Breakfast on Christmas morning?

This is one of the many arguments we have RE Christmas.
Do you make your DC have breakfast before opening presents? DP thinks they should, but I disagree, it seems mean to me.
I'm thinking of maybe getting them some M&S Chocolate Brioche for me the DC to eat during present opening?

we always have chocolate from the stockings in bed for breakfast lol! Usually we then go down and do presents before a real breakfast - there is no way my daughter would sit still and eat knowing there were surprises in the other room!

We do stockings, then breakfast, then main presents.

It helps break up the unwrapping frenzy, plus I need coffee and food before the main event!

My DC are 4 and 18 months if that makes any difference? I don't think theres a chance 4yo DS will eat any breakfast knowing santas been!

When I was a child, the rule was that we could only start on the under the tree presents once dinner was all sorted and in the oven. The anticipation was the best bit of the day! It draws the whole thing out.
So, I do the same with DS. Stocking first thing, then breakfast and playing with stocking presents. Then we do tree presents when other people arrive and lunch is sorted.

Ah open the presents first I think!!! Maybe have give them a glass of juice and a banana or something quick but not the whole sit down, table set job. It would ruin the excitement.

Oh we can't wait!!! We do presents and stockings all in the living room then breakfast (in between copious amounts of chocolate!).

We let them open presents first, then breakfast.

One year I was feeling domestic goddess-like and made pancakes for breakfast. This has now become the firmest of family tradition and is demanded every year. I rue the day I ever suggested pancakes on Christmas morning....

Stockings are done on the bed. Dressing gowns on.
Follow the trail of chocolate coins on the landing, down the stairs through the hall, leading to the main event. Presents!!

Who gives a shit who eats breakfast? Dinner will be ginormous.

it's a bit different now that mine are 13 and 12 - the present opening goes by in a flash, so we have breakfast after. They wake up open their stockings, get sent back to bed for as long as we can make them, then get up open presents and have breakfast.

However, when they were little, they used to wake up later, open stockings and then be quite happy to stay upstairs with a brioche an a carton or drink of milk and an apple playing with their stocking gifts. OH and I would grab a shower and get dressed during this time before getting them washed and dressed and we'd all then go down and do the tree presents which would take a good hour or so and then we'd have a late proper breakfast. Dinner at 3 and pudding for supper before bed.

Oh so it appears we're unusual...We do stockings, breakfast, then when whole family are together (including those who travel) - late morning presents (with champagne and canapes).

Stockings (small one on bed) lolly trail to tree and Santa pressies. Chocolate and sweets if they like.

I cook brunch, croissants, sausages, bacon & egg butties for whoever wants it and ILS when they come over.

Only really do it to punctuate the day and get them dressed. Family presents after breakfast. Crack open fizz.

What is the idea of making children wait to open presents?

We do stockings in our bed, maybe a little bit of chocolate.
Then downstairs for breakfast, I think we have bagels with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.
We don't really have lunch, just some nibbles, we eat our big dinner at about 6.

(1) Stocking in bedroom for kids.
(2) A couple of small presents downstairs (sometimes in another stocking if just us and ds or a couple from under tree if other young family there) while adults are having coffee and breakfast.
(3) Then the rest of the presents from under the tree once the kids have had something to eat other than chocolate.

In theory anyway. Doesn't always work out like that though!

We do stockings, breakfast, play with stocking presents.
Dinner on, half tree presents with booze & nibbles before christmas dinner (at 1pm) the rest of the presents after. we don't have lots of presents but we like to spread the excitement out over the day. It's what my family did when I was growing up. And it works for us :)

Very small breakfast though. Always have ingredients for a full cooked breakfast but normally end up with just a quick toast and a coffee. Don't want to keep them waiting too long!

I had to have breakfast before opening presents when I was little, and I was never given a stocking. My DC get to open their stockings as soon as they wake up. They then have breakfast before opening the bigger presents. They haven't complained yet and they are 11, 5 and 3.

Stockings, breakfast, church if we are going, presents. By the time I was 16 presents happened at 4pm with the Christmas cake.

If you open presents before breakfast, isn't the rest of the day an absolute anticlimax?? I can't imagine having the best part of the day done and dusted before 9am!

My parents used to make us have breakfast after stockings- I have vivid memories of sitting on the floor with a bowl of fucking ready brek while all I could see was my presents that I was forbidden to touch :(
This year I hope to do stockings by the fire, breakfast then church and pub. Big presents after the pub while dinner is cooking, dinner then bed. How successful this will be remains to be seen :o
