We need a new thread to continue the very successful countdowns of 2013 and 2012.

And before anyone does the Hmm face (or Xmas Hmm face ) take a look at some of the 'Panic Threads' at the end of December when people were "Twitching" and stressing.

Organisation is key.

(I just need to find somewhere that'll work out how many days it is Grin )

Just ordered DD's main present. Had a voucher for fifty quid off when you spend over £100 from a catalogue - her phone was £150 so massive saving. Well pleased! Also had another voucher for 20 off when you spend 50 from another catalogue - the shoes she's been lusting after were reduced from 90 to 50 but I've actually paid 30 for them. £240 worth of stuff for £130! Grin Very proud of myself. Even prouder that DD is now completely finished apart from a couple of little stocking fillery things. Only DH to buy for now!

I love Christmas Eve!! I think I prefer it to the big day itself - am I still allowed on this thread?!? 70s are you a Christmas traditions thread this year?

I have ordered loads of stuff from studio catalogue so patiently waiting for it to arrive. I had planned making a garland but instead ordered a pre-lit one for the stairs - I officially love the Studio catalogue!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/08/2014 08:31

YY lots of people prefer Christmas Eve, I think it's the anticipation of the day when you can officially 'start' enjoying Christmas before the mad rush. (But there will be no mad rushes as we'll all be organised Wink )
My Mum used to prefer Boxing Day she said, but that was just because it was all over and done with. She used to say (to us DC) "Oh I wish it was all over. I wish I could go to sleep and wake up and it was Boxing Day. "
It's not as though she did anything over Christmas. It was either a family friend or me that cooked. And she didn't put up decorations either Hmm
DH reckons this is why I'm a tad Christmas obsessed, to make up for the childhood Christmases.

I used to get the Studio catalogue when my DC were at Nursery, they got us to order through them and they got a commission. I bought a little resin gingerbread house sweet jar one year (and other things I can't recall) and some bath sheets that I still use (my youngest is 12 now, so they're over 10 years old)

There will be a Traditions Thread of course.
There will be more than one.

I will (hopefully) be recovering from gallbladder surgery in mid Nov/Dec depending on when I get a date, so I plan to lard on the sofa with Christmas magazines and plan. Lots of lists. Smile
And internet shopping.

Good luck for the surgery 70. Fab excuse to put your feet up in the run up Grin

Mentioned this on another fred but QVC have their Early Bird Christmas event from midnight tonight. Probably won't buy anything but will love cosying up on the sofa with DD and a hot chocolate watching it. The weather looks to be utterly bobbins tomorrow so good excuse to stay in and cocoon Smile

JerseySpud · 24/08/2014 10:54

I Love the week run up to Christmas

The christmas food shop, sil and i traditionally go together to do it

The last minute present buying shop

Visiting one sil christmas eve. C.E Hampers

But my run up starts on the 1st of December and i make a month of it.

Christmas is my ultimate time of the year

50ShadesofXmas · 24/08/2014 18:45

70is not at all Xmas related but Colpermin and peppermint tea are your friends! I had my gb out just over a year ago (best thing ever) but the shoulder pain from anaesthesia was something else but much better once I got Colpermin! X

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/08/2014 22:39

I'll stock up on all my pain relief type things when they give me a date (I bought Deflatine for the colonoscopy, didn't need it. And I have some peppermint tea in the pantry) Smile

I looked at the weather - tomorrow heavy rain from 7am til 3am Tuesday Sad . BH Monday sigh.

I am searching for bedding online at the moment, just loooking .
DH and I have Primark flannel sheets for Christmas, might get some for DS too.
I'll be watching QVC (I am at the moment) . I bought a CozeeHome duvet set a couple of years back but DH didn't like it, DD loves it for winter.

My DH would love a "Whisky Miniature Advent Calender" Grin I'm sure they exist but they'd be £££.

No, we have little robot and star stickers behind the clouds and doors etc Smile

So.....................how many days now until Christmas 2014?

I caved Sad and i've created 2 monsters in doing so.

I bought Yankee candles when I promised myself I wouldn't. Now the kids have even got their own. It's come out of the car savings so it's nothing that I will regret, just means I'll have to wait a little longer for the car.

DS got a Candy Cane Lane jar which is lit in the livingroom and smells divine. He's got an Apple Pie votive going in the kitchen which is just heaven.

DD has a lemon one and a strawberry one going, she also got a small candy cane one.

I got Amber moon, Icicles, Christmas garland and some small berry ring things that go around the bottom of candle holders and the advent candles to go in them. I did get a loads of points and money off though. To justify it to myself:

They are christmas ones, I was going to get them anyway and I haven't spent a penny for nearly 2 months (apart from the odd bit of food and milk) and the last time I got anything candle related was back in.....before my exams so , May? ish...?

The kids have some lovely jumpers and long sleeved tops in Debenhams now. Boys clothes are lovely at the moment. Girls clothes for 13-14 year olds (who's not a fashion freak) are a nightmare to find.

Aww xalyssx how old is your DS? He looks lovely . I love the Calender too (are you able to hide it until December? )

Smiles I was perusing the festive Yankees as well (I love the robin picture on Icicles I bought the Wild Fig and I'm loving the Ginger Dusk one )

My favourite Festive ones are any apple ( Red Apple Wreath, Apple MacIntosh) and Sparkling Cinnamon, Vanilla Cupcake or Vanilla Cookie.
And Salted Caramel (I need to see if that one is still available......)
I bought a Sparkling Cinnamon Reed Diffuser to sit on top of the toilet cupboard Smile

I DID IT!

I've finished the hallway.

Just a bit of trimming and decorators caulk, a tiny bit of painting and it's done! It was the main job I wanted done before Christmas and I've done it.

Even MADE a new coat rack and figured out how to programe the door bell and that's all up and running too! I've even, get this....changed the lights from the ones that hang down to flush ones!

I've got a mirror and a picture to put up for the final finishing touches and it's looking lovely. It's a wipable wallpaper too so ds's grimy fingers won't make such a mess.

The new garland will look amazing in a lovely new hall.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/08/2014 00:10

Well done Smiles - garland will look gorgeous
