Is it a real one ??

charliecat · 10/12/2006 14:22

2 hours
Mine looks like shit too.
But I let the kids decorate it and just watched
Ive tryed to make it look good in previous years, and it never does.
So the kids do it ....blame them!

MerryMellowmas · 10/12/2006 14:23

Mine was like this last year. Looked like I had picked up a bush and stuck it in the corner, everytime someone came in they would try play around with it, it was horrid.

jabberwocky · 10/12/2006 14:24

We were on the Christmas home tour a few years ago. I hired a decorator to do the house and tree and now I laboriously recreate his effects each year I so suck at doing things like that on my own.

SherlockLGJ · 10/12/2006 14:26

What in the name of all that is good and Holy is a Christmas home tour?????

DeckthehallswithboughsofhollyL · 10/12/2006 14:27

No, not real. But it's quite big and DD wants to help but as soon as I'm putting stuff on it, she's yanking it off again. So now, all you an see is the wires leading to all those poxy little lights, but not actually the lights because they have been (beautifully) shoved right inside the tree where no one can see them, by DD

Last year the kids used every bit of tinsel we had, it looked pretty terrible, but I didn't give a hoot. MIL obviously did because she came in while we were away over christmas and redecorated it

xmasmummy · 10/12/2006 14:28

i havnt put mine up yet as i somehow lost the best set of lights i have ever had so have to buy a new set tomorrow

DeckthehallswithboughsofhollyL · 10/12/2006 14:30

I did phone my mum earlier to ask if she fancied popping round for a cup of tea...

But she refused, saying she was too busy putting her tree up

vitomum · 10/12/2006 14:31

yes, please tell what a christams home tour is?

my xmas tree is real and very lopsided looking. I am hoping it will look better at night in the dark with just the twinkle of its lights

MerryMellowmas · 10/12/2006 14:33

I haven't put ours up either. DH has to go into attic and it very traumatic.. for everyone in house, we are all scared of heights. Have been putting it off for weeks.

DeckthehallswithboughsofhollyL · 10/12/2006 14:39

This is the only bit about Christmas that I actually hate, even more so than wrapping stuff up. Bah humbug!

It still looks shit...

You beat me to it -I was going to start a similar thread

We've actually got a lovely (real) tree -nice, even shape etc. but DD and DS have decorated it and it looks like a dogs dinner . If I can be arsed later I'll re-do it slightly after they've gone to bed.

pedilia · 10/12/2006 15:44

mine is loking pretty awful to but the kids did it and their happy so WTF

jabberwocky · 10/12/2006 20:29

Youuys don't have home tours over there?

Okay, so it's where certain homes in the community are opened for Christmas. Usually it's older homes or unique homes (for instance a log house). The historical society sells tickets as a fundraiser. You have to pull out all the stops with the Christmas decorations and put out punch and cookies/candies.

jabberwocky · 10/12/2006 20:30

"you guys"

merrylissiemas · 10/12/2006 20:33

brimfull · 10/12/2006 20:36

Oh jabberwocky,my mum goes on those home tours in Canada. Our house was in it one yr but she nearly passed out with the stress of it

jabberwocky · 10/12/2006 20:38

I can totally understand! iT FELT LIKE WE GOT READY FOR MONTHS!

oops, sorry for the caps

SpicymulledSheraz · 10/12/2006 20:40

Mine looks like i just tipped the box of decs over it... I would love a colour cordinated one. Mine looks like an impressionist painting, ie vaguley like a Xmas tree should. It is real though and smells divine.

Miaou · 10/12/2006 20:44

We've just finished putting ours up and I have to say it looks quite good, in a home-madey mishmash sorta way . It's a fake tree but a really nice one (cost us about £60 nearly 10 years ago!) and it has been worth its weight in gold - still looks just as good.

Judy1234 · 10/12/2006 20:52

.. ah but you put in the effort... think of here - last week, the company came, the 8 footer put up by someone with an artistic eye and I'm afraid every time I go past it it gives me huge pleasure because it looks great and I didn't have to wrestle it home and scratch my arms like in some other years or fiddle with lights, but on the other hand it's not personalised except that we had a range of decoration choices to go for. Anyway I'm pleased with it.

santasweetdreamer · 10/12/2006 20:54

sorry xenia but when I saw you were the last poster my first thought was "bet she didn't put it up herself"

SpicymulledSheraz · 10/12/2006 20:57

8 footer you must have high celings? Or a hole in the roof?!
