I spoke to someone yesterday who had put their tree up already Shock. I thought that was just for the shops!

I have got a couple of friends coming here to do something festive (make wreaths) on the 1st. Sherry and mince pies will be involved and I was thinking of putting the tree up the day before to add to the occasion!

Bit earlier than usual for me I think but needs must and all that.

This year it will go up Xmas eve because we have a puppy 2 year old ds and ds will be 1 on 21st. From next year santas elves will put it up after the kids have gone to bed on 23rd and will leave their Xmas eve box under it (new pjs for everyone, DVD, hot chocolate, snacks etc) so that's dds birthday is separate from Christmas

flightywoman · 17/11/2015 07:55

Mine goes up about 10 days before - husband's birthday is in the first two weeks of December and I don't do it before then, his birthday gets christmassed enough as it is.

Luciferbox · 17/11/2015 07:56

First weekend of December, it's the law.

OldeEnglish · 17/11/2015 07:59

Always the 15th in our house and was at my Mums too. It's after my Sons and Brother's birthdays have passed just because we don't want it to distract from celebrating their days.

last weekend in November. but there's an away footy match on the Saturday and a santa dash on Sunday. I like prepping and cleaning on that day so it will have to be Saturday night.

amysmummy12345 · 17/11/2015 08:08

Doesn't matter what day I put mine up, you can guarantee within half an hour the fucking cats up it and had two or three branches off Angry

lavendersun · 17/11/2015 08:16

29 Nov is the first Sunday of advent - not that I am particularly religious but it has a ring to it Grin.

I foresee a 'slow' Sunday, nice lunch, papers, fire and putting the tree up.

Winter solstice. Which means that I will be having a Christmas party without a tree this year :-)

Kuriusoranj · 17/11/2015 08:25

Usually the first weekend in December. This year that's too late, so clearly it will be 29th November. We have a family birthday late November but once that's passed my husband realises that all restraints are off and I steam into Christmas. I love love love it.

marmaladegranny · 17/11/2015 08:35

DD's birthday is 15th so nothing remotely Christmassy was ever done in the house until the weekend after that, so she had a few days with birthday cards up, like her siblings with sensible birth dates!

hebihebi · 17/11/2015 08:35

I put mine up on 30th November so it's ready for when we start our advent calendars. I take it down on Boxing Day.

elQuintoConyo · 17/11/2015 08:37

8th December, whatever day it lands, is a holiday where we are and DS' birthday has passed.

We have a fake tree, so that goes up with all the decorations. We'll take them down after the 6th January, as we also celebrate the epicfanny (sorry Grin) and as it's Kings' Day there are the other half of the presents to give/receive.

I am getting excited as DS will be 4 this year, so he really gets it all

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 17/11/2015 08:37

Whatever Friday school breaks up! I don't know what I'd find more depressing: tree up in November or tree down on Boxing Day tbh!

FourForYouGlenCoco · 17/11/2015 08:43

First weekend of December, or 'Becember' as it's currently known in my house thanks to 3yo. I CAN'T WAIT. So excited!
It comes down on the 27th (if not before) though because I don't see the point of the Christmas tree after Christmas.

Fugghetaboutit · 17/11/2015 08:49

How are you all getting it up on the 1st when it's a Tuesday? Will you pick the tree without kids or what?

We'll put ours up first weekend in December.

Pranmasghost · 17/11/2015 08:56

19th December here and down on 6th January

SusannahD · 17/11/2015 09:05

I'm putting it up the weekend 5th-6th December.

BrennieGirl · 17/11/2015 09:25

Usually about two weeks before Christmas. We get a real tree so we can't put it up too early. We take it down on New Year's Day because I can't stand looking at it for any longer than that.

Am I the only one who finds putting up the decs up a bit stressful? And it always seems to take all day. Although having said that, last year I decorated the house one weekend and put the tree up the following weekend which was much better (I don't know why I hadn't thought of doing that before).

The year DH and I moved in together, we were so excited about our first Christmas together that we put the tree up at the end of November. Ahh, young love. We soon learned!

I do think November is too early, but each to their own I suppose.

BrennieGirl · 17/11/2015 09:33

I just asked DH if he remembered our first Christmas together and putting up the tree in November.

DH: Staring at me blankly "No. Did we? That was probably your idea. I would never do something so ridiculous " ??

I'm going to have to LTB aren't I?

Buttons23 · 17/11/2015 09:39

I would like to put ours up on the 1st but we just don't know when oh will be off work, he does shift work. So it will be at some point during the first week when oh has a day off.

dayslikethis · 17/11/2015 09:53

Normally first weekend in December, but this year my FIL has decided to grace us with his presence that very weekend. Angry As it's a bit of a sacred family tradition to all troop off to the forest together, pick our tree, eat our rudolph burgers and peruse the stalls while bumping into friends (the whole event taking up most of the morning) and then decorate the tree the following day (taking up the whole afternoon), we (and yes, my DH totally agrees with me on this) don't particularly want my very prickly FIL to ruin intrude on that, we are putting it off until the weekend after. The 12th/13th Dec seems really, really late though. Sad

MooseAndSquirrel · 17/11/2015 09:53

Saturday just gone Grin its all sparkly and Christmassy in my house and I make no apologises for it! Best thing about being single - no one to judge my overly excited Christmas spirit! [santa]

hebihebi · 17/11/2015 09:56

Ours is fake so we will probably just do it after school. To be honest young kids + cats = hot mess but as long as we have fun it doesn't bother me too much. I don't care if it looks like something off Pinterest/Country Living. We usually add/break things in the run up to Christmas. Presents only go under the tree on Christmas Eve once the kids are in bed as they are not to be trusted.

Coco7841 · 17/11/2015 10:13

22nd November this year for me. It's normally around the 6th of December but I'm on holiday
