Looking for some Yankee Candle help as I don't use them myself!

Which of the Xmas Yankee candles smells nice? I need to get one for a present and have no clue!

Thanks x

Fireside treats burning here at the minute. Smells like toasting marshmallows.

randomcatname · 04/12/2015 17:02

It may have been mentioned because I'm late checking my emails, but Martin's Moneysaving says Boots are doing 3 for 2 on Yankee. Think Debenhams have deals as well.

IveGotAGoldenTicket · 04/12/2015 18:49

Someone has probably already said 'Christmas Eve' but I bought a set from Boots last week that had two small candles and two holders with it and I think it smells lovely. Never bought Yankee candles before but now I have the holders I will definitely be buying more

Christmas Eve is amazing. Someone bought it for me one year, I have bought it ever since. I have also burnt it at other times of the year, not just Christmas!

gaggiagirl · 05/12/2015 00:55

I'm burning peach cobbler. Not festive but gorgeous.

imwithspud · 05/12/2015 16:58

I have frankincense burning at the moment. It was given to me otherwise I wouldn't have bought it myself but it's actually quite nice. Quite a 'spicy' but festive smell.

I have Christmas Eve but it's up in the loft, dp forgot to bring it down when he got the decorations.

Candy cane lane for us, it's gorgeous. Never imagined I would have a strong candle preference but here we are.

mumsnit · 06/12/2015 20:50

Sunlight on Snow which is the Yankee Simply Home range from Asda is lovely! Agree most of the others from the cheaper range don't smell of much apart from Bermuda Beach which I buy quite often.

YC are pricy but they do burn better than others I've tried.

Sparkling snow and Snowflake Cookie! Divine. Grin

pompster · 07/12/2015 08:46

snowflake cookie is my fave, and fireside treats and sugared apple are close seconds!

yumyumpoppycat · 07/12/2015 09:30

christmas memories and salted caramel are awful and smell of unpleasant cooking smells. Like others here I really like the snowflake cookie - it seems to be the most pleasant of the christmas ones, a few smell so subtle that you wouldn't notice they are on- but I'm not sure how christmasy it is really, it is sweet smelling.

fairyjasmine · 07/12/2015 11:13

I have the Yankee Candle advent calendar and my favourite scent so far has been Snowflake Cookie. It's not massively Christmassy - reminds me a bit of Nice biscuits! I also have a large Fireside Treats which is probably my favourite Yankee Candle to date.
I wish I'd known to trim the wick, though... there is definite tunnelling. Is it too late to do anything about it now? The dip is about an inch deep...

pompster · 07/12/2015 20:37

Fairy I find that when the wax is soft round the edges after I've blown it out, gently push it down so it's more level. Just be careful you don't burn yourself on the melted wax. Ive done with with my large jar and kept wick trimmed and no tunnelling st all.

QVC (qvcuk.com) have a Yankee Candle TSV (Todays Special Value) on Tues 8th.

Hopefully some Christmas candles............ rubs hands together

y0rkier0se · 07/12/2015 22:39

The asda yankee candles are a cheaper version of yankee - made by the same company but they're a less 'premium' range if that makes sense? They don't have as much/as strong fragrance. They're described as a 'background' scent rather than a proper yankee that you can smell clearly. Anyway, I would recommend sugared apple or cranberry ice. Also on amazon large jars about £15 each but 4 for 3 at the moment making them £11 each which is about the best price i've ever seen them. Failing that boots 3 for 2 - £20 each but £10's worth of points when you spend £50 (think it ends tonight though!).

y0rkier0se · 07/12/2015 22:40

Major cross post sorry Blush Can I also second Lily Flames silent night? And also snow fall. Gorgeous little candles.

y0rkier0se · 07/12/2015 22:42

Gaggia if it's double wick is it possibly a village candle?

gaggiagirl · 07/12/2015 23:39

Thanks y0rk could it be village candle re labelled? I've seen the village candles they look exactly like Yankee. Wonder how they smell.

Greentriangle82 · 08/12/2015 10:43

Christmas Eve and cranberry ice ( I think it's called?) are my favourites

y0rkier0se · 08/12/2015 23:57

Yes could be, I haven't bought a village candle but had a sniff in the shop and they smell really artificial imo!

LondonAmericanMum · 09/12/2015 13:30

I love the M&J London Ethical Luxury candles www.mj-london.com/collection.php candle they use soy wax not paraffin ( soy wax burns cleaner) plus they are made in the UK ! For winter scents I love Tbilisi - Pomegranate , tarragon & walnut but they have good Christmas scent - Bavarian winter smells like mulled wine !

LeiaOrgana · 09/12/2015 13:53

Oh I must be alone in liking the Simply Home ones... 😯😯

We have a large one which is red, I can't remember the name of it, and a multipack of wax melts in different scents. I have a tiny house so I haven't had an issue with the scent not being as strong, I think any stronger and it would give me a headache! If we have been burning it in the evening I can smell it from upstairs when I get up in the morning.
