Looking for some Yankee Candle help as I don't use them myself!

Which of the Xmas Yankee candles smells nice? I need to get one for a present and have no clue!

Thanks x

Are you looking for this years Festive ones or previous?

I like "Cosy By The Fire" this year but it's not as nice IMO as "Sparkling Cinnamon"

CBTF is cinnamon/clove/orange
SC is cinnamon/clove

I love "Spiced Orange" it's a bit like Pears Soap

DD loves "Candy Cane Lane" - vanilla hint in mint

"Christmas Cookie" - smells much nicer burnng than in the jar

"Salted Caramel" - gorgeous , not overly sweet like you'd imagine

I don't like pine or the Gingerbread ones

The large jars have a 150 hour burn time but make sure your recipient trims the wick to 1cm long and burns it for at least 3 hours till the wax melts across the top, otherwise it tunnels.

You could buy them some votives and a votive holder (they melt to liquid so they need a holder)
or Tealights

Then you could get a selection of smells.

I love Yankee Candles.
I have a 20% off White Company but was underwhelmed at their winter candle and the 20% off didn't even tempt me.

I'm going to buy a Sparkling Cinnamon Reed diffuser for the loo. Xmas Grin

I am currently burning "Mistletoe", it smells lovely! I also adore "Toasted Almond".

SirNiallDementia · 02/12/2015 15:22

Wow, lots to choose from, thanks!

Sparking cinnamon is lovely and christmas cookie.

ChutneyRhodrey · 02/12/2015 15:41

Snow in Love is my absolute favourite. It has a sweet scent that isn't too overpowering.

It's the kind of scent that fills the whole house. I remember burning a votive in the living room last Christmas and being able to smell it upstairs on the landing.

Doughnutsandflapjacks33 · 02/12/2015 15:45

Christmas cookie is my favourite but I think it depends if you like sweet things ( I like all the sweet Yankee candles but not keen on the others ), candy cane lane is also really nice.

randomcatname · 02/12/2015 15:46

My advice would be don't buy without a sniff! I was in Asda this afternoon and got excited when I saw they were only £9 but omg they were all rank. Apart from Snow in Love, granted. None of the others mentioned so far were there. One of them (Merry Berry?) actually made me jump back it was so bad.

I'm very fussy about candles.

wonderpants · 02/12/2015 15:48

Someone gave me Christmas Eve one year, and I've always treated myself to one since.

SirNiallDementia · 02/12/2015 16:00

Right, it appears I have a Yankee Candle Outlet shop nearby so I'm off tomorrow for a sniff!

Many thanks to you all!

Good luck OP. This is important business! Xmas Smile

BumWad · 02/12/2015 20:20

Lemon lavender is lush

Spiced orange for this time of year

Have just put sparkling snow on and it smells amazing - very pine

Midnight jasmine is a classic floral smell

They are 3 for 2 in boots btw

BumWad · 02/12/2015 20:21

Clean cotton is a lovely fresh smell, vanilla like nice too.

I also love love love ya lee candles

BumWad · 02/12/2015 20:21

*yankee

Hulababy · 02/12/2015 20:23

I have some Christmas votive candles and also the advent calendar.

DH doesn't like Cosy by the Fire.
Currently burning Candy Cane Lane - not a very strong smell at all.
I liked Bundled Up.

TendonQueen · 02/12/2015 20:23

Don't bother with the Asda ones. There's a reason they're so much cheaper. From the 'real' ones, if you like sweet scents then Christmas Cookie, slightly sweet then Candy Cane Lane (minty too), or Red Apple Wreath is nice if you like something fresher. Sparkling Cinnamon is also lovely as a comforting baking type scent.

randomcatname · 02/12/2015 20:28

No TendonQueen, they were branded Yankee candles I spied in Asda. I meant they were cheaper than others I'd seen and I think it's their size, in between the small and large. Also loads of votives and wax melts. Just a pity I thought they were so yuck. My hunt continues. I had a lovely woodwick one last year but the only one I've sniffed to my satisfaction is White Company and they are so ££££££. Xmas Shock

Behooven · 02/12/2015 20:30

TK Maxx have lovely wood wick candles in

Paddypaws3 · 02/12/2015 20:31

Cinnamon sticks or sparking cinnamon...love them.

I also adore Snow in Love. It's supposed to be a Christmas fragrance but I burn it all year Xmas Blush.

randomcatname · 02/12/2015 20:31

Oooh thanks Behooven. Did you spy how much they were?

SewingAndCakes · 02/12/2015 20:31

I bought a 6 pack of votives from Asda, and so far, ds2 has complained that one smelt like Playdoh, and the other one I couldn't smell at all Sad

Behooven · 02/12/2015 20:40

I got a Frosted Spruce for £9.99, it's lovely Smile

BooAvenue · 02/12/2015 20:42

Asda only sell the simply home and not the "real" Yankees.

imwithspud · 02/12/2015 20:45

'Simply home' Yankee candles are poor compared to the normal ones. I bought a sweet pea one a few months ago and never finished it. I just couldn't smell it at all.

randomcatname · 02/12/2015 20:47

So what - the asda Yankee Candles are nothing to do with Yankee Candles? How do they get away with that?

SpellBookandCandle · 02/12/2015 20:49

WoodWick candles are fab too. I love Cinnamon Chai. Yankee Candle is my fave right now as I have family connection so I get the friends and family 40%discount and special sales! Xmas Grin
