I went to lidl today to get a tassimo disc holder and my local one - which shares a car park with a tesco metro and which I have never seen with more than a scattering of cars was so full you had to queue to get into the car park Shock

What's worse - they had nespresso pod holders in but were already out of the tassimo ones SadAngry so not only did I not get a handy but cheap present for dh that we could do with as I get fed up with all the disc boxes cluttering thing up but I ended up with nearly £40 worth of other stuff that seemed necessary at the time except for the freeze dried chocolate coated cherries which kept jumping into my basket and I didn't have the heart to put back but if I hadn't have gone I would have been none the wiser and not needed any of it. very unbargainous non-present. Not a happy bunny!

Made doubly worse by then going to Morrisons, picking up a Barbie set for dn from the £10 display of toys in big boxes (it really was called something like that) only to discover at the till that it was a £20 set, they just hadn't marked it as such - and it was in £10 promotion in 2 places in store with no price label on Angry - wonder how many people will have picked it up with their shopping and not noticed until later that it was twice the price it appeared to be!

The posh totty charm bracelet advent calendar looks gorgeous! Wish I didn't already have bits for my wooden house advent calendar now! Can't help myself so think going to buy it for next year! (Grin) sitting on my hands till payday now..

theenchantedforest thank you for the Jacqueline magazine link! My daughters just got her first copy as all her friends are reading them and she loves receiving post - can't go wrong for 3pounds!

Someone was looking for the toysrus code BIRTHDAY9 for 5 off 30

OldRoan · 09/11/2014 17:52

My local M&S food has tins of shortbread half price for £4.50 for a nice tin with (I think) 24 pieces of thick shortbread in. Might be useful for anyone looking for fillers for hampers/have for visitors.

daddykyller · 09/11/2014 18:02

Thanks zipzap - good info, thanks :)
depends if you want the pictures etc I guess

neddle · 09/11/2014 18:03

happsymum did you realise that there's a minimum 12 month subscription? I looked at it as a cheap present but then you have to pay a lot more afterwards.

NewEraNewMindset · 09/11/2014 18:11

Anyone know where i can get cheap bows and ribbon etc? I have lots of wrapping paper but need some good festive tat to go on top Grin

slushie · 09/11/2014 18:18

A while ago there was an offer for debenhams vouchers, where you paid less than the face value and the more people that bought it the cheaper it was. Does anyone know who that was through and if they are doing another one?
Thanks

LucyTheValiant · 09/11/2014 18:18

Poundland NewEra? They had some quire big boxes when I was in the other day.

Speaking of which, what kind of style is everyone going for this year? I need to buy some paper and start wrapping but I can't decide!

Nadoligcynhir · 09/11/2014 18:22

Thanks happy for the code. Flowers

NewEraNewMindset · 09/11/2014 18:27

I think I looked in Poundland but was slightly underwhelmed. Wilkos often has nice stuff so might look in there. One year a tesco was selling off big tubes of baubles and I used a cluster of them on top instead of bows, they looked really good!

glenthebattleostrich · 09/11/2014 18:29

You lot are a bad influence!!

Just ordered the Asda Frozen book for DD, I did buy her the story in poundland today, they also had Finding Nemo, Peter Pan and another one I can't remember sorry. They had some lovely Christmas stories too, we picked up the snow queen for Christmas Eve to add to our collection.

PinkAndBlueBedtimeScares · 09/11/2014 18:30

Okay, I'm after a really nice and as cheap as possible! brushed cotton double duvet cover in a Christmassy (but not Father Christmas kinda Christmassy) print.. Help?!
In town today the cheapest I could find was £15 :/

FrantasticO · 09/11/2014 18:41

Thanks chocolatewombat Just ordered the Jacqueline Wilson set Flowers

pink I bought a brushed cotton duvet set in primark
£20 for kingsize, it's a silvery grey with snow flakes.
It feels lovely!
Also had lots of cozy cushions to match.

