I set my alarm for six and when it went off DH said it was far too early "we'll go later". Knowing that would be a mistake I left him snoring and got there to find the car park already full. Thank goodness that's out of the way! Has everyone else done their main shop/had their deliveries?

tiredemma · 23/12/2006 08:46

my friend who works at tescos said that thurs night/friday morning at 2am was as busy as a sat morning???? where do these people come from.

Going shopping today will be HORRENDOUS

S88AHG · 23/12/2006 08:48

went to Sainsburys when I finished work last night at midnight, it was lovely in there plenty of check outs open. I was tired but not irritated like I would have been today with the world and his wife there!!!!!! My favourite part is the people who buy a dozen loaves of bread as if the shop will never re-open after Christmas !!!!!!

Quootiepie · 23/12/2006 08:50

DH late last night/early this morning after work - said it was a nightmare! A few years ago I went with my mum about 2am and it was dead, but people are twigging on now!

I went in for something to eat once when I was on nightshift. At 3 in the morning, people had children in there with them, som in PJ's. All I wanted was a bottle of juice and a pizza. I had to queue as no-one with a gigantic trolley would let me in front of them. I ended up just leaving the food and heading to the garage for a Ginsters pasty and a carton of tropicana.

Kazziegirl · 23/12/2006 09:29

DH went yesterday and finished off the last bits so no more supermarkets for us. He went first thing and it was packed so I reckon today will be mad!

TinsellyRhino · 23/12/2006 09:31

we still need to get a turkey and beer but dh is doing that so I don't have to enter the madness of the shops

melsy · 23/12/2006 09:34

AllieBeHomeForChristmas · 23/12/2006 09:41

Have to go to Tesco today, am dreading it. Do you think a stun gun will help? Or will I abandon my trolley like last Xmas and make dp go instead.
He went early morning last year and said it was like a plague of locusts had descended with nothing at all on shelves.

Went into M&S food department with buggy on Monday. Got stuck against shelves surrounded by frenzied women with trolleys. Nice M&S assistant pulled me out and chased frenzied women away. Would probably be still there now if not for her!

mumfor1standfinaltime · 23/12/2006 09:50

Am also shocked at full car park at 6.30am! Lol.
Just glad I have done my food shopping. I find it unbelievable how busy supermarkets get, mind you they are shut for one day...!

kiskidee · 23/12/2006 09:55

people get stupid at christmas and the supermarkets are laughing all the way to the bank.

MerryMellowmas · 23/12/2006 09:56

Our is open 24 hours but for some reason me and dh have decided to go today

Carmenere · 23/12/2006 09:57

Does Tesco et al shut at 10 tonight because of Sunday hours or summat?

JackieNoHoHo · 23/12/2006 10:01

DH went to Tesco's last night at about 1am (OK, technically this morning) and he said it was as busy as a normal working day in there. Got almost everything, except eggs, which they'd sold out of.

munz · 23/12/2006 10:09

I secumbed and went in yesterday as we ran out of formula - and the spar doesn't do that! lol. some stupid woman was saying to her DH well just run them over run into them all she then poceeded to stand in the middle of the isle - I kid you not to look at the cakes I mean go to the side ffs! and when she did barge her way thru (there was loads of space btw it was hardly jam packed to the rafters) she missed sqashing J's hand by CM's DH was not best impressed and told her so

Kittypickle · 23/12/2006 10:12

I have just got back from Tescos as had to get one thing. It was a bit surreal, there were only about 5 of us under the age of 65. I guess everyone else had done it online.

dinny · 23/12/2006 10:16

God, dh and mil just gone to Waitrose - are they going to be HOURS?

EniDeepMidwinter · 23/12/2006 10:18

yes

satine · 23/12/2006 10:20

I queued for almost an hour in Waitrose yesterday. Normally, there is nothing in the world that would have made me wait that long, but I'd taken my next door neighbour in, and she had a long list of essentials, so I was stuck. Still, it being Waitrose, everyone was jolly nice and said it reminded them of rationing. If Cliff had been there, I expect he would have led us in a few rousing carols. Had it been Tescos, fights would have been breaking out

In fact when we finally emerged into the car park, it transpired that some poor old chap in an automatic car had ploughed into 6 other cars, causing quite extensive damage (I had wondered why there were so many tannoy announcements in the shop calling for the owners of all these cars!) and even the owners seemed quite unfazed by the situation, some even smiling and joking with the policeman. Amazing!

EniDeepMidwinter · 23/12/2006 10:22

wehich waitrose?

dinny · 23/12/2006 10:23

oh, flipping blink, want to go to gym

Waitrose in Warlingham, Enid

fizzbuzz · 23/12/2006 10:26

Asda is the scariest shop at Christmas...went there once at Christmas...never ever again, if fights break out at Tesco, mass murder must happen in Asda
