Christmas morning breakfast - finger food

clr2014 · 25/11/2013 22:47

We usually have smoked salmon on wheaten / soda bread which we pass round with Bucks Fizz while stockings are being opened in the living room. Time is tight as we head out about 10:30, so no time for a sit down affair. I wondered if anyone had any better ideas?

Have thought about those 'christmas morning muffins' .... but i think when i last made them they didn't live up to the hype.

Anyone else got inspiration for finger food brekkie?

TIA

We have pain au chocolate and croissants with hot tea. Can't wait!

2anddone · 25/11/2013 22:51

How about the Christmas tree crumpets and waffles from asda?

fluffaduck · 25/11/2013 22:52

We do lots of toast cut in to fingers, crumpets, croissants, fruit, plain yoghurt and various preserves/spread (the ones in the little jars) lay it all out on the table and everyone dives in. Quick enough to do and not something we do everyday. Can be a little sticky if you have LO Smile

bagels - can do lots of fillings

Jellypudmum · 25/11/2013 23:04

Continental brekkie: croissants, rolls, cheeses, Parma ham, conserves etc

tooearlytobeup · 25/11/2013 23:07

We generally eat the chocolate from the selection boxes Blush

ipswichwitch · 25/11/2013 23:12

Pain au chocolat. And lots of it!!

WallyBantersJunkBox · 25/11/2013 23:44

HAS NO ONE SEEN THE CHRISTMAS TREE SHAPED CRUMPETS AT ASDA!!!!!!!!!

Grin

I am baking frozen cinnamon pastries for the morning, and will toast some panettone to serve with preserves.

Otherwise I will end up eating a disc of shortbread to myself with a huge steaming teapot for one!

WallyBantersJunkBox · 25/11/2013 23:46

Ah 2anddone you have....Blush

Cremolafoam · 25/11/2013 23:55

I want those Christmas crumpets!!!
They sound brilliant. No one apart from me eats breakfast in this house so I'll be having a whole packet. Yay !
And some Buck's Fizz .

Cremolafoam · 25/11/2013 23:59

cranberry flapjacks

callmekitten · 26/11/2013 01:02

I make homemade cinnamon rolls the night before and put them in the refigerator, unbaked, overnight. They bake while we open presents and then we have them for breakfast with coffee and hot chocolate.

clr2014 · 26/11/2013 09:52

Great ideas! Will investigate the crumpets next time I'm near an asda. Tell me more about the cinnamon rolls... How do I do?

Cinnamon rolls here too... But in my case I've bought them frozen from Ikea and will just throw them straight from the freezer into the oven for 15 minutes on Christmas morning. Easy peasy. Wink

I have made them fresh before and, as callmekitten says, kept them unbaked in the fridge. But fridge space is a premium due to the number of guests and I'm working on Christmas Eve, so going for the quick and easy method this year!

FruitOwl · 26/11/2013 10:45

Ooh I love Christmas breakfast! This year we're having croissants with honey/jam and then smoked salmon & scrambled eggs. And loads of Bucks Fizz Smile

somersethouse · 26/11/2013 10:47

Sounds fabulous ... does anyone have a link or the récipe for the cinnamon rolls?

I'm in Spain and no chance of getting them here. I bet the house smells so Christmassy, I would love to make them.

TerraNotSoFirma · 26/11/2013 10:54

I have the tree crumpets and star waffles in the freezer right now :-)
Will do some cinnamon pastries as well.

Madmog · 26/11/2013 11:02

Pain au chocolat and crossiants here. My daughter insists on her usual cereal and toast first though, so she has a massive breakfast!

lucyonaspaceshipwithdinos · 26/11/2013 11:05

Cinnamon rolls here too. With coffee and hazelnut hot chocolate and Buck's Fizz.

I make them the night before, but it relies on my housemates plying me with alcohol the night before as I make better cinnamon rolls while drunk!

ipswichwitch · 26/11/2013 11:07

Oh god I must have cinnamon rolls they sound fabulous! From ikea you say.... That'll be us heading straight there this weekend and cinnamon rolls for breakfast every day now!

SantaIKnowHimIKnowHim · 26/11/2013 11:42

We usually have smoked salmon on bagels or toast. Kids will either have the smoked salmon and bagels or a choice of cereals or some croissants.
Not to mention attacking the selection boxes Blush

ginslinger · 26/11/2013 11:49

Chocolate

peggyundercrackers · 26/11/2013 11:55

we normally have chocolate then bacon rolls and champers :)

HavingAnOffDAy · 26/11/2013 12:03

I've seen the crumpets Wally. My DD had the teddy ones last weekend and they were awful Sad.

They don't have any salt in them which means it's like having a sponge in your mouth.

siblingrevelry · 26/11/2013 12:10

Morrisons do large cinnamon roll/pastry/bread share & tear type things in xmas shapes - last year was chocolate chip & orange bread in shape of candy cane, think this year it's a rudolph shape.

We'll be having this agian with coffee first thing, then bacon rolls/blinis (pre-bought blini's, just top with cream cheese and salmon - 5 mins prep, bite sized so easy to eat and fulfils the savoury requirment)