They had red tartan festive ones in brushed cotton with matching quilted throws.
Quality of mine is actually very good!
Good luck...bedding has to be comfy! Xmas Grin

FrantasticO · 09/11/2014 18:47

Oh, if anyone has any cheapish present ideas for a 10 yr old girl I'd be delighted!
Her pile when wrapping was considerably smaller than her siblings!
must not buy for the sake of it mantra is not kicked in yet, lamma, lamma!
Inner zen was nearly found after we wrapped all the bargains, then noticed the 10 yr olds was half of the younger kids, oh dear.
I can feel the twitch coming on!
Xmas Grin

newera search on ebay for cheap ribbons and stuff -

curling ribbon 500m - this link takes you to an ebay search for curling ribbon which is the thin ribbon that you can use the edge of a scissors to curl. In shops you can usually get rolls of about 10m for anywhere between 50p and a couple of pounds, however on ebay you can get rolls that are 500m long (and will last forever!) from about £2.50, in a wide range of colours. (Search is sorted by price so the first few entries are for odd colours but scroll down and you'll soon see loads more)

Alternatively florist's poly ribbon can be got in rolls of 100yards (91m) from £2.50 too - it's 2 inches wide and rippable so that you can do either big or small bows and also use the edge of a scissors to twizzle it into curls. You might need to search a couple of times to get the colour you at want the cheapest price - some people list it as florists ribbon, others as poly ribbon, whilst some list it in imperial measurements (100yds, 2" wide) whereas others are metric (91m, 50mm wide)

However both last a long time - I made an investment in a few colours a few years ago and all are still looking almost full (I have the wide in red and green, great for christmas as well as in general, and the thin in red, silver, blue, purple, green and yellow - covers christmas, easter, all sorts of birthdays). My mother used the same florists ribbon rolls for ribbons when I was little - I swear, some of them are still the same ones 20 years later Grin I also mix and match several colours and/or thicknesses on a single parcel which looks nice and because buying it by the 500m is so much cheaper than by the 10m you can use it and use plenty without feeling like you are spending a fortune on ribbon to be ripped off! It's also great for stringing up christmas decorations etc or when you need some string for fancy dress costumes to tie bits together or on (I like easy things for ds's costumes when i discover they are needed last minute for school etc) and so many more uses!

Keepcalmanddrinkwine · 09/11/2014 18:58

I'm padding out my Tween's pile with a dressing gown, slippers and PJs, toiletries they need anyway and clothes. Cushions always look big wrapped too.

PinkAndBlueBedtimeScares · 09/11/2014 19:07

That's so annoying! I was in Primark and assumed they would be crap and feel horrid Angry back to Primark for me!
However, I very nearly bought one of the £10 extra large throws for our bed, but it was a bit thin, went to one of the 'sells lots of crap like fake flowers and boxes' shops and found a wonderfully thick and soft throw in beautiful light grey for £15.. I'm fairly sure it's the same size as my living room... Grin

FrantasticO · 09/11/2014 19:07

Thanks keepcalmanddrinkwine
May do a pamper bed set with cushions...
Will update any bargains I find!

FrantasticO · 09/11/2014 19:11

Duvet set was lovely, throws not so much.
The fleecy ones shed bits of fluff, very annoyingly!
The quilted throw for "dressing" the bed is lovely!
Priced brushed cotton in b and m. Same price but really thin!
The cushions I got in primark for my bed are lovely too!
giving away the fact I love my bed a hit too much!
Happy shopping!

ipswichwitch · 09/11/2014 19:18

Someone mentioned ciate nail polish. I got 3 manicure sets (for different fancy effects) that come well packaged for between £3 and £5 each from Fragrance Direct
here

Reastie · 09/11/2014 19:20

I did some wrapping today too, getting there slowly. Just a few more bits to get definitely nothing more for DD though, oh no

Someone's probably already posted this but Amazon have the large boxset of Barbie DVDs as their Deal of the Day, I've had it in my basket for ages at £45 but it's down to £21.99 and free delivery. Here

Also, last year, some kind Waitrose shopper posted when Green & Blacks mini choc bar sets were reduced to £2.99 from the more usual £5-6 price. Has anyone seem a similar offer yet please or can you keep your eyes peeled for us. Thanks!
