At what age did you stop giving DC a stocking?

DSS is with us this year for Christmas. He is 17. I think as this is his last year of being a child, at least officially, he should have a stocking. DH thinks not as he is too old. He is getting one as I am ignoring DH on his one, and I think DS will appreciate it, but I am curious what everyone else does?

As long as they wake up in my house on christmas morning they will get a stocking, it would be awful not to.

My dc's have always got their stockings and opened them on our bed in the morning before we go down to see if the big man has been Xmas Grin

This still continues even though they are now 25, 20 and 17 - the bed creaks a bit though, 5 adults, three cats and loads of stocking stuff, it's wonderful.

I stopped when my youngest DC reached 19. Thing is.... it used to take SO long to find all the stuff ... they used to have huge stockings full of bitsf and it got harder and harder to find things to put in it... it ended up knickers, deodourant, body spray and anything funny I could lay my hands on.

Yes, they kicked up a fuss when I said no more BUT they used to open them on our bed on xmas morning and both roll around laughing at some of the stuff I bought them... whilst grateful up to a point, it is very different to have a 19 and 22 yr old sat on your bed opening twiddly bits and bobs! Now I concentrate on what I buy them for proper presents and I much prefer it.

Sad that you stopped that- I hope mine will still want to sit with us and giggle over stockings when they are that age......

I even do stockings for relatives who stay (and one for my mum, when we spent christmas with her). No-one is left out.

Blimey, lots of people keeping it going well into adulthood then. Now I am feeling bad that I was thinking this would be the last year! Grin

Ahem. The last year I got a stocking was when I was 35. Blush

The only reason my mum stopped then was because I had a baby, so it moved into the next generation IYSWIM.

I don't think anyone is ever too old for a stocking!

I do one for the kids and also for DH. My mum does everyone a stocking if we're visiting her at Christmas time. The PILs don't seem to do stockings at all, so DH doesn't seem to understand why they matter. He does enjoy opening his stocking though.

CalamitouslyWrong · 06/12/2013 13:52

SDTG: I would do a stocking for anyone that stayed at mine for Christmas too. Everyone needs a stocking on Christmas morning.

ApplesinmyPocket · 06/12/2013 14:00

My daughters 35 and 24 will be getting stockings. Well, if they've been good of course, but only Father Christmas knows that.

MinesAPintOfTea · 06/12/2013 16:30

DM stopped for me the first year dh slept over on Christmas Eve (until then she was still putting it on the end of my bed). I was about 20-21..

Snog · 06/12/2013 16:33

nickeldonkeyonadustyroad · 06/12/2013 16:37

my mum still does one for us. I'm 37. she also adds on grandchildren and our dhs too.

Greensleeves · 06/12/2013 16:43

Stop giving him a stocking? Shock

We all get one in this house. Including Grandad who is 72. DH and I did one for each other before we even had kids. Little, affectionate stuff and favourite sweets, nuts, tangerine etc. I couldn't enjoy Christmas without stockings!

impty · 06/12/2013 16:45

Mine still get stockings (16 +12). They open theirs after lunch as they are hung in the dining room fire place. I love finding little treats for them.

I think I stopped getting a stocking at about 11.

nickeldonkeyonadustyroad · 06/12/2013 17:00

essential stocking items are:
an apple
a satsuma
some nuts
chocolate coins
a gift

thegreylady · 06/12/2013 17:01

My ds is 43 and dd is 39. My dsc are 44 and 41. All still get stockings as do their dps and dc.

Impatientwino · 06/12/2013 18:15

I love my stocking and I am 35! My mum does one for DH and my DS as well.

DHs mum also does this so we get two each! One on Christmas Day and one on Boxing Day! Result! greedy

shootingstar1234 · 06/12/2013 18:57

No stocking should ever have an upper age limit ;)

WaitMonkey · 06/12/2013 19:12

STOP!!!??Shock Shock Shock

Rubybrazilianwax · 06/12/2013 21:19

Im 36,I still get a stocking! Although dh took over stocking duties when we got married and not just the christmas stocking nudge nudge wink wink

blacktreaclecat · 06/12/2013 21:26

I do DH (38) one as well as DS (1). DH and I get a joint one from my mum for Boxing Day.
DS will always get one from me, when he grows up and has a partner I may do them a joint one.

Elsiequadrille · 06/12/2013 21:31

I would get one.

My 16 year old DC still does, and I think she'd be cross/sad if I didn't. Plus., the DC made a stocking for me last year. It was lovely and thoughtful. I've revised my opinion that they're just for children!

Heathcliff27 · 06/12/2013 21:34

Still do stockings here, ds 18 still getting one

Chottie · 07/12/2013 05:38

My mother did a stocking for me until she died when I was 49, I thought that would be the end of stockings for me, but DD took over Xmas Smile

I do stockings for DH, DD, DS and DD's BF and I've given DD a few bits to put in DGS stockings too. We love stockings in our house Xmas Smile
