I'm staying away from mince pies for now...I'll try to get into November before starting on them! 😂

HairsprayBabe · 04/10/2016 08:01

I'm off carbs and enjoying life atm fingers crossed I won't be quite so chunky in December so I can enjoy them again 😭

InYourHonour · 04/10/2016 08:31

I have an eots page on facebook called Elf Sleeping Bags accessories and Ideas (or something like that!) It's great fun but unfortunately I will be winding it up soon as just too busy with actual work this year.

I bought the Good Homes Ultimate Christmas mag as it's the only one I'very seen for sale in our tiny tesco.

Weather really turned here too, heating on this morning

LaylaDoesAHipToss · 04/10/2016 09:20

Heating on here too. Just back from the school run and a nice roasty-toasty cuppa is calling!☕

Blueisthemagicnumber · 04/10/2016 09:31

I bought the Ideal Homes and Good Homes mags yesterday. The Ideal Home one has a more in depth directory of different websites, so spent time browsing yesterday.

Put heating on at the weekend, but was beautiful and hot here at lunchtime yesterday.

So here is my first time experimenting with spray painting a bauble from shiny gold, to matte navy blue. Note to self; either wear rubber gloves or hang the decorations, as you will ruin your manicure.

TheWoollybacksWife · 04/10/2016 17:20

Lovely transformation Blue

Could you thread a wire hook (straightened out paper clip then bent double) through the wire bit at the top of the bauble and push the ends into a chunk of polystyrene? Then the bauble will be untouched by human hands while spray painting.

I fully appreciate that not everyone else's husband hoards polystyrene. Hmm

Blueisthemagicnumber · 04/10/2016 17:26

Thinking of attaching them to the washing line with strings and pegs, unfortunately there was washing hung up, and I am too impatient to wait Xmas Grin

FireflyGirl · 04/10/2016 20:08

I was in Aldi today and as I walked past the mince pies, there was a pack of cherry bakewell abandoned. Clearly someone didn't read this thread, or they would have known the mince pies were out! They also had chocolate covered stollen Shock

We've not had the heating on yet, but it's been lovely and sunny and the sun shines in the back of the house most of the day, so it's been pretty warm anyway. Bit nippy now, but I'm going to snuggle into my fluffy slippers and blanket.

I bought an EOTS, but DS is only 18 months, so I'm planning that he just brings us a new book to read each day. Think that'll be enough excitement for the Firefly household!

ConstantlyCooking · 04/10/2016 23:11

Countdowners - we are not on top of Christmas planning and prep (shakes head), we have missed the last posting date for Christmas deliveries to "all non-European except USA, Canada, South Africa and the Far and Middle East on 28th Sept and then on 29th Sept the last date for posting to the Far East (except Singapore and Hong Kong).

We are clearly not thinking about Christmas enoughXmas Grin

BiddyPop · 05/10/2016 08:45

I was looking a couple of weeks ago for posting dates and couldn't find them! And the stamps won't be out for another few weeks yet either so how can final posting dates already be past us?!

Today, I need to do a lot of legalese stuff (no, I am NOT a lawyer before you ask!) and then hopefully do some more decluttering at home, as well as play lego with DD (not a request, a demand!). She's currently rebuilding the fire station that FC brought 3 years ago so can't argue with that, and in fairness, despite the chaos that is her lego corner, she seems to have pretty much all the bits for that set so far.

Oh, I did buy a pack of M&S mince pies (gold box, pastry star on top of pies) for comparison purposes. We tested them at teabreak in the office and they were agreed as pretty darn good, not too much pastry, nice amount of fruit, and gently moist rather than dry. We might try out a few more types but I think I've found this year's version! Xmas Grin

LaylaDoesAHipToss · 05/10/2016 12:34

Have been looking at the M&S mince pies just, Biddy!

Decided on getting the M&S biscuits (M,D and W selection) first though. Christmas isn't Christmas without those!

Mummyshortlegz · 05/10/2016 12:47

I was close to starting my stash of treats in Aldi yesterday. Decided I don't trust myself enough!

HairsprayBabe · 05/10/2016 13:21

Stop talking about food guys you are breaking my resolve!

BiddyPop · 05/10/2016 13:33

Oh, poor Hairspray - I am in an office where everyone who travels brings back chocolate for sharing, and a new sweets fiend joined recently so there are sweets and biscuits much more often because of her as well!! My weight loss intentions are struggling - severely!

HairsprayBabe · 05/10/2016 14:43

I have been doing so well, off 2st since August, and this week I dropped BMI category from obese to overweight, hoping to be healthy by December, only need another stone and a half off :)

Then I can eat all the mincepies!

lollyj84 · 05/10/2016 20:02

Woolly, I think what you have is catching. After working an almost 9hour day i came home and had this overwhelming urge to clean. I cleaned kitchen, bathroom within an inch of it life(to be fair it was starting to smell like boys) and DC's room.
i do hope it doesn't last to long.

On a xmas note i have a weekend booked with two very good friends to go into london do some shopping and have lunch, possibly a liquid one.Smile

TheWoollybacksWife · 05/10/2016 22:00

I'm sorry lolly. If it's any help I have found a cure. Walking into a teen's bedroom kills the urge to clean stone dead. Grin

I think that I'm almost done with present-shopping now, apart from a hamper basket to put my parents' gifts in and my husband's present which will be a new waterproof which we will get when we are in the Lakes from one of the specialist shops there.

I've ordered my Booths food plus I have a Sainsbury's delivery booked which I'll keep pushing back until I get the Christmas slot I want! I've also got a Waitrose order booked which I'll cancel once the Sainsbury's one is sorted!

LaylaDoesAHipToss · 06/10/2016 08:03

Nearly here ladies!Grin

Do any of you have a y1 child? I'm looking for inspiration for a Christmas Eve hamper for him. Got pyjamas so far...

Looking in Asda yesterday- annuals 2 for £7 and dvd's 2 for £12. Was seriously tempted to splurge but I'm hanging on to buy my son's bike first.

HairsprayBabe · 06/10/2016 08:12

Layla Depends when you are opening the hamper, if it is in the evening to get him settled for bed PJ's, hot chocolate, nice bath stuff, new toothbrush and a christmassy book/DVD should do the trick!

LaylaDoesAHipToss · 06/10/2016 12:08

Thank you, Babe. Any recommendations for a young Christmas dvd?

Well, I succumbed and nipped into Thorntons. Bought some stocking fillers for my son's stocking, some after dinner mints and a big box for me! 20% off (with a voucher code) on top of the existing offers! Traa lah!

HairsprayBabe · 06/10/2016 12:19

Any of the Raymond Briggs ones are good, and not too long The Snowman, Father Christmas or The snowman and the Snowdog,
Or if you wanted something longer The Nativity, Polar Express or Arthur Christmas are all good ones.

Mummyshortlegz · 06/10/2016 13:50

The Tom and jerry nutcracker is supposed to be nice.
