The joy that is Home Bargains!!! They had lovely boxed Kimmidolls £2 each (more than £10 on amazon) as well as lovely key rings for 99p or £1.50. Lovely stocking fillers for little girls.

Also at least 8 Elsa toddler dolls in stock!!!

bryonyelf · 11/11/2014 13:25

Does anyone know anything about football (I am a rugby person). DS has started to play a little. He wants a goalkeepers strip and some of the really bright trainers lots of kids have - I think they might be astro turf ones - are they ok for indoor play - he won't be out doors for a long time yet. Also, where can I buy a goalkeepers kit? Non UK team branded - we are ok with teams from abroad so Spain etc. Thank you

Pikkewyn · 11/11/2014 13:29

Bryonyelf - Sports direct do football stuff quite cheaply. The go goalie kit which is totally unbranded (flouro green or yellow) as well as gloves and trainers.

Pikkewyn · 11/11/2014 13:29

Sports Direct trainers

PizzaPasta · 11/11/2014 13:31

Anyone who's been to ikea recently, notice if there were any christmas goats?

Also, ikea are doing the buy a £25 christmas tree and get a £20 voucher thing again. I just had a leaflet through the door.

TheFantasticMrsFox · 11/11/2014 13:33

Ooh yes, the horror that is Sports Direct trainers
It wasn't as if the Clark's ones weren't bad enough- thankfully DS plays hockey and their shoes are a touch more muted, on the whole :o

I was a brownie leader but never got pressies sulk

Where can I find personalised flannels and mini alcoholic bottles?

Elizabethtailored · 11/11/2014 13:45

I am looking for fun flannels and/or sponges for stockings (kids).

TrisMas · 11/11/2014 13:48

I called home bargains today and they don't have any elsa dolls in stock where we are. They also don't know what they will be getting in but they suspect that they will get some more. They suggested that I call each day at midday which will give them time to take receipt of the delivery and determine what stock they've received and they will put me one back. Even if I don't manage to get one, I thought their customer service was fab!

curlingandtwirling · 11/11/2014 13:48

I'm going real life actual shopping on Saturday and I'm starting to panic.

What if I don't get the very best bargain? What if I miss out on the biggest discount available? More importantly, what the hell am I supposed to be buying?

I have been so organised this year. Thanks Flowers to everyone, especially Reastie.

I still have DH to buy for, and no ideas so far, so bring on Thread 17

Notso we have Take and Play and we've noticed that the older sets are better quality than the newer ones.

They worked better and had more detail to them. I think the newer ones are badly put together and they don't actually fold away as well to take anywhere. The Blue Mountain Mystery quarry one is a pain for packing away.

The ones I would recommend are:

Tidmouth Sheds
Cranky at the Docks
The Dieselworks
Misty Island
The Engine Wash - I think that's what it's called, it's like a big figure 8 with a wash house attached to it and it's very good for making a big bit of track very easily but still being a bit more interesting that just plain track in a straight line.
Colin at the Wharf - smaller sets that can join up to track or bigger sets.
Percy and the Mail Delivery - smaller set as before.

Sets that are okay are:

Around the Rails - small but quite good
Knapford Station - Not my favourite, It's bulky and I don't think it's interesting enough, but it's alright.
The Lift and Repair Shop
Sodor Search and Rescue

Sets that I don't think are worth it:

The Shark Exhibit Set - it's wobbly, doesn't work that well, seems a bit pointless and the wagon that catches the shark isn't actually on the track.

Blue Mountain Quarry Climb - hard to fit together, hard to get the train on the magnet, is in separate pieces when taken apart so not great for taking anywhere really.

The new version of Sodor Shipping Co - was the first one we really thought the quality had dropped with, it's just somehow…lumpier and less finished looking than the earlier ones.

Any of the newer ones after these.

As Elvish says, eBay is fantastic for second hand but good condition Take and Play and I would strongly recommend you buy older sets rather than the newer ones as they are sturdier, better made and more detailed.

The older trains are better quality than the newer ones as well.

I know most people who do advent calendars will already have theirs but lidl have some lovely ones in for £4.99. I got stockings on a ribbon, but there was also cones with reindeer on (felt/tartan) The quality is ok-won't fall apart but not mega-thick.

Bonus for me, I've raided my presents bag and I've already got enough stuff to nearly full it Blush for 2dc Shock

Astroturfs are football trainers that you can wear indoors or on astroturf. You can also wear them instead of ordinary trainers - since DS got into football he doesn't have any normal trainers just astro turfs.

Football boots with studs are a whole other minefield and best avoided for as long as poss as whatever you get will be bloody wrong [mutters]
