Boxing Day. Pyjama day or hit the sales?

I work in retail.

Christmas rota has just gone up.

So the poor folk that are working Boxing Day are starting work at 5am.

Really, why the heck would you need to be shopping at 6am on Boxing Day morning.

Pyjama day for me this year:)

If I never had a stitch to wear I wouldn't put myself through battling the sales on Boxing day. For me its a day to do feck all. Shopping that day would be my worst nightmare.

Always a pj day. The world isn't going to end if the shops close for more than one day, and people can order online if they are desperate. There's no need for staff to get out of bed and start work at 5am. Where's their Christmas?

I would rather stick needles in my eyes than go shopping on Boxing Day.
It's a day for relaxing with family and finishing off the wine and chocolate!!!

Some staff are working till 8pm Christmas Eve and back in at 5am Boxing Day.

It's beyond ridiculous

I agree shops shouldnt be allowed to open on Boxing day, its not fair.

And I say that as someone who wants sunday trading laws stopped.

I agree shops should be closed Boxing Day. I won't go shopping on principle that if no-one went they wouldn't bother to open !

Definitely a chill out day! Spend time visiting family or watching Christmas films and scoffing yummy leftovers! I too think that shops should be closed on Boxing Day!

Dd2 is a student who works in a well known jeweller to pay her way through her studies. She will be working boxing day and has been told its horrendous, with people wanting to change gifts or have links taken out etc. Why would you need to do this the day after you have received the gift? Surely it can wait?

I went to the Next sale on Boxing Day last year at 10am foolishly thinking I would pick up a bargain. Nothing, just absolute tat on the rails and people were walking out with 8 bags each. All the good stuff if there were any to begin with had gone. One woman spent 800 on kids clothes probably to ebay as people weren't checking sizes before putting them in their baskets

Definitely avoid the saes at all costs. I really dislike large shops and cinemas being open on Boxing Day. We did a pyjama day last year as had promised ds1 but regreted it as it was the only day with decent weather foe a walk. This year I've promised him a pyjama day between Christmas and New Year, exact date will depend on the weather.

They dont put current stuff.on sale.in Mext though - they pull it all off the floor and bool out stands full of the tat thats years old. Its a swizz.

I used to work in Next. They do put current stock out, not all of it though. They used to write on the tags in pencil if it was stock which was going to be reduced in the sales. I don't shop there now so I don't know if they still do this, it's worth looking though.

Nope I will avoid shops, I hate crowds and people are vile when shopping for 'bargains' I made mistake once when DD was little and one person pushed her over.

I also am old enough to remember when shops where closed over xmas and we survived, even when shops where closed on Sundays!

I work in retail (not life & death kind of shop either, if that exists) and you get literally no perks over Xmas. Open normal hours, (except Xmas day) no extra pay, nothing. And your work load is massive as they want the sale out for 9am Boxing Day, but you can't start until close on Christmas eveHmm, basically telling us to work late Xmas Eve and early Boxing Day. I once told the area manager I was coming in Christmas Day to get it all done and he was just like yeah that's a good idea to get it done, you need to be impactful for open. (I didn't mean it, just wanted to see what he said... He had the three days off) It's crap. Everybody needs to not shop on Boxing Day and then it would cost more to open than to close, if that makes sense, and then maybe stores would close. We close on Christmas day and Easter Sunday, but are expected to work Easter sunday anyway.
However I have to count myself lucky that I get Christmas Day off as. Some people don't even get that! Sad
So in answer to the question, no I don't go to the sales!
