In my heart, I want to do it now Wink

I know I feel it to! We will be putting them up on 1st december (ive got a day of work im dedicating to it ) however my dd(13) has been making and crafting decorations for ages and her room allready looks like christmas has threw up on it , so whenever I go in for something it makes me feel a bit christmassy!

curiousgeorgie · 04/11/2013 20:46

My DD is 3 and wants Christmas now... I relented somewhat and gave her a musical robin to play with out of the Christmas basket Grin

Me too :)

But in reality I'll hold off until the last Sunday in November - we like them up for the whole of December and until Twelfth Night. I've never understood people who put them up a few days before Christmas/take them down a couple of days after Christmas - who wouldn't want their home to look sparkly and cosy for as long as possible?!

bundaberg · 04/11/2013 20:51

i am going to do it when the children break up from school. so the 18th december

i was saying a while ago to a friend that i find it really hard making my house feel christmassy and i'm sure part of that is because it's all over the place so early that by the time christmas comes it just doesn't feel that special any more!

so working on making it a bit more magical this year

RobinVanPrissy · 04/11/2013 20:54

Always wait until after my (long dead) granny's birthday on Dec 12th. That was when Christmas started when we were kids.

Take it down on NY's Eve. Depressing having tinsel and baubles about in January!

Lagoonablue · 04/11/2013 20:56

This annoys me very year! Christmas starts on or near 24th Dec. decs stay up til 12th night! Putting them up in. Nov and taking them down on Boxing Day is madness I tell you.

WipsGlitter · 04/11/2013 20:57

DP will say 14th December. I'd prefer to wait a week after that...

curiousgeorgie · 04/11/2013 21:02

The 24th is too late! There's too much to do that day Shock

No more than a week before Christmas. Often the weekend before, but if the weekend falls quite late say around the 22/23 I may do it a day or two earlier. Down by 2nd or 3rd January.

JaquelineHyde · 04/11/2013 21:05

I normally put them up the week before Christmas and take them down on the 12th night.

However, I am thinking of putting them up a little earlier this year as I am looking forward to Christmas so much this year.

PaperPomPom · 04/11/2013 21:06

1 December! Normally it's more like 10th but DH and I have to stay at the house all day so thought we might as well.

MiconiumHappens · 04/11/2013 21:08

01 Dec Smile

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/11/2013 21:08

The advent tree for the 1st Dec
Our Nordic Bedding will go on 1st Dec.
DD and DS can have their fleeces.

DS birthday on the 7th so no other decoration until 14th or the weekend nearest before that.

All decorations taken down on the 1st January (because I'm a bit blase by then )

olibeansmummy · 04/11/2013 21:22

We're putting them up on 7th December as ds is going to see Father Christmas on the 8th, they'll be down on the 2nd Jan as no point in them being up when we go back to work/ school.

Cravey · 04/11/2013 21:32

Ours go up the 30 November and the lights are turned on that eve to say happy birthday to my little brother who died. He loved xmas so this is my way of doing something to remember him. Lagoon blue surely it's each to their own ?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/11/2013 21:36

Cravey that is a beautiful tribute to your brother.
Do you have a particular decoration that is "his" ?

WallyBantersJunkBox · 04/11/2013 21:36

Window lights, advent candles and advent calendars go out for the 1st/ first weekend of advent. It's the tradition here. (Switzerland)

I have already changed the living room cushions and throws, got all the sheepskins and the reindeer skin on. The winter beds will change on the first advent weekend.

Second week will probably mean the downstairs tree (DH's and DS's tree) in the hallway will go up, and the non tree decorations in the living room will come out, candles etc.

Following Sunday will be the big tree in the living room - always decorated whilst watching BlackAdders Christmas Carol. Grin

Cravey · 04/11/2013 21:45

No special decs as such just lots of lights, he loved them. My mum has a small twiggy type tree that has his decs on. Lots of things with his name on.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/11/2013 21:49

30th Nov is St Andrews Day Cravey

This year you could buy a string of bright blue lights like the Scottish flag?

Cravey · 04/11/2013 22:03

Something to think about. I love blue light anyway.

FakeAngel · 05/11/2013 08:48

16 year old DD put her tree up in her room last night. But she's wonderfully, ahem, individual and puts her tree up in time for bonfire night every year, bless her.

I don't mind a bit because I can sit in her room eating mince pies and listening to carols while she's at school

TessCackle · 05/11/2013 08:50

The evening of the 22nd November
My DD's birthday and the first time she won't be spending the night of it here so I'm distracting myself with the decorating.

Onesleeptillwembley · 05/11/2013 08:50

Up on last free day before Christmas. Down January 2nd. Really don't understand people putting them up so early.

FakeAngel · 05/11/2013 08:52

Cravey that's lovely. My little brother went missing 9 years ago come Christmas and it's his birthday on Dec 14th so December is quite bittersweet really.

stickysausages · 05/11/2013 08:56

Up 1st November now we have a little one :)

Seems weird opening an advent calendar without decorations up!?

Plus the shops are full of stuff from Easter onwards ;)
