Wives - what would you like for Christmas?

What would you like your husband to buy you for Christmas?

All ideas welcome - I'm sure I'm not the only husband struggling for ideas!

Thanks

It's a tough one; what i really want is for him to know me well enough to get me something I love without me spelling it out.
This does not happen, although he has given me some really thoughtful things over the years, unless I provide guidance they are always a bit off and outwith budget.
This year i have asked for a sturdy mid-size suitcase, and oilcloth shoulder bag, some ganbei glasses (unfindable) or lobster crackers and picks. Any one of these would be great.

DH is brilliant at presents, one of the reasons I love him. Sometimes I say something specific I'd like, or he asks for a steer but so often he has remembered something I said I liked months ago and got it for birthday or Christmas, or got me something I wouldn't have chosen myself but is brilliant - seems to know me better than myself sometimes. He is thoughtful with others as well in the stuff he chooses for DDs and his parents.

I would like a trip away somewhere.

I wouldn't like cook books and kitchen items.

A set of small speakers to play my iPod/ipad through while I paint.
A nice mirror.
A new handbag.

ON amazon, it has a "gift list for HER". Nothing on that list, thank you.

Not a 'wife', but will overlook it this once and may even show DP this thread!

Snugly socks. That wrinkle in soft folds at my ankles
Beautiful nightwear nothing fancy, but pyjamas from somewhere other than M&S
Expensive candle, Jo Malone or similar ( they have some fab ones in TK Maxx) acceptable
A weekend away in a naice hotel, without DD.
A purse to match my Mulberry Bag
Money to buy clothes with
Book vouchers
Subscription for frivolous magazine of my choice
Jewellery
My perfumes, I have run out of both and can't afford to buy another

Anything that has not been purchased last minute from Costco!

Actually I removed the perfume names, as he would know immediately who I was!!!!

Dear OP

The handbags etc are nice suggestions but I wouldn't want anyone to choose a new bag for me - not even DH. May I suggest to you that you buy her one (or something else nice) but tell her that it's jsut a suggestion and that you have kept the receipt & won't be offended if she wants to change it. (It makes life easier if you pay in cash.)

Please don't buy gift vouchers - so boring to open. You might as well do what my DH did to me on my birthday one year - pulled up outside Sainsbury's, gave me a £20 note & said "Go and get yourself some flowers" Shock

A book is a good idea if she likes reading - a vast array of titles that she might not think to buy for herself or if you're a cheapskate, go to the library!

I wouldn't want a spa day either.

My DH did that Miranda as we were leaving hospital with newborn dd.
We passed a flower stall and I hinted that it would be nice to get some flowers, so he gave me the money to choose and buy my own - but I was still pleased with them though < easily pleased emoticon Smile >

Not only are gift vouchers boring to open, they don't show the thought of an actual present and will be worth less to the recipient than cash/a cheque would be. Plus there's the risk of the shop going bust and taking the value of the gift voucher with it. They are a scam and shouldn't be given to anyone as presents.

minesapintoftea, good point. but I am uneasy with giving cash although in my heart I know it is much more useful to people I don't know very well.
Mini hijack: a case in point is my CM. I can get her some small nice frippery, some nonsense for her kids too for my kids to wrap up, but really I know they are not well off and some actual monetary gift towards their xmas to do as they like with would be the best use of any serious money (by which I mean any more than £10 really). I was wondering whether M&S vouchers would be useful (but they might not shop there, who does on a budget - same with John Lewis). Then I thought: you can get anything from Amazon. Almost anything from Sainsbos or Tesco. Should I just bite the bullet and give cash? Trouble is... what I can afford might not look like much... and is that crude?

If you want to spend about £10 either get a big tin of chocolates or cash. The value of any gift voucher would also be written on it so its not like giving a gift voucher looks like you've given more.

youretoastmildred · 02/12/2013 16:52

I was more thinking the chocolates AND something like £30 in some kind of voucher or cash form. is it ok to give £30? or an insult?

Report
AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 02/12/2013 16:53

youretoastmildred, depending on how many mindees she has £10 from each family could add up to a reasonable amount as a Christmas bonus. And it can be spent wherever they need to spend it.

Report
AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 02/12/2013 16:55

I'm not spending £30 each on my actual relatives, so it had better not look like an insult...

youretoastmildred · 02/12/2013 16:58

Oh god no neither am I, my present for my dad and my niece cost £8 each! But I thought hard about them, and I know they don't need money from me, so this is different. Actually now I think of it I should probably give niece some money too because she is 11 and does need money from me, where else is she going to get it from

OP - there are some amazing shops in Muswell Hill!

Tom Foolery for jewellery - or that place opposite on the corner opposite the Logie Baird pub.
Frocks Away for clothes and accessories.
Charlie - ditto.
Crocodile Antiques for more kitchy accessories.
Oxygene (beautician next to Post Office) - voucher for a massage, etc.
The houseware shop just down from Frocks Away for cushions and other house-type stuff, if that is her thing.
The Manor Gym on Fortis Green Road if wants a gym membership.

And that's before we get to the chains:

Sweaty Betty for funky gym/lounge wear - the ladies in there are lovely and will help you!
Whistles
etc etc etc

THERE IS MASSES OF STUFF!!

I would be delighted with a few good books to cosy up with and maybe a bottle of Diptyque perfume.

But what I REALLY want is the 1995 model Geo Safari that I had as a child. And there is no way DH or anyone else will ever be able to find it. Sad
