They're quite small too, I picked up the creeper last night. Very cute though and good quality.

MrsPnut · 13/11/2013 09:14

Has anyone received their bird print scarf yet? I can't remember whether I've been charged for the postage because I can't remember which card I used to pay it Blush

LaTrucha · 13/11/2013 09:16

I've just read the leaflet from Lidl and they say they are going to have their Christmas cellophane in this week. Do I mean cellophane? The see through plastic wraping paper. Brain fail.

BarfaStewart · 13/11/2013 09:17

Rosie, people can't win really, can they? You accuse posters of pandering to gender stereotypes, therefore saying that they should be aware of the sexualisation and stereotyping of our children, then when they say "actually, I bought a science kit to combat that" you accuse them of saying that science kits are actually for boys.

I am a feminist. I love make up, especially nail polish, shoes and clothes. I have bought my niece this for Xmas, a feminism for children book and also a sewing machine and knitting set (which she has specifically asked for) and last year I made her a baking box, complete with a hand-written recipe book.

Some girls DO like traditionally "girly" things. Should we refuse to buy them what they want and instead what we think they should like? Or let them make up their own mind about this stuff and know that it's ok to like and be what they want?

Kipsy · 13/11/2013 09:30

Rosie this is the second time that I have read a post from you that jars with the spirit of the thread. First, you said that posts asking for help finding a bargain were tedious. And now you accuse people of being sexist because they buy children what they like!
Let children do what they want - and get what they want.... and stop being so judgemental please.

I'm pretty sure the parents on here are not trying to enforce their tastes/likes on the child - because that would only make for a disappointing present.

Pogosticks · 13/11/2013 09:32

Rosie I know what you mean and I find it kind of sad too, not in a 'you sexist bargain hunters' way just that everything is so GIRL/BOY when it didn't seem to be like that when I was growing up.

I hate the 'Girls are best' book too - wow I'm grumpy today - girls aren't best. Girls and boys are equal.

EustaciaVye · 13/11/2013 09:32

my dd has the Wild Science Magic Nail Laboratory kit. A lovely combination of girly nails and science Wink

RosieBloom32 · 13/11/2013 09:33

The point is that buying a sceince kit was mentioned as proof that they are not buying just 'girl things'.

Therby implying a science kit is a boys toy.

Does that go over some of your heads? Grin

And football was obv just an example of boys being allowed to be boys. Replace with whatever you wish. I bet its not one based on his looks waits for someone to pop up with their 12yo boy and his modelling career

RosieBloom32 · 13/11/2013 09:33

*Replace with whatever hobby you like

JaquelineHyde · 13/11/2013 09:37

Bloody hell in this house we currently have the girls in to everything pink fluffy and shite with a bit of one direction thrown in and the boys in to pirates, science and football.

It's what they like so it's what they are asking for and what they are getting.

What you don't know is that DS1 has had his own pushchair, ironing board set, hoover and dolls sets and the DDs have both gone through stages of being spies, footballers and Spiderman (quite bizarrely) and have had all the outfits and equipment for it.

There is no gender stereotyping or everyday sexism in this house just lots of children who pick what they want to play with, when they want to play with it. This year they just happen to be conforming to gender stereotypes and so fucking what, if they are happy, so be it.

MooseyMoo · 13/11/2013 09:38

derektheladyhamster · 13/11/2013 09:40

joymaker I bought both the puppies and hamster zhu zhus from tescos. There was a puppy and a hamster in the sets.

BarfaStewart · 13/11/2013 09:40

Um, no, not gone over my head dear Smile

However, on one hand you are moaning that they don't seem to understand how buying "girly" things is gender stereotyping, on the other you are accusing them of thinking that a science kit is a boys toy. That simply isn't the case. A science kit is, if you want to get into stereotyping, a "boys toy" that myth is perpetuated by the toy stores and media. Very little is taught in school about female scientists. By buying a science kit the posters in question are challenging that myth, as well as acknowledging that some girls do like pink sparkly shit. That is a well-rounded view imo.

Or is that going over your head?

SpottyTeacakes · 13/11/2013 09:43

Dd's at nursery today so I'm tempted to start some wrapping when ds has his nap exciting!

Pachacuti · 13/11/2013 09:46

No, Rosie, that was in your head.

You said "I would much pefer for my relatives to buy my daughters something that didn't promote the sexualisation of young children."

Then 3bunnies said in direct response "Ah well you would love my dd's presents Rosie- physics sets, electronic kits, scooby doo..." (i.e. you would like these presents because they don't promote the sexualisation of young children, which is what you said you wanted just twenty minutes earlier)

But apparently you didn't like them, because you responded "saying I'm not sexist Inbiught my dd a science kit really is gender stereotryping isn't it?" and now "buying a sceince kit was mentioned as proof that they are not buying just 'girl things'." 3bunnies didn't actually say either of those things ("I'm not sexist because..." or "not buying just 'girl things'"), by the way.

Perhaps you meant "I would much prefer for my relatives to buy my daughters something that didn't promote the sexualisation of young children, but they mustn't ever ever mention what those things are, even in the middle of a conversation that's specifically about gifts that don't promote the sexualisation of young children , because that would be gender stereotyping"?

JaquelineHyde · 13/11/2013 09:46

Spotty I have done half of my wrapping so far. It's great seeing it all done and put away Grin

YeahBuddy · 13/11/2013 09:47

M&P code now gone.

I'm coming to the end of my shopping now and I actually feel really :( about it!

LoreleisSecret · 13/11/2013 09:48

Let's ignore Rosie.
She's being goady and looking for an argument, do not rise to the bait people!

My son is currently playing with a doc mcstuffin play set. Pink and sparkly it is. Fancy that! Allowing a female to be a doctor. I got it from the girls section too Grin poor kid.

BarfaStewart · 13/11/2013 09:48

Spotty, I started mine the other day, but still have loads to do. DH and I went through our list yesterday, just got big presents to get.
