We need a new thread to continue the very successful countdowns of 2013 and 2012.

And before anyone does the Hmm face (or Xmas Hmm face ) take a look at some of the 'Panic Threads' at the end of December when people were "Twitching" and stressing.

Organisation is key.

(I just need to find somewhere that'll work out how many days it is Grin )

The nights are drawing in I noticed yesterday.

It's a lot cooler too...autumn is on it's way!!!!!!! I bloody love autumn.

Anyway...

YANKEE CANDLES

Winters collection as far as I can see will be:

Angles wings
Icicles
Candy cane
Christmas wreath

Who-hoo!

and...Lego Starwars Calendar this year will have...

Darth vader as Santa and a Christmas tree droid as the special one offs.

Smilesandpiles · 13/08/2014 15:42

Angles? Angels.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/08/2014 20:33

I noticed Monday night was colder and I get night sweats so usually roast at night.

I'm burning Yankee Ginger Haze at the moment but I'm going to look out for the festive ones.
I love Autumn too, my favourite season, you really notice when the clocks go back too.

We sat in the garden by candlelight last night, (oh how romantic we are when DD is visiting Granny's house!). But it was noticeably cooler, and there are signs of autumn starting to appear in the garden too.

I asked DH what he wants for Christmas this morning, as he is ridiculously hard to buy for (and whatever he does want, he buys himself!). He doesn't know yet, but the only thing he does want/need at the moment, he'll need to get a lot sooner (his noise-cancelling earphones are broken, and he travels overnight every fortnight, so really needs them).

Smilesandpiles · 14/08/2014 10:20

We're watching all 4 Home Alone movies today so having a massive Christmas fix.

First one is on now and I didn't even suggest it. DS did!

We finalised our Christmas plans yesterday, my dad, step mum and 2 aunts are coming to is, as is my mil so full house for us - feeding 9! My 2 aunties and my mil are all the same age and get on really well and me and my step mum have become really close recently, dad and dh get on really well too so all is well.

And I've bought 2 Christmas presents! A Thomas and friends adventure castle for ds2, reduced from £38.99 to £14.99 in argos and my friends cousin is selling an Xbox 360, 5 games, 2 controllers and 2 headsets for £60!

Feeling a little bit festive today :-)

Smilesandpiles · 15/08/2014 11:08

OK.

Due to some bastard hacking into my paypal account, very nearly leaving me £100's worse off (just as well I check emails and bank account every morning, and a little bit of savings to cover it should the worst happen) I no longer have a paypal account as I don't think it's safe enough.

(obscure password, often changed, no dodgy links clicked on, no one else has access etc...baffled how they managed it)

Just be careful everyone, it's not as safe as they make it out to be.

Internet shopping is no longer for me. That has scared me, so all shopping will be done in person from now on.

Smilesandpiles · 15/08/2014 13:25

OMG OMG OMG...

I've just thought of another Christmas tradition I could start this year.

Every year I buy a tree from this place..www.thechristmastreefarm.co.uk/shop-detail.asp?prd=Supreme-Fraser-Fir-Real-Christmas-Trees&prodid=1966&catid=310
and get it delivered.

(that's the tree I get too)

I'm learning to drive and should have passed my test and got a car by then.. I can take the kids to the farm and choose it ourselves!

Bought the first thing for my Christmas food/drink cupboard today. Co-Op were selling their version of Bailey's (it's lovely, we had it last year - made with whiskey and 17%, unlike a lot of pretend Bailey's) for £3.35 for a 70cl bottle. I bought four and am currently checking one of them to make sure they're still delicious

Smiles my DH had an account hacked (not sure which one, think it was Bank rather than Paypal) he got a call because they'd bought £200+ worth of iTunes which raised an alert.

He got it sorted, hopefully you will too, quicker the better.
Saddest thing was our DD thought that someone had got into the house to steal her dad's card. It took alot to reassure her that it was all done online.

Smilesandpiles · 16/08/2014 13:00

It was sorted very quickly thanks to the banks quick actions (I'll never slag off my bank again). By the end of the day the money was back in my account.

Paypal however...bloody nightmare to deal with. Having to google a different phone number to get through to someone didn't help.

Guitargirl · 16/08/2014 21:32

I went to Selfridges Christmas shop today, it was quite busy considering it's August. I bought a card and 2 decorations of the DC's initials which the elf will probably bring. Also bought a few things for DD's stocking in the stationery department. It definitely feels quite Septembery weather in London now. Hurray!

Hello everyone.

For the past few weeks I've been thinking about getting shopping vouchers/gift cards for nieces/nephews.

They would love this. I feel it is:

A. A very easy option
B. Takes away from my "Christmas shopping experience"
C. Is a very, very easy option.
D. See A and C
E. See B. Boo hoo.

I think I am decided on this option plus a small personalised (i.e. name on) gift.

Oh and I'm not sure if it's been mentioned but Clinton cards are now selling Yankee Candle Christmas samplers in box sets.
25% off.

caramelwaffle · 18/08/2014 11:44

Ok. Have caught up with thread. Ophelia Thank you for the tip on the co-op "Baileys" and reminder to start stocking up now whilst prices are good.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/08/2014 19:30

caramel my DS will be 15 in December and he's a flipping nightmare to buy for so it's tricky to think of Birthday then Christmas presents.
We buy him "Game" vouchers, Microsoft points , and one of his favourite, a nice new £50 note, tied in a ribbon , in a gift box.
He kept the £50 in his money jar til April/May when I put it in his bank account .

My DD had a Primark gift card one year, New Look last year.

I like M&S gift cards then I can buy something I've been eyeing up for me .

Another idea I had in mind was buy a few (Boots/Next/Argos/M&S) as those emergency gifts.. If you don;t need them, spend them in January Grin

It's 128 days until Christmas Day. I usually run the countdown to Christmas Eve so 127 days to go.

Helgathehairy · 18/08/2014 20:16

Sorry! Wrong thread!

I got the original number from Xmasclock.com but we might have lost a day along the way somehow.

It'll all pan out - I'm sure someone on telly will let us know when it's 100.

Smilesandpiles · 19/08/2014 08:55

Depending on where in the world that site is based, it's either 128 or 127 days....

For the UK it's 128

wwp.greenwichmeantime.co.uk/wise/fun/xmas.htm

Sad Was hoping we were a day closer for a minute there.
