I spoke to someone yesterday who had put their tree up already Shock. I thought that was just for the shops!

I have got a couple of friends coming here to do something festive (make wreaths) on the 1st. Sherry and mince pies will be involved and I was thinking of putting the tree up the day before to add to the occasion!

Bit earlier than usual for me I think but needs must and all that.

Lights go up when town lights go on (~3rd week of November)
Tree goes up on last day of term.
Tree comes down weekend before term re-starts.

It would drive me crazy having tree up while term was still on!

ComeInBaldrick · 17/11/2015 15:31

Always the first Sunday in December here.

Someone I know put their tree up before Halloween! Shock Someone else I know put it up last weekend.

I'm the biggest Christmas fan going, but it's still too early for me.

eckythumpenallthat · 17/11/2015 16:46

We are going to pick our tree this weekend then Will go back on the 13th to get it chopped down and put it up that weekend

SenecaFalls · 17/11/2015 16:51

Long-standing tradition in my family is to put it up on my birthday, which is mid-December.

LikeASoulWithoutAMind · 17/11/2015 17:04

Second weekend in December usually. Any earlier and I'm fed up of it before Christmas!

lightgreenglass · 17/11/2015 17:35

I haven't had a tree for 2 years so it's going up on the 29th November! We're always away for 2 weeks over Christmas so I want to get my own tree viewing worth.

CaptainKit · 17/11/2015 17:39

First weekend of December, so probably the afternoon of the 5th. Although don't think it'll be in the lounge this year due to the 7 month old puppy with a penchant for chewing things. Then next year I'll have a 10 month old child as well... This is the end of naice Christmas trees, isn't it?

lavendersun · 17/11/2015 17:46

light, I am starting to feel the same way I suppose - get your viewings worth that is.

DH goes back to work on the Sunday after Christmas and me & DD will visit family for 5-7 days at that point, he won't be home again for a couple of weeks. Christmas at home will be well and truly over on the 27th!!

I want it all put away before I go away on the 27th.

Christmas Eve.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 17/11/2015 17:53

22nd December and down by 2nd Jan.

VoldemortsNipple · 17/11/2015 18:24

The first week in December. I take the whole week off work so I can put the decorations up, wait for my Black Friday/cyber Monday parcels to arrive and to get the majority of the wrapping done. I have teenagers here so no chance of doing it when they are in bed. I love it. This year I've bought the Costco Christmas Village. I'm going to have so much fun faffing with it. I love having the decorations up, it's the only time of year I get slightly OCD. They usually come down on the 1st January, definitely before I'm back in work.

Ninacarter77 · 17/11/2015 19:38

The lounge one will be up Dec 5th real one for dining room weekend before Christmas.

SitsOnFence · 17/11/2015 20:12

Our tree usually comes in and decorations go up around 6-10 days before Christmas, depending on when the weekends fall/what we're doing. I buy it on or before the second Sunday of December and keep it in the garden until we're ready for it in the house. It stays up until either the weekend before the children go back to school or until it starts to shed!

However I put little artificial trees up in the DC's bedrooms as they sleep on 30th November, get the Christmas books out and, this year, set up our new Playmobil nativity set we may have got a few of the Christmas books out and read them this weekend

SitsOnFence · 17/11/2015 20:15

Damn you VoldemortsNipple, I've just googled the Costco Christmas village. DH would kill me!

dementedma · 17/11/2015 20:21

Probably before DD's birthday on Dec 15th so whatever the nearest weekend to that is

JamesBlonde1 · 17/11/2015 20:25

First Saturday in December. Love getting all the gear out. Christmas bits here and there. Reindeer in the garden etc. I've paid for it all so want my money's worth - but wouldn't do it in November.

SoWhite · 17/11/2015 20:29

December the 13th. Always goes up that weekend, as it is my mum's birthday and its a family tradition that has stuck with me.

gingerdad · 17/11/2015 20:40

2nd Sunday in December. Will get ours from local farm the week before. Last year cost £8 for 7ft tree and didn't drop at all. They are cut on the farm so always really fresh.

Quietlifenotonyournelly · 17/11/2015 21:31

Our tree always goes up around the 5th of December a few days after DDs birthday so she could enjoy her day with the distraction of Christmas.
We still do it now even though she in her twenties and not living at home.

VoldemortsNipple · 17/11/2015 21:46

Grin sitsonfence dh will know we've acquired a new Christmas village when he sees it all set up Wink He hasn't been to Costco in ages so will have no idea of the cost.

OSETmum · 17/11/2015 22:04

Ours will be the 5th December this year. We're buying a brand new tree and decorations this year as we've recently moved house and I'm so excited! Even dh is a teensy bit excited...

tinkerbellvspredator · 17/11/2015 22:12

My birthday is a few days before Christmas and I've always loved Christmas and the tree and the decorations etc. I've always thought it makes my birthday even more fantastic Grin

I usually put my tree up on the first weekend of December but I've been persuaded by the Christmas Reboot thread to do it later to make the actual holiday more special so am going to try and restrain myself until 20th this year.

SenecaFalls · 17/11/2015 22:30

Quite a few December birthdays, I see. Smile I have always enjoyed having my birthday in the festive season. We got married in December, too, though, and that makes for a lot of celebrating.

CiderwithBuda · 17/11/2015 22:37

Usually start the process first week in December. I go a bit overboard! Never ever start in November though. It's just too early.

We are having stuff done in the house though and decorators are booked to paint two rooms from Monday 30 Nov so once they have finished and we get the house back to normal we will start the weekend of 5th and 6th.

DramaAlpaca · 17/11/2015 22:39

Ours will go up about a week before Christmas and stay up until 6th January.
