Ok this thread may commence from midnight in honour of Fellatio. I sadly abandoned last years mid run due to pre-eclampsia and early birth of my December baby and therefore fully intend to throw myself fully into this years festivities:

"OK, first of all, I know it's still September by we need to start this thread now because as you all know, having a truly Poncetastic Christmas involves precision planning, strategy, bravery, heroics, and frequently martyrdom. A bit like the war in Afghanistan, only with nicer food and sparkly shoes.

So, if you, like me, actually want to make the next twelve weeks of your life a misery by hand-crafting your cards, finding a huge bucket for Nigella's turkey in brine, pickling pears, shrivelling oranges in a low oven for those rustic au naturel decorations, dragging half a holly bush back from the woods, and just generally being a smug annoying jobsworth ponce, join me on this thread.

Feel free to post photos of previous tree-trimming, cake icing or table centrepiece triumphs, discuss this year's bauble colour themes, debate the merits of Delia versus Gordon, road-test a selection of canapes and cocktails, (all in the line of duty) and link to lovely inspirational photos/craft ideas for a truly Poncetastic Christmas.

Warning: If your idea of a good Christmas involves Pizza, ITV, gravy granules or anything with 'Aunt Bessies' on the packet, this is not the thread for you".

Let's surpass all poncestastic pasts please

Trumpton - how much water do you put in? It said surface of the pebbles but then said if the bulbs were in water they'd rot?

Trumpton · 12/11/2016 12:04

Confusing isn't it !

Just below the level of the bulbs but don't worry if the bases of the bulb touch the water . Just don't drown them !
I have never had any rot yet !

Mummyshortlegz · 12/11/2016 12:20

Thank you Flowers

HollyBollyBooBoo · 12/11/2016 20:35

Sausage rolls done and in the freezer, 6 jars of tomato chutney and 6 shallots in basil and balsamic vinegar done! Lovely afternoon in the kitchen, a rare indulgence!

SushiRocks · 12/11/2016 20:42

Thanks Hairspray. I'll check it out

AmyAmoeba · 12/11/2016 22:51

I'm toying with the idea of making placemats from sheets of Christmas music but I can't decide how to go about it. At first I was thinking of modge-podge-Ing the sheets onto thin plywood (distressing it to look very vintage etc) but I don't think they would be heatproof. The alternative is printing onto fabric which I think I might be able to manage in my printer if I use a4 sticker sheets stuck onto fine white silk. But a4 might be too small and I don't particularly want to kill my printer either.

HairsprayBabe · 12/11/2016 23:44

I made these today, salt dough gingerbread man bunting!

Trumpton have I done it right? Now into the garage? Should the roots be touching water? I'm not sure I've put enough in.

Trumpton · 13/11/2016 17:20

That looks good to me . The roots will search for the water . Xmas Grin

Mummyshortlegz · 13/11/2016 18:47

Thank you! I'm quite excited. And now I have the stuff to do it every year :-)

Trumpton · 14/11/2016 02:25

Garage ( as long as it isn't freezing ) for a while then bring them in and watch them grow like billy-oh .
By the way the bulbs won't like being used again inside . Plant them out next spring .

Trumpton · 14/11/2016 22:22

So today I ordered 30 metres of navy organza to tent the sunroom ceiling
I am hoping it will look like the photo with loads of fairy lights above.
I also plan to hang silver stars on thread from it to create a night effect .
But my main poncer-in-league (DD) has today flown away to a new life in London so it will be me and my staple gun against the world !
She will home for Christmas though so I might save a bit of poncery for her !

That is next level poncing Trumpton
I sent out all the invites for my cocktail bash on Sunday, it's on the 10th and now I am panicking because it is so close and I have so much to do!

cookiefiend · 15/11/2016 20:46

I am soo impressed by the effort going in. Other than Christmas cakes and tea advent calendars I am a bit behind on poncing. Need to finish my felt Christmas tree for the children, but having a birthday party for our soon to be one year old at the weekend. About 25 people- so I am busy poncing for that.

On
Pinterest the popular theme seems to be winter ONEderland for first birthdays so I am running with that but trying to avoid just merging it entirely into Christmas!

MammaGnomes · 19/11/2016 17:10

I'm making hampers for a few people this year and need some savoury ideas and/or recipes please. Everything I have noted down is sweet?!?!

CatsCantFlyFast · 20/11/2016 22:13

Trumpton I've just ordered 32m of white organza for our roof. And a lot of lights

Trumpton · 21/11/2016 03:02

NotWithoutMyMerkin. Ooh luffly. Do come back and post a picture and I will do the same .

CatsCantFlyFast · 21/11/2016 05:56

Will do, provided it turns out close to what is in my head

I'm wanting antique silver effect tea light holders and candelabra for the table this year - has anybody seen any nice ones?

Trumpton · 21/11/2016 07:34

Dunelm ?
Not candelabra but Mercury candle stick .

Ah yes the gap between our minds eye and reality !

CoffeeAndEnnui · 22/11/2016 00:26

Poncemarking.

Bloodybridget · 22/11/2016 17:43

I have finally finished the Spanish style Nativity scene I mentioned about a month ago on this thread (were you all holding your breath?!). Here it is, my magnum opus. Not all my own work, but I did dress all the people.
