It's always Christmas on google!

nickdrakeslovechild · 09/04/2015 13:05

Tescos had all their Easter decs reduced last night so I now have a new wreath for the door, napkins, egg hunt packs and about 10 boxed sets of activities all for under £10!! Now to go back in the loft to add that to the collection.

My OH said to me "so is Easter a "thing" now like Christmas?" I do despair at him, I really do.

HerdOfRhino · 09/04/2015 18:47

It's getting closer! Smile

M&S Outlet had Easter Crackers ( I was thinking the same as your OH nick , is this a THING now ? ) Grin

There was a lovely shop in York (I haven't been there for years so no idea if it's still there) called "Christmas Angels"
and a Christmas Shop in a small arcade near London Bridge Station ( but no idea if it's still there. I'm going to The London Dungeons in June so I'll have a recce)

very Envy of all the Christmas veg being grown on MN.

I made a cake (homemade marzipan) and pudding last year (because there were 6 adults and my 2 DC so I knew I could make them eat the food Grin )

Could grow potatoes in a bag though........

70s, I managed to have most of my Christmas veg 1 year. I had my plot for 6 years, and was reasonably organized - but it just never worked well for Christmas dinner. I'd have the onions and garlic, and maybe something frozen. That 1 year, I had sprouts, brocolli, parsnips, O&G, a couple of bad carrots, leeks and a cabbage, and some frozen peas and French beans.

This year, a (ok, 5) sprouts plant in the garden should give me a handful. French beans for freezer in summer. Potentially a handful of broccoli shoots left on those 5 plants. A leek or 2 if they grow fast enough (I start eating the crop grown over the past winter this coming weekend!!). And maybe some peas from summer freezing. I don't expect to have any more than that. I don't have space anymore for onions, garlic, parsnips or cabbage. Doubt if I will manage winter greens on the windowledge - but I'll try!! Most of those are mixed in between flowers/shrubs or else in window boxes. Salad potatoes freshly harvested would be my dream.

BiddyPop · 22/04/2015 16:23

Sorry hit send too soon.

There's plenty of time though to start off most things. French beans. Peas, mangetout, sugar snaps. Butternut squash or pumpkins. Brassicas. Parsnips. Chillis. Late sowings of onion sets and garlic. Leeks. Carrots. Borlotti beans to dry.

Way too early for things like salad leaves (there are winter suitable varieties) and winter spring onions. Peas can be sown up until June/July - I've had very late sowings crop into very early December on mild winters!!

BiddyPop · 22/04/2015 16:32

Some one of these years, I will make a Christmas Cake or a pudding.

We did plan a Yule Log last year but it got too manic for baking time. Maybe I should reinstate that plan as a starting point. And stockpile my breadcrumbs!!

BiddyPop · 22/04/2015 16:33

Going to slink away again now back to figuring out the law on certain points....I really like the new role I have in work - but it's complicated!!!!So I occasionally slip in here for distraction....
