What would you like your husband to buy you for Christmas?

All ideas welcome - I'm sure I'm not the only husband struggling for ideas!

Thanks

This is why I am crap at buying for a man:

What's a decent non fiction book? I bought Bradley Wiggins book last year. Does this tick the box?

Action or sci fi movie…nah wouldn't have a clue

Pub quiz beer vouchers. These exist?

Tickets to footie… never bought one in my life

MinesAPintOfTea · 01/12/2013 19:55

MrsMarigold I don't expect a lot, I've given a fantasy wishlist to someone who didn't state a budget.

And i'm another hater of toiletries: is either what I buy myself (in which case its not much of a treat) or its not what I prefer and will not be used.

Phalenopsis · 01/12/2013 19:58

If my partner buys me toiletries one more time, I'm going to whack a funnel in his gob and pour them in it! Grin

I've no idea what he's buying me but I've seen him making list after list, going out and telling me to close my eyes whilst he hides what he has bought. [tchgrin]

alexpolistigers · 01/12/2013 20:01

I had no idea that pub quiz beer vouchers existed either!

I know my dh would like some decent non fiction books, too, that's a pretty good one.

We usualy give each other a bottle of something too, something we can share together, like a really good wine, or a liqueur.

sunbathe · 01/12/2013 20:02

Diamond earrings and some prepper gear.

Catypillar · 01/12/2013 20:10

New rucksack with a padded bit for my laptop
Bobbi Brown black eyeliner (the one in the pot with the little brush)
Sleek eyeshadow palettes
Chocolate from Hotel Chocolat (which I never buy because it's too expensive)
A decent pen torch
Vegetable seeds
Really old medical textbooks (like 1950s or before)
Orla Kiely heattech top from Uniqlo
Lumie bodyclock

FergusSingsTheBlues · 01/12/2013 20:11

Pearl necklace, babyliss big hair and I'd like a new coffee table! Getting the first two .... Bcos I've basically bought them...

theQuibbler · 01/12/2013 20:25

Nomorecrumbs I love vanilla scents and have found these are grown up, good perfumes that will have people asking you what you're wearing. My favourite is Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille, which is big and bold, smoky and dark - not sweet at all. Guerlain's Spiritueuse Double Vanille is pure vanilla with a sort of boozy rum hit to it - but not overpowering. And Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille is worth trying, definitely rich, warm and buttery. Just so add, I'm afraid they are all heinously expensive!

MaxiMummi · 01/12/2013 20:47

Second the gym membership (preferably The Laboratory since you're in Muswell Hill!)

Failing which, the brightest lights possible for my bike. Or even better a new bike. Now I'm dreaming....

Lilacroses · 01/12/2013 20:58

"Time. Some time every week where dh takes the children out of the house and leaves me the fuck alone. And doesn't ring me to ask me questions or tell me funny things that dd says. Just lets me chill at home alone. (Has NEVER happened.)"

A few other people have said this.
has anyone asked for it, as a present or otherwise?

dp does kids' breakfast and tea every week day while I am commuting. for his present he is getting a night at a nice hotel (and I am packing ironed pjs, nice snacks and good reading but he doesn't know this yet)

I asked him what he wanted. He said "a lie in". This is where we landed. It's a posh lie in.
I am very happy about this because he is hard to buy for and I know what he wants for once :)

DISCLAIMER: DP IS NOT A WIFE

BlackBorderBin · 01/12/2013 21:10

If DH really bothered to notice me, he'd wrap up:
raspberry pi
some Lego - anything as long as I did n't have to share the build
vouchers to buy a decent stereo - I want to chose it, the last TWO of his choice have been crap
new boots
Day at a spa, with childcare taken care of
A day out anywhere with childcare taken care of.
Johnny Depp or Robert Downey Jr

Hulababy · 01/12/2013 21:14

I have been rather specific for DH this year. I would really like a new telephoto zoom for my DSLR, as my old one broe erlier this year. I know he will get it for me - and a darn good one too :) Dh is fab at chosing gifts though.

I have an Amazon wishlist (stuff from other places added to it too) for other relatives who ask for ideas - includes cook books, Prof Brian Cox books, camera accessories, kitchen/cooking stuff (I actually enjoy these - through choice), couple of pictures...

I definitely would never want vouchers or cash from DH though. Doesn't seem as though any thought would go into that at all!

Hulababy · 01/12/2013 21:15

BlackBorderBin - DH got me a Raspberry Pi last Christmas :)

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 01/12/2013 21:27

A handheld anemometer please.

inhibernation · 01/12/2013 21:34

Some nice gloves and a scarf
Decent nail varnish
Slippers
Work bag
Clarins moisturiser

sharond101 · 01/12/2013 21:36

What is a raspberry pi??

I'd like a day off. A long lie, tea being made for me. Lunch provided and dinner cooked. That is all.

A raspberry pi would be amazing. Other things I would like are:
A GOOD cordless drill (not a rubbish one which will burn out easily)
A router plus a voucher so I can get a selection of bits for it.
8 hours childcare so I can go to the library and get stuck into some local history research.
Jayne Ormonde perfume. The one I use, not just a random one.

Unfortunately I have no idea what your wife would like, OP. That is because you have given us no information whatsoever about the sort of person she is or what she likes. I bet she would like best for you to think about HER and the type of person she is and then get something based on that. Even if it's a bit wrong, it beats a generic handbag/chocolates/spa day present (which she might hate, as a number of us on here would).

The only present that has ever made me cry was when my DH typed out my favourite poem, spent ages getting the font/paper right and then framed it.

MB34 · 01/12/2013 21:47

I've had my Christmas present this year - I wanted a cordless Dyson Animal vacuum cleaner. The best part is I've told DH it's half his present too!! Grin

OP maybe not the best idea tho to get your DW a vacuum cleaner unless she's specifically asked for one or you could possibly end up the XH!!

Bicnod · 01/12/2013 21:49

hmmmm, this thread has actually prompted me to consider what I might like; I'd sort of forgotten I might get a present in the whole sorting out the kids extravaganza.

So, on my list is:

Neals Yard rose balm
Pyjamas (probably from fat face)
A massage voucher
Guitar lessons

QuintessentialShadows · 01/12/2013 21:51

My husband would really like to be part of a screening of Top Gear. Sad I have not been able to organize that.

Hulababy · 01/12/2013 21:59

sharond101: uk.rs-online.com/web/generalDisplay.html?id=raspberrypi - Raspberry Pi is a computer thing

evelynj · 01/12/2013 22:05

Earningsthread-please pm me if you & h ever divorce-I want him! Great presents.

Op, sorry you've had to listen to a load of people being offended that you have a wife, or that you haven't extended the thread title to say partners, girlfriends, significant others-why would women want anything different from men for that matter?

Anyway, I agree-you should ask her outright. Even to name 5 things. Encourage her to make an amazon wishlist. Half the fun of Christmas for me is just adding stuff to mine. Vouchers of 'me' time would be the best thing for me as it's something money can't buy, (anything where you look after other commitments & she can read, watch tv, go to spa)

The best gift I've ever had was my House of Colour colour analysis day this year for my birthday. I asked dh for it but totally loved it-it's £99. You can do a style bit as we'll for another £100ish. If you've lots of money & she likes shopping, how about an hour or 2 with a personal shopper after this? These are things where you can sanction a bigish spend without giving money!

We need budget, things she likes & loves etc

Good luck!

mumtoone1 · 01/12/2013 22:08

I've asked my DH for a book and a DVD. I intend on buying some much needed clothes next weekend and will treat as an early Christmas present. Need some new uggs too.

We also got a shared present this year - An iPad Air
