Breakfast on Christmas morning?

This is one of the many arguments we have RE Christmas.
Do you make your DC have breakfast before opening presents? DP thinks they should, but I disagree, it seems mean to me.
I'm thinking of maybe getting them some M&S Chocolate Brioche for me the DC to eat during present opening?

We're going to try stockings, breakfast (Coco Pops out of their stockings to make it interesting, because it's usually Weetabix), then pressies when people arrive - around 10ish. Partly because my parents are upset about missing the Santa bit, but also because our two get very overwrought and cranky when they're hungry, and combined with the general excitement, it could get very unpleasant!

DH used to have to get up and go straight out to rehearse and then sing at mass (after doing midnight mass as well) before either breakfast or pressies. He and his brothers were used to doing it from the age of 6 so it didn't bother them.

Stockings in bed. Chocolate eaten.

Presents opened, then mum goes to make bacon butties.

That was the rule when we were little.

Now, pre-kids, we do stockings (with one small main pressie in stocking), I then make bacon butties, then we open pressies with bacon butties and champagne.

We have breakfast before anything gets opened.

We get the Kellogs variety packs so it's only a small breakfast and the we all go and have a look to see if he has been!

It's very exciting because they don't even know whether Santa has visited until we go into the sitting room. The anticipation and excitement on their faces is fantastic, then we all pile in tear everything open Grin

My DC are 10 and 7. So one non believer this year. Sad

Stockings in our room no earlier than 7am, then dressed, follow jellybean trail downstairs to Santa gift. Then dressed, breakfast.

All other presents after lunch around 4pm. Although if they nag incessantly we let them open 2 or 3 before this.

This year, I am determined to enjoy it myself and stop worrying about what we should do and making it perfect.

This involves a whatever approach, playing it by eat and LOTS of Prosecco.Grin

Playing it by ear

Stocking, breakfast, Church, walk, light lunch (smoked salmon and champagne Grin) then presents during the afternoon, Queen's speech, Christmas meal in the evening.

That was the routine I had when growing up - although we also had the neighbours in for drinks after church, had a walk after lunch & before presents Grin.

Never forget one year when we had to wait for Boxing Day for the presents, something to do with people working and not being around.

This year we will be on a skiing holiday so it will be totally different Grin.

Our dc have woken at 3am in the past. Its a good year if they stay asleep until 5am. Breakfast is generally a tin of roses. I do attempt to wade through wrapping paper to reach each of the dc with a piece of toast

sadsometimes · 09/11/2013 16:34

Stockings, dog walk /ponies fed, breakfast, presents, Church, light lunch, walk, film/present playing, Christmas dinner

olibeansmummy · 09/11/2013 16:35

We go to SILs for breakfast at around 10am so it'll be stocking and Santa presents for ds first thing. He's getting far too much rather a lot so he may have to leave some til we get back... Not sure how well that'll go down, but hopefully the prospect of seeing his cousins will be enough for him. Then I think we'll have presents from under the tree after lunch or maybe have Christmas dinner at tea time and presents first depending on how hungry we are. There's just me, dh and ds for lunch so can be flexible :)

Titsalinabumsquash · 09/11/2013 16:45

I let them do wtf they like (so presents first thing!) I used to get made to wait until m&d had coffee and a leisurely breakfast before we got to dive in, I used to loath waiting.

hallowisitmeyourelookingfor · 09/11/2013 19:19

Bloody hell ruby, I have had to wake mine at 8 every year! Normally as we have to go somewhere, or we have people coming round so they need to get up and I am also desperate for them to open their stockings! But I would cry if I was up before 7 on Christmas day, I'd have run out of steam by 4pm!

Retropear · 09/11/2013 19:32

Very rushed rushed Panettone, butter and Illy coffee- and a shed load of chocolate.

Doshusallie · 09/11/2013 19:36

Stockings breakfast get dressed presents under tree. Non negotiable.

DTisMYdoctor · 09/11/2013 19:44

DS normally has some cereal during present opening, but this year I'm planning on making some Christmas muffins --to be followed by selection box chocolate-/

shutitweirdo · 09/11/2013 19:56

We always have breakfast first, then someone hands out all the presents, then you can open them. This was how it was for me growing up. One year I was about 7, we woke up at 3 am and my parents took us on a 4 mile hike to my aunts house to drop her card off. Never did that again.

SquirrelNuts · 09/11/2013 20:09

We've been hanging the stockings on the living room fireplace since ds was born, but maybe i'll move them to their beds this year open them first and have quick breakfast, we'll see! Why am I worrying about this in November? Hmm
