Mine have about 35 each Shock 10 of those are stocking fillers of things around a pound nothing more then a fiver.

I haven't spent loads but as they're older and its things like dvds and ps3 games it really doesn't look like much compared to previous years of bikes and large similar presents.

dd the oldest has about 11* they where all priced from 15 pounds upwards

middle dc got 11 also

the lil one my baby 6 weeks has got alot more llike 20 but some i bought used though rest new so cost alot less then the girls presents

WhomessweetWhomes · 18/12/2013 20:16

As always I am utterly baffled by the quantity of presents some people buy their dc. 35???!!! Is that really not including ones from other relatives? Mine usually get about 3 plus a stocking with tiny things, chocolate coins etc.

lolalooloo · 18/12/2013 20:34

ds 1 has about 30 plus stocking
ds2 about 45 - 50 plus stocking
dd - 45- 50 plus stocking

step ds about 30 plus stocking

and step dd still working on

Luggage16 · 18/12/2013 20:40

those with 30+ and a stocking, what kinds of things does it include? I'm curious more than anything.
Our 15 each includes things like £5 t shirts and £3 stationary sets as well as bigger things like playmobil and schleich dragons. Part of me thinks some people are maybe comparing different things - so someone with a santa sack rather than stocking might say they have 5 gifts plus stocking but the stocking would have things like the stationary set and t shirts in, others might do a tiny stocking with only very small gifts in and therefore their downstairs pile might be bigger iyswim

MincedMuffPies · 18/12/2013 20:46

No it's not including relatives Xmas Grin My dm is getting them panto tickets and a board game. It is including things I have bought like hairbands and finger lights, fart whistles and light up shoe laces. Its not all proper presents. My DB has a present each and my Dsis, my Dauntie will get them something nice each she usually goes for nice book sets and outfits, my Dnan has got them about 10 presents each inc a microscope, bingo game, remote controlled helicopter and other various bits and bobs.

I have never had a christmas with only 3 presents so I really couldn't be that stingy with my dc, christmas in my house (and everyone is different) is all about spoiling ourselves with gifts, food, booze, laughs, friends, and that really lovely warm christmassy feeling I get from all of that.

Erm... I haven't counted. Are you supposed to keep count?!

Wingdingdong · 18/12/2013 20:48

I haven't counted but I'd think 35 probably isn't much over, if at all, if we're counting everything (presents from GPs, aunts & uncles etc). They have a couple of big presents each from us (Playmobil/Brio), plus a couple of little ones. The stockings have loads of little things in though (Playmobil /individually wrapped Happyland figures / dolls for the dolls' house / hair clips / pencils). I've done a lot of set-splitting and individual wrapping - but the DC are 4 and nearly 2, so it's all about quantity and wrapping paper.

I would guess that when the DC are a little older, they will have fewer, but bigger, presents. I probably wouldn't be able to get away with individually wrapping four scented rubbers from a 50p packet for an older DC Grin.

cathers · 18/12/2013 20:53

Mine have about 35 each.
That's split btw 15 to go in a stocking- stuff like bath bombs, CD, book,
10 to go in santas sack- things that were on their Father Christmas list,
And 10 from us.

Dillydollydaydream · 18/12/2013 21:04

WhomessweetWhomes · 18/12/2013 21:17

Yy to enjoying food, family, booze, friends and presents, and to the warm Christmassy feeling. Just quite glad I don't need to spend thousands of pounds to do all of that!

WhomessweetWhomes · 18/12/2013 21:19

Bloody hell lolalooloo. That would be about ten years' worth of Christmas presents in my house.

lolalooloo · 18/12/2013 21:24

the younger ones have more to open but no where near spent as much as I did on him 17 yr olds are expensive trust me I miss the days of toys from argos lol

ImNotReallyHere · 18/12/2013 21:28

Another minimalist shopper here. One main present. 2 smaller presents. A onesie and 3 books. And a stocking with about 10 little things - some v cheap - finger lights, chocolate coins etc and some a bit more - electric toothbrush and winter hat.

