I've got most of my Christmas presents in and spent around £500 where my friend spent £3000.
What's the normal?
Maybe I spend too little.
£500 is a lot of money for me but my friend was like .is that all.

Haven't started yet

Ooh, unless you count the present that arrived too late for DD's birthday and is stashed away for Christmas?

How many people are you buying for, as that tends to make rather a lot of difference?

Buttons23 · 16/11/2015 15:25

Around £150, got my ds, partner and various members of family sorted. Still have to do some family members, should be around £200 by the time I have finished.

I try not to go crazy and make the money go far, the retail value is probably around £500-£600 mark so am happy.

recklessgran · 16/11/2015 15:30

Have spent about £500 so far and about half done. Would have been a lot more if it wasn't for the Christmas thread - so thank you everyone! I don't think it matters how much or how little you spend - it's about spreading the love isn't it ? It is not about your bank balance or lack of it!

Confused2015xxx · 16/11/2015 15:35

Exactly if we have food in and all happy and cosy I'm happy.
Tin of roses and a turkey and I'm content.
I have 4 people to buy for but I did buy myself a bottle of perfume for £50 but don't tell anyone ;-)

Just over 500 which includes the many December birthdays in the family. I came in on budget so I'm happy.

Badders123 · 16/11/2015 15:41

I will have spent about £600 by the time I'm done.
Lots of bargains :)

VinoTime · 16/11/2015 16:27

I've spent around £250 on family and friends atm, still to buy a couple of small things. I only buy for my immediate family (mum, dad, sisters and nephews) and my cousins two girls family-wise, and I spend around £5 on buying some of my close friends' children a small minding.

8 year old DD's budget has been blown out of the water already. I had initially said £300 max. I'm already over £500 as a result of Lego Elves and Descendants dolls costing me a kidney (I was £100 on five dolls alone).

I've spent an additional eye watering amount planning Christmas trips/Santa's grotto's and buying new decorations, advent calendars and clothes/PJ's. But purely gift wise, as it stands, I'm pushing £800 right now with a few bits left to buy.

Dionysuss · 16/11/2015 18:01

I spend £300 on DC x4
£100 family - wine and chocolates all round
£25 on nephews x3
Panto tickets £150

NotSoDesperateHousewife · 16/11/2015 18:11

My app tells me I've spent £650. Have bought for 4 kids, husband and parents. Still have about £200 of kids presents to get and a few adult bits. We budget about £1200 though so doing just fine.

Pengweng · 16/11/2015 18:26

Will probably be around £500 total once finished i think. I have my family done (mum, sister, BIL and three kids) and the DTs and DH. DH still has to buy his mum, dad, brother and GPs.

Pengweng · 16/11/2015 18:27

Oh he has to buy me too so maybe another £50. DTs are three so not getting anything massive and as they are twins we have double the amount of shite anyway so i try and limit things as my mum goes a bit crazy.

RainbowCake · 16/11/2015 18:42

£445 according to my App. One big one to get and couple of smaller so will be about £600 when done.
I think it all depends though on family size and circumstances. There is no right cost for gifts.

MummyPig24 · 16/11/2015 19:01

£154 on a Nintendo 3ds and a game for ds1.

3 santa sacks filled with bits and bobs, presents for the dcs from their siblings (6 presents total), have got my grandad and 6 cousins done.

I reckon that's another £100 on there. We still need to get dd and ds2 scooters and the rest of our families. I think we will spend £400-£500 in total.

Misty9 · 16/11/2015 19:02

Haven't worked it out yet, but what is this app? Sounds useful!

WipsGlitter · 16/11/2015 19:03

About £300 so far. Fewer bargains than last year because I've changed job and can't get to the shops at lunchtime any more. Prob spend another £400 - kids, family, DP and then teachers etc.

RJnomaaaaaargh · 16/11/2015 19:03

Oh god I don't even want to think about it
I start with good intentions

Then I forget I got things already
Then I see something else they would like
Then I see a great bargain

Blush

It's more than £500 and less than £3000 I know that much

millefeuille1 · 16/11/2015 19:36

Misty - the free download Xmas app is really useful. You put in people you need to buy for (with a budget) and gift ideas if you want. Then as you put in each gift bought with the price, it tells you how much budget left per person, and how much you have spent overall. It can save a lot of last minute panic buying, and keep you to budget. There is a lovely moment when it tells you "No more gifts to buy!"

Yankeetarts19 · 16/11/2015 19:42

Loads but only 4 people to buy for,and my dc only receive gifts from me and dh

AutumnLeavesArePretty · 16/11/2015 19:43

Everyone will differ as all have different numbers to buy for and earnings vary so budgets will too.

£250 covers family, friends and teachers and spend that again on DH. Children have no set budgets but under the £3k in the OP.

Badders123 · 16/11/2015 20:01

Both my boys have had no big items this year (bike, scooter, tech etc) so lots of little gifts. Most I've spent on one gift is £35. But they have lots of little things.
I've found ds1 (12.5) quite hard to buy for this year...he's at that tricky age.
Dh and I don't buy gifts for each other...we have a day out instead :) this year we fancy a Christmas market.

dementedpixie · 16/11/2015 20:06

£3 on an annual, that it so far!

insan1tyscartching · 16/11/2015 20:07

I've spent £5 so far on a book for ds, haven't thought what to buy yet much less thought about actually shopping.

BrandNewAndImproved · 16/11/2015 20:10

I've got a £150 budget per dc this year. I've also got an app and I've wrote down on it what I've got so far. Spent about 120 on ds so far and 120 on dd.

I'm now starting to twitch and will probably blow the budget.

Kim82 · 16/11/2015 20:11

So far I have spent £110. I'll be spending another £400 on the kids (4 of them) then maybe £70 ish on presents for family. That'll be me done. Dh and I spend money on ourselves in the January sales rather than buy each other presents.

Davros · 16/11/2015 20:23

I'm waiting for the twitching threads!!
I've inly bought a few things for DD's stocking and her Bidy Shop advent calendar. Oh and good chox advent calendar for me. I think that's it so far!
