At what age did you stop giving DC a stocking?

DSS is with us this year for Christmas. He is 17. I think as this is his last year of being a child, at least officially, he should have a stocking. DH thinks not as he is too old. He is getting one as I am ignoring DH on his one, and I think DS will appreciate it, but I am curious what everyone else does?

Erm...mil still does me and dp a stocking. We are in our late twenties.

My DM still does one for me, and I'm pushing 50.

And with my siblings, we do one for her and she's in her 80s.

I won't stop doing them for my DC, for as long as we see each other at Christmastide. Eldest is mid-teen, and no way would he want us to stop.

mumbaisapphirebluespruce · 06/12/2013 11:54

My DM still does one for me and my sibling and we are in our thirties! She said she would stop when grand kids came along but that hasn't happened so far!

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 06/12/2013 11:55

My mother has always done me a stocking and I'm 47! Since my 20s I've done one for each of my parents too. Nice foodie things, toiletries, books, CDs. We don't get each other main presents but really enjoy the thoughtful things that go in the stockings.

My 3DCs love their stockings; especially DD1 who is 12. She says its her favourite thing about Christmas. I can't imagine ever not doing her one.

It's lovely that you are doing one for DSS

woooooooobooo · 06/12/2013 12:04

My dds are all still under 8 but I think I'll keep doing them forever. If not then certainly until they are married or have dc of their own. My mum retired this year and for the first time in many years is throwing herself into the festivities. She's made all her dgc stockings for her house. I am almost 40 and would love a stocking

insanityscatching · 06/12/2013 12:25

I still do stockings for my dc, eldest is 26. Any time I've mentioned stopping them I've been met with protests so think I won't be stopping any day soon.

ExcuseTypos · 06/12/2013 12:30

Mine are 23 and 19 and they still get one. I have suggested stopping them for the past 3 years but they get quite upset! I'm sure they'd get over it if I did stop, but as they like them, I'd prefer not to.

C4ro · 06/12/2013 12:31

I'm nearly 40. My parents still give me a (little) stocking each year.

HeirToTheIronThrone · 06/12/2013 12:33

My DM told me last week I won't be getting one this year for the first time. I am 31 tomorrow... Sob.

GingerPCatt · 06/12/2013 12:37

Everyone in our family gets a stocking including pets. They get treats or a toy in theirs. Adults get stationary nice food and other little bits. DS gets sweets and little toys. All the adults contribute bits to the stockings so everyone gets a surprise.

MrsCharlesBrandon · 06/12/2013 12:40

I got a stocking till i left home at 22. AFAIK DB got one till he moved out at 25 too.

I do one for my Nan and she's 94!

BertieBowtiesAreCool · 06/12/2013 12:41

I had one until I left home! I don't get them now though... they should be for Christmas morning so unless you're sleeping there in the house then it's not right. I wouldn't be exchanging them under the tree. In our family anyway :)

curlew · 06/12/2013 12:42

Why would you stop? Sad

NigellasLeftNostril · 06/12/2013 12:45

ofc he should still get a stocking, mine are 15 and i have no intention of stopping anytime soon, even if i cannot afford a 'big' present, putting the santa stocking together is such fun and they really love it!

curlew · 06/12/2013 12:47

ofc=Oh Father Christmas?

I think at 18 by mutual agreement. My mum was great at stockings but I knew it took a lot of work to find all the little bits (much easier these days).

We still got some stocking type bits and bobs with our tree presents though.

littleblackno · 06/12/2013 12:59

I do one for my mum and exh (Yes really!) who will be here on xmas day as well as the kids. My mum will do me one too.

Saminthemiddle · 06/12/2013 13:01

Don't stop! I still do one for my DCs in their early 20s.

Lilymaid · 06/12/2013 13:02

Both DSs in 20s - still get stockings. DH and I are somewhat older - we still give each other stockings. I love getting little/cheap stuff together for them.

rainbowfeet · 06/12/2013 13:03

I don't think I'll ever stop!!

I never had one as a kid so that's probably why I'm religious about doing them for my 2 !! Smile

MrsBungleScare · 06/12/2013 13:03

I had a stocking up until my mum died when I was 30! I don't see why you need to stop.

TheHOHOHOnlyPink · 06/12/2013 13:03

My mum stopped when I was about 15, and was really hurt as my 2 siblings are much younger than me and they both got one. Really felt left out (but there are ishoos).

I will never stop doing them for my dc. I do one for my dh every year and he loves it.

soimpressed · 06/12/2013 13:04

I loved getting a stocking - best bit of Christmas. I had an agreement with my mum that she could stop doing one when I got to 40 Grin

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 06/12/2013 13:09

Mine are 16, 18 and 20 - and dh is 50 - and they all get stockings!

I think they know it is me, though.....
