, craft things,x box 360 kinect(with Just Dance!),a specific Hatchimal Confusedand some clothes. The x box I will buy second hand....am just thankful she didn't ask for an x box one to be honest as that would be the budget and more gone in one fell swoop. To be honest, this is the smallest list she has written for a few years,so am quite pleased Grin

Oh2beatsea · 23/10/2016 09:00

My 8 yr old dd has a similar list. The tricky thing is, she turns 9 in January. She wants a new I pod because the current one she has keeps running out of battery quick - it was 2 nd hand. Trouble is they are so expensive new!! That kindle fire looks good cost wise but I don't know if I want to do the tablet thing at this age yet!! She doesn't play with dolls but likes crafting/ writing / drawing but we are over run with all that stuff!! It's tricky!!
For her birthday, I'm getting her "experiences" so cinema tickets, milkshake voucher, an art class session etc so it limits how much tat comes into the house!!

popmimiboo · 23/10/2016 13:48

My 10 year is writing hers now -adidas superstars, fujifilm instax camera, fimo set, gymnastics shorts, ice watch...

Thank god she's not heard of Maddie clothes -she LOVES Maddie and Makenzie Ziegler!!

SpookyMooky · 23/10/2016 22:24

DD is not into toys, hasn't been for ages. She may ask for a Designer Friends clothes but she won't play with them. Last year, turning 9, she asked for proper winter boots. This year she's asked for a proper sewing box and project.

She does already have an ipod, cd player with ipod dock and a kindle fire, and all 3 are well used and not too grown up IMO. She had the ipod and dock at 8 and kindle fire (£35) at 9.

Volatile · 23/10/2016 22:29

Just Heelies.
And books.

DubiousCredentials · 23/10/2016 22:44

Shock Sad at 9/10 yr olds wanting/having makeup.

Yawnyawnallday · 24/10/2016 11:58

My dd (9) (with MIL's help) buys cheap makeup- mostly nail polish and horrible lipstick- off the local market and experiments. I would rather she did that than make an issue out of it. I wasn't allowed make up until aged 14. I'd prefer an age in the middle of the two but I don't think it is worth a drama

SideOrderofChip · 24/10/2016 12:17

That's similar to dd1 list

Mrsg26 · 24/10/2016 15:01

My daughter hasn't really asked for much, she's 9 and she is no longer interested in Toys or dolls bar the odd thing. All her friends are into designer sports clothing and music so I've had to get her things based on what I think she would like and to keep in with her peers.

I got her some hollister clothes, Nike air max and some sports clothing from Jd sports. I got all of it half price or less so i didn't spend that much.
Toy wise I bought her bunchems (tat that she asked for!) - crayola airbrush marker, milkshake maker, selfie mic and cluedo. I know she will love the selfie mic as she loves signing with her friends and they can edit their videos.
Other things she's pointed to is a unicorn onesie and practically the whole of smiggle or lush (she is obsessed with both shops but uses her pocket money for bath bombs and lip scrubs) so a few lush bath bombs would be well received.

My daughter isn't really into make up or perfume (yet) So I'm thankful for that. Its just a really difficult age now!

Mrsg26 · 24/10/2016 15:04

To those considering Heelies, it took my DD about 6 months to master hers but now she is on her 2nd pair and loves them, I was dubious at first as they are expensive but they were one of her favourite gifts.

Mrsg26 · 24/10/2016 15:07

vino time do you mind me asking where you get the 3D virtual reality headset from? Thanks

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 24/10/2016 15:08

My 10yo dd sounds similar to yours op she has also asked for a puppy Hmm Grin

So far have got her some lego sets as she does still enjoy lego and plays with it a fair bit.
Some crystal mining stuff and geodes, she loves anything to do with crystals.

I may end up getting her a keyboard as am really struggling to think of a main gift and think she would like this.

We have a Smiggle just opening up in our town so no doubt some stuff from there as well and some Primark onesies/ dressing gown/ slippers...

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 24/10/2016 15:10

Where is the best place to buy heelies from?

Heathen4Hire · 24/10/2016 15:13

Anything Marvel or that has unicorns on it. She also likes mythical stuff like fairies, the Green Man, witches, etc. She likes mystery books like Emily Winsnap. She will dabble in science and loves fluffy animals.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 24/10/2016 15:14

crystal mining this was dds favourite gift last Christmas and she spent hours digging the crystals out!!
