I spoke to someone yesterday who had put their tree up already Shock. I thought that was just for the shops!

I have got a couple of friends coming here to do something festive (make wreaths) on the 1st. Sherry and mince pies will be involved and I was thinking of putting the tree up the day before to add to the occasion!

Bit earlier than usual for me I think but needs must and all that.

Up on the 5/6 Dec, down on the 2nd. I love the lights in the depths of winter but hate them after NY. Leaving the decs up too long after NY is like being the last person to leave a party. A bit sad!

Agee with john

Our tree goes up this year on the 28th of november with the rest of the living room decorations

The rest of the house will be decorated on the 29th

Will come down a room at a time late december with the living room taken down at the end of december/beginning of january

Weekend before the 1st this year because I strongly suspect a quick c sect date being given to me the Monday at my consultant appt :-) so it'll be full steam ahead and it'll be nice for ds to have the putting up a tree on his own one last time

DeepBlueLake · 17/11/2015 23:27

Ours goes up on the 10th December as thats our wedding anniversary.

Will be down on the 3rd January, hate having Christmas decs up after the New Year.

SmellyFartado · 17/11/2015 23:43

Tree up first weekend of December.
All packed away 1st Jan

CantSee4Looking · 18/11/2015 02:21

not sure we will be having a tree or decorations this year. Living in the middle of a building site.
Tree goes up 24th December. comes down 6th of Jan. It's a mismash of different country traditions. Presents 24th and not the 25th too. It all arrives together as a giant magical surprise for the kids and they are very much NOT allowed to help in the putting up.

Real tree.up on the first. I chop of an inch, drill a hole up into the trunk and water. Tree down on the 31st and we have a massive spring clean so we enter new year sparkly and fresh.

For me the decorations are wonderful in December and January is all about a fresh start. Dd loves coming home and putting the lights on the tree.

Strawclutching · 18/11/2015 07:15

Normally the5th December but we're on holiday this year till the 19th[santa]

CoolSummer · 18/11/2015 07:58

I can't imagine bringing in the new year without the tree! It adds to the festivities!!

FourForYouGlenCoco · 18/11/2015 08:26

I can't stay off this thread! It's making me feel so festive. [santa] loving it.

CalypsoLilt · 18/11/2015 08:28

I used to feel anxious about Christmas as a child because of all the ferrying around between parents (divorced) and I could sense all the stress from the adults.

Now I'm a grown-up (cough) I'm learning to re-love Christmas [santa] so tree and decorations will be up as soon as possible in early December. Fairy lights usually go up about now and stay until the end of January. I started on the mince pies about two weeks ago Grin

Star2015 · 18/11/2015 08:32

I was going to suggest to DH we wait until 12th this year as we always have s real tree and if we put it up for 1st December usually looks very sad by Christmas however, I'm now having my hair cut that day and going to the dentist too many toffee quality street eaten already!! and I'd like to make a whole day of it, pick up a tree, wreath and some mistletoe and then spend the day decorating with my Christmas music that I've been playing since August.

We'll see. It's such a lovely day when the decorations go up.

Whenever you all do yours I hope you have a wonderful day [santa]

ilovelamp82 · 18/11/2015 11:04

My birthday is 20th December and I LOVED have the Christmas tree up. Both my boys are December birthdays too and the love the Christmas tree up.

TelephoneTree · 18/11/2015 12:05

2nd weekend of December. I can't wait!

DrSausagedog · 18/11/2015 15:39

Probably up this coming weekend, but always take it down in 28th or 29th December- I loathe Christmas things being up for New Year, like to have a clean house for that and it seems silly having Christmas related things around into January. Would far prefer to enjoy them all up for the whole of December and enjoy the anticipation of it all more.

VinoTime · 18/11/2015 15:52

I go by whatever weekend is closer to the 1st. So this year it will be going up the 28/29th Xmas Grin

I'm desperate to get mine up. I've bought so many new decorations and they're cluttering up my bedroom! Arf.

Sunnymeg · 18/11/2015 17:10

When I was little, my Father would come home from work at lunchtime on Christmas Eve and we would then put the tree up. It always seemed to be magical decorating the tree, going to bed and it being Christmas next morning. However DH family always put their tree up on December 1st and that's what we do now. Far too early in my opinion!

Jo4040 · 18/11/2015 17:16

DH wants it up Friday/Saturday. He normally gets his own way. Not this year tho...hes waiting till the 1st

SciFiFan2015 · 18/11/2015 17:39

For me the 12 days of Christmas equals 6 days before and 6 days after. That's it. Want tit down before the year turns!

cleoteacher · 18/11/2015 17:42

Ds birthday is on dec 16th so we try not to do any Christmas things until then. It's difficult but we want to make sure his birthday feels important and is celebrated rather than just merging into Xmas.

So probably put it up on dec 17th. Bit later than I d like

FireCrotch · 18/11/2015 18:25

It's dh's birthday on the 2nd of December so we now do it the weekend after. He says it doesn't feel properly birthday-ish with Xmas tree and whatnot so we hold off. You wouldn't think he's 44 this year. :o

NickiFury · 18/11/2015 18:36

1st December. One of my friends on FB put hers up today Hmm.

LimboNovember · 18/11/2015 18:46

sunnny I would love to leave it that late it would without doubt add so much more magic.

I couldnt leave it that late though. I have to fight with myself and will probably put up second week of december.

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 18/11/2015 18:49

Usually around the 1st/first weekend, but I have a toddler this year and I'm not sure I can handle the half naked tree look longer than a couple of weeks!

I'm sure I'll cave and put them up on the 1st though Smile
