Is this normal? Is the mania for control-freakery about presents extending from weddings to christmas and birthdays? Will it one day be bad manners to buy a gift spontaneously for someone, without checking their wishlist first?

FFS, am I just a terrible old fart who ought to get over it?

Only acceptable to send someone a wishlist if they've expressly asked you to give them some ideas, imo.