And my DH says I go overboard. I swear if anything happens to me the kids would get no stocking ( he's not English so not a tradition for him) and they would get one thing each!

They do get another 6 or 7 presents from family and neighbours though and seem happy enough with it all. ( even the weird presents from MIL and next door)

ImNotReallyHere · 18/12/2013 21:34

Cantheyseeme - Don't like to judge as everyone is different and everyone's circumstances are different but ur comment did make me laugh. Couldn't have put it better myself .

MincedMuffPies · 18/12/2013 21:42

notreallyhere, I wouldn't say 17 presents are minimal Xmas Grin

Wandastartup · 18/12/2013 22:11

Mine have a big present each ( DD1 kindle fire,DD 2 roller skates) from us & a stocking from Santa with gloves, pants, bath bombs, a book, felt tips and chocolate each.
That's it. Am contemplating buying DD2 another doll from DD1 as she's written it on her recent Santa letter.
That is I think more than enough and they will be thrilled. How do people end up buying so much?

CalamitouslyWrong · 18/12/2013 22:23

I wrapped everything up but didn't count.

They're each getting one big present (Star Wars lego for DS1 and the playmobil dinosaurs volcano for DS2) plus some books. DS2 has 31 (!) books, but only because the book people were selling a pack of 30 horrid Henry books for £15, which is cheaper than buying 4/5 separate books would have been, plus the Pokemon annual he desperately wanted. They're wrapped as 5 packages though. DS1 has about 7 or 8 I think. We tend to think of that as 2 presents for DS1 (Lego + books) and 3 for DS2 (playmobil + books + annual), regardless how many packages there are.

If I count how many packages are in the stockings, it will come to a very big number. But that's because I have wrapped up individual lindors and pairs of socks. Neither of them will consider socks proper presents. I'll wrap a couple of satsumas for a laugh on Christmas Eve too. DS2 has about 7 actual presents in there (felt pens, the little £1 pokemon capsules you get in the machine at sainsbos, that kind of tat things he likes) and DS1 has 4 'presents' in there (videogame/anime themed tat like key rings, a small figure, cards). It's like a lucky dip of small packages, and they love seeking out the cool stuff and laughing at socks and pants.

GreenShadowsOfTheChristmasTree · 18/12/2013 23:38

I find this a revelation and to be honest a bit scary.

Lolalooloo - do you really think your DS needs all that ? An iphone at 17? As someone else said, it is several years Christmases and birthdays worth in this house.

DS1 (21) is getting money towards a 3DS (about half of it - other relatives will also give money for the rest)
DS2 (17) is getting a gaming mouse. Fullstop.
DS3 (14) is getting a cheaper gaming mouse and some pyjamas and fluffy slippers. The last 2 are also getting a DVD to share.

Do you all think I am mean and a cheap skate ?
This is probably the least we've spent on them for a few years, but they have all had a fairly expensive birthday present this year (or will next year in DS3's case).

youaremychocolatecake · 18/12/2013 23:56

Every year I do the same. Promise myself I won't go mad. Buy sensibly. Get it out and think 'awww it's not enough' go out, buy loads more. Other people turn up with presents. Looks round Xmas night and feel physically sick. Start planning what we can give away to charity. Spend January skint and in need of charity myself. Viscous cycle! Confused

MincedMuffPies · 19/12/2013 00:00

green are they not getting chocolates and socks ect on top? Really just one present?

SummerRain · 19/12/2013 00:03

Big joint present from Santa, and a small thing each plus about 5 bits in the stockings each (chocs, a small toy etc)

Books, pjs and selection box each for xmas eve.

Their main present from us is a rucksack filled with bits (sports stuff for ds1, art stiff for ds2 and girly bits for dd) so hard to count up really but it'll be wrapped as one present. Then 3 smaller presents each from us.

So 10 and a third each if you count the rucksacks as one gift.
