What do your 9/10 year old want?

Dd3 is 9.5 (10 in February). This is what's on her Christmas list:

ipod
Maddie clothes (??)
Superstar trainers
Black leather jacket
Puppy !?

We've already discounted we're not getting a dog Grin

Older two dds have said that her list looks very teenager-ish and I am inclined to agree. She obviously wants to be like her sisters but when they were 9/10 they were still very much into toys.

What are you buying your similarly aged girls? Are they all really so grown up these days?

My dd inherited (literally) an iPad and an iPod Touch. We have set it so she can download stuff but needs my permission as account holder. Something to do with Family setting where she has her own iCloud address (to which I have access) and it is linked to my account.

Sgtmajormummy · 19/10/2016 17:19

DD (10) wants the Cursed Child book as she's a huge fan. But having been stung by the recent Pottermore downloads (basically just JKR's background notes on the characters) I don't really want to buy her the script of a play.
I may just cave in to pestering.
Her surprise present will be tickets for a family visit to Harry Potter World when we're next in the UK.

TheHighPriestessOfTinsel · 19/10/2016 17:20

the entire stock of Smiggle and/or Paperchase

Sgtmajormummy · 19/10/2016 17:22

She also loves anything fluffy and cozy, so a ridiculously soft dressing gown is high on the wish list.
And a teddy bear hoody.

Yawnyawnallday · 19/10/2016 17:46

My capable but often reluctant reader dd LOVED the script. I had downloaded to my kindle for a holiday read last summer and she chomped through it. We discussed it being a play and how that differed from a book- using more of your imagination/ dialogue delivery over reading dialogue in a book. Don't rule it out if she's a fan.

Dancergirl · 19/10/2016 17:55

All 3 of my dds have their own copy of Cursed Child! We pre-ordered as they are big fans so cost £10 each. They want to see the play but it's pretty much sold out for now. I do keep checking though.

DD3 (10 in Jan) wants a mobile and a spirograph

Boisderose · 19/10/2016 18:08

10 year old dd wants a fitbit but I think what she really wants is a stopwatch type sports watch.

Boisderose · 19/10/2016 18:09

The cursed child is fab!!

Craftyoldhen · 19/10/2016 18:11

My 9 year old wants a zoomer hedgehog, sylvanian families hedgehogs and anything to do with pokemon.

Oh and a lava lamp, but I'm looking for one that doesn't get hot...

Also looking out for nice onesies.

dancemom · 19/10/2016 18:12

Op Adidas gave 25% off today with code FRIENDS if you are contemplating the superstars?

FuckingHateRats · 19/10/2016 18:19

Our son is 9.5. Asked for Lego City, desperately wants an xbox One and we might acquiesce, but second hand. Books. Going to buy that Bean Boozled game and refills because he loves Jelly Belly.

This age is hard!

justgivemeamo · 19/10/2016 22:10

She had an Xbox last year which she begged for but only occasionally plays with

Allmy oh this is worrying for me to hear its my dd main present and its bloody expensive! May I ask what games you got for her? why doesnt she play with it?

Dancergirl · 19/10/2016 22:57

Thanks dancemom I can't help thinking though that 9 is a bit young for expensive designer trainers! I am probably being an old fogey though!

Ds1 is turning 9 next week and he is getting sports related stuff so it does kind of rule that out for Christmas which is a bit annoying as sport is his main interest.

I think we are going to get him a kids kindle fire from us. Probably Lego, an annual, hot wheels, a dvd, a book set, pjs.

Toffeelatteplease · 20/10/2016 07:50

See Santa has often been for things that mum quite definitely didn't approve of.

Mum could quite definitely be promoting the ridiculousness of brand trainers. But santa might treat DC to them if it was what they really wanted and within Christmas budget.

Fresta · 20/10/2016 07:52

I'd say her list is pretty typical.

Fresta · 20/10/2016 07:56

My dd is a year older and she already has most of those things. Her list includes

jewellery box
earrings
lap-top (which she isn't going to get)
swarovski crystal animal
board games
pyjamas
fluffy slippers
benefit make-up set
perfume

madamginger · 20/10/2016 08:03

DD is 10 next week and we're buying her a kindle for her birthday.
For Christmas she wants a hatchimal Hmm and heelies but she has 2 left feet and I'm worried she'll break a leg!
Also Claire's accessories and smiggle stuff.
She hardly plays with toys anymore, not that she ever really did, she's more craft/arty type stuff than toys.

Boisderose · 20/10/2016 08:09

Dd wants an ipad. Can't afford one but was thinking of a kindle. Bit worried she'll see the size of the box and think it's an ipad!!

Dancergirl · 20/10/2016 09:12

What's a hatchimal??

OP posts:
Dancergirl · 20/10/2016 09:15

Think a Kindle fire might be a good bet for dd. If she's asked for an iPod it will be a nice surprise to have her own tablet that does everything an iPod does and more (and is cheaper).

fairyjasmine · 20/10/2016 10:36

DD will be 10 just before Christmas and still loves playing. She's asked for:

Lego Friends and Elves
Our Generation doll
Hatchimal (urgh)
Swallows & Amazons dvd
Funko Pop figures
Sequin Art

pineappleeyes · 20/10/2016 22:27

dd1 is 10 in January.

Chemistry set
bomber jacket
'grown up' bedding
smiggle stuff
one of the fab lab sets
make up
maybe an experience day

I'm. looking at 3d pens too but not sure on these.

MotherofA · 20/10/2016 22:42

Almost identical to
My 9yo DD list ! Except she already has the leather jacket which she got for her birthday (faux from H&M online ) . I don't know what Maddie clothes are but she wants a puppy and an I pod !
I noticed over a year ago at school non uniform that the kids her age and some younger had leather jackets and some even heeled boots on at non uniform days ! She was the only one in bright clothes and trainers etc . They are growing up so fast now .
