Thanks guys. I've got loads more stuff to get and make so it's great to pop over to these Christmas threads for ideas.

RJnomore · 08/11/2014 21:46

Oh you're all awfully brave with play doh, I never really encouraged that at home!

Solasum · 08/11/2014 21:46

Hmm. Somehow my couple of parcels of secondhand duplo from eBay now seem woefully inadequate. :(

marne2 · 08/11/2014 21:47

Light up pillow was from argos, bought it on their 3 for 2 deal, apparently ebay have them for £9.99 too. Dd2 has ASD and loves anything that lights up.

marne2 · 08/11/2014 21:48

We get through a lot of play dough, one of her favourite things, I will probably get her some more and she will have some pot in her stocking.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/11/2014 21:48

Don't give a stuff where you are from Laura, it's rather irrelevant, everyone is welcome on mn.

sweetsomethings · 08/11/2014 21:49

Not at all Solasum there is nothing wrong with second hand and your kids will have a great xmas too. Whether that be with 1 or 20 presents.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/11/2014 21:50

That is very true KJC.

marne2 · 08/11/2014 21:50

Headphones were from TK max for £6.99 Smile, I havn't payed full price for anything! the hudl was bought with club card vouchers! play dough from sainsburys toy sale! a few bits from argos 3 for 2 and a few amazon bargains.

SeeChooJimmy · 08/11/2014 21:50

solasum duplo is fantastic and is alway a hit in here, and if you got a good deal all the better.

solasum

I wouldn't worry, one year everything bar one or two items was free from freecyle, the biggest hit was a huge group of lion king figures and other animals someone gave away in pre xmas clear out, and a dress I got from car boot in the summer a snow white dress for £1 it had a velvet cape with it, dd was in love.

My neighbour that year went to toys r us and spent over a grand in one huge shop.

It was all fine, my DD loved her presents and had no idea of their source! she certainly didn't covet next doors and they didn't blink at ours (children coming in and out of houses). I got a fab russian doll set from a church hall sale too for a quid, and loads of other bits like that.

TerryDolittle · 08/11/2014 21:53

I wouldn't be able to afford half the things some people buy but I still like reading threads like this. Seeing the lists in photo form is more interesting to me.
It's sad that it can make some people feel their DCs gift pile seems 'inadequate' in comparison but do you posters feel this way about amazing holidays other posters afford to take their children on or those who can send their DC on all the £££ school trips etc?

PenguinBear · 08/11/2014 21:53

You guys have done so well! So far dd4 has a frozen hair band, an Elsa bag and a load of Doc Mcstuffins bits including one of those arm blankets 'snuggle' things, a water bottle and lunchbox Blush

KnittedJimmyChoos · 08/11/2014 21:55

Oh you're all awfully brave with play doh, I never really encouraged that at home!

I got plasticine this year, and I am sure something in the back of my head is telling me it was a bad move but cant think why!

lauraR1989 · 08/11/2014 21:59

Didnt say you did care Kitten....I was simply explaining that you know nothing about me as you probably hadn't see my posts on the net due to the fact that I didn't post here until yesterday.

Solasum couple of my xbox and ds games are 2nd hand, a gift is a gift x

IgnoreMeEveryOtherFuckerDoes · 08/11/2014 22:00

solasum I wrapped up few of my DD old books for DS one xmas he was none the wiser and if I could of got some Disney Mcqueen cars or batman stuff second hand I would of been happy but they sell for ridiculous amounts on likes of ebay. My mum gave him bag of 2nd hand cars he was thrilled still carries them around everywhere.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 08/11/2014 22:00

is Laura real or a wind up?

marne2 · 08/11/2014 22:00

I often buy 2nd hand, last year dd1 wanted a old gameboy advance so we had to find one on ebay, have bought sylvanians families and playmobil 2nd hand in the past too, you get more for your money and it's recycling, I'm finding it harder to buy 2nd hand now the dd's are getting older and the kind of things they ask for are often around the same price new. I have bought them a few more bits since taking the photos ( photos were taken to remind me what I have bought as I have wrapped it all up ). I do get a bit carried away Smile

Solasum · 08/11/2014 22:01

Over a grand in Toys R Us. Wow. Words fail me. There are clearly some very lucky children out there.

Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere, and for slight tangent. Do those of you who go all out for Christmas in this way also do the same for birthdays? Do you buy fun stuff (as in not essential clothes etc) throughout the year as well, or is it all saved for Christmas?

lauraR1989 · 08/11/2014 22:01

Exactly TerryDolittle, I don't do holiday's but still love reading the threads and looking at peoples lovely pictures x

Penguin you probably already know this but the £ shops are packed full of Frozen stuff x

lauraR1989 · 08/11/2014 22:03

TinklyLittleLaugh I am very real lol.....why? Is there a problem?

RJnomore · 08/11/2014 22:03

Duplo is fab. I remember when dd1 was either one or two and DH and I were just starting out and every penny near enough went on living expenses, I found a big tub of duplo for £10 at the time and along with a Winnie the pooh clock at £2 from poundstretchers and some chocolate and a couple of other wee things, that was what we got her.

We played with it for hours.

probably made up for the poor kid not being allowed pay doh

Solasum · 08/11/2014 22:06

Terry, in honesty I am intrigued by the whole idea of Doing Christmas on the scale that some of the posters here clearly do, and I wonder if this is now the norm? And if it is, how does one explain to DC why they have so much less than their friends, before they are old enough to appreciate priorities being elsewhere.

While

lauraR1989 · 08/11/2014 22:07

Solasum, personally I spend less for birthday's as also have a little party (Next friday is DS2's 3rd) we had arranged a huge day out at a farm but decided against it in case we end up back in hospital with DS2's breathing problems. Essentials such as clothes I buy through the year but they do get a Christmas eve outfit and new pyjamas x

flame34 · 08/11/2014 22:07

laura R are you real , shes sparkly real ;-)
