Special festive title for spottyteacakes Grin . Here we go people, the THIRD bargain Christmas thread for 2013 already . Please forgive the fact that so many sale and amazon products aren?t individually linked or are linked but price may since change by the time you click on it - so many of them are out of stock and amazon seem to change prices on an almost hourly basis (it feels like) on a number of items that were previously linked to. As usual please tell me if any of these links/codes don?t work or if there?s anything particularly you want to be in the next OP (assuming there is another Wink ) how would I do any shopping without you now

Thanks for all your help in helping my christmas shopping in 2013 be once again bargainous Grin

JustasmallGless · 21/08/2013 21:24

Thanks for the bottle links.
I made citrus whisky and Xmas pud vodka one year and limoncello and sloe gin last year.
Might try skittle vodka this year for a change and raspberry gin.
My DSIS goes a bit doolalley on vodka so can't give her that!!

JustasmallGless · 21/08/2013 21:27

Cheap as chips vodka is fine - I went to Aldi last year for mine

Oreocrumbs · 21/08/2013 21:29

IJustNeedANap You only need cheap stuff, you are heavily flavouring it, and no it won't go off, it's 40% proof!

Ikea do kilner type jars for between £1 and £2, then you can either buy smaller bottles if you want to hand them out, or soak the labels off the original gin/vodka bottle and reuse that for the finished product if you are keeping it or just making one big bottle each.

attheendoftheday - I haven't found a recipe but for 1l of vodka I would get a 1.5 - 1.8l kilner jar (ikea) and quarter fill it with sweets then pour on the vodka. Keep it in the under stairs cupboard and shake regularly. taste at 2 months and see how its going.

I saw on the thread moosey linked that you were asking about the skittles, AFAIK you would split a bottle of vodka into 4 jam jars (cleaned and sterilised) and then quarter fill each one with different colour skittles. Same shake and store as above and decant into 4 small bottlers. You give all 4 as a gift, so one red, green, orange, yellow. Don't put them all in together or you just get poo coloured!

Bangonthedoor · 21/08/2013 21:33

DD will be 20 months at xmas iloveholidays

Shes very active, loves animals and very girly!

Bangonthedoor · 21/08/2013 21:34

The owl necklace will be a perfect stocking filler! Thank you leilandri

Leilandri · 21/08/2013 21:41

Bang something like this might be good from £land brush

or the £1 happyland grab bags as mentioned previously.

IJustNeedANap · 21/08/2013 21:46

Brilliant thanks Oreo Grin I'm very excited to start this weekend. Just need to get on the hunt for some jam jars I don't like jam and ill try the different colour skittles too. If I made some now as a trial run would I have time to make a trial and then an actual one for Christmas to give as a little gift?

JustBecauseICan · 21/08/2013 21:46

I have ordered an owl necklace as well, thank you for link! Dd is bonkers about owls!

MultumInParvo · 21/08/2013 21:51

cashmere wraps and pashminas these are a bargain at £9.99 for a cashmere wrap

Chocolateteabag · 21/08/2013 21:55

I would be careful with the Ikea "Kilner" jars as they don't always have the best of seals (speaking from experience of dribbly sloe and damson gin jars)
raspberry Vodka is delish and you can use frozen raspberries or even try the summer fruits frozen packs.

98percentchocolate · 21/08/2013 21:55

Got the owl necklaced as a gift for dsis (and a similar one for me for £1.11 and free delivery!). Going to get the £1 brush and clips in town tomorrow Thanks

iloveholidays · 21/08/2013 21:56

Bang. That was the age of DD2 last Christmas so trying to think what I got her.

I'd keep a look out in the supermarkets for accessories, bead necklaces etc, hair stuff. I managed to get some at Sainsburys with 70% off the ther week.

Bath toys from pound shop

Stationery sets

Bottles or beakers

Cutlery sets

Play doh

Socks

Character bubble bath (although I put this in the Christmas Eve hampers)

Books

Last year I put in some party bag tat but I am avoiding that this year. Luckily as I'm picking stuff up as I go along I'm managing to get some quite good stuff.

Sorry, I've not actually helped in respect of bargains, just ideas!

IJustNeedANap · 21/08/2013 21:59

Chocolate the raspberry vodka sounds yum too.

I'm my alcoholic excitement I forgot to mention that sainsburys have half price on there children's character backpacks, I got a Minnie Mouse one today for £4.99 instead of £9.99 and there was alot of others to

98percentchocolate · 21/08/2013 22:01

Not sure if anyone mentioned it before but poundland has a few Thomas and Fireman Sam dvds here

Oreocrumbs · 21/08/2013 22:02

Multum thanks for the link have ordered a wrap for myself! Ordered a pashmina too that may be a gift, but I doubt it.

pantshavenames · 21/08/2013 22:03

Just slightly off topic, we have an uber brambled garden, so I am currently on box 6 of blackberries in the freezer after a week of harvesting. Can i make blackberry vodka and if so how ? I would love a (v small) cellar to mArk our first year at home .

JustBecauseICan · 21/08/2013 22:04

I forgot to mention I found Calvin Klein eyeshadow in my local Poundland!

Oreocrumbs · 21/08/2013 22:31

That's a lovely idea pants.

I would make bramble vodka and gin (but then I'm a lush). You can use them from frozen or fresh and I would do it by eye. I would fill the jar about 1/2 full with fruit, then add about half as much sugar as there is fruit and fill the jar up with spirit.

Taste after a couple of months, you might need lots more sugar or maybe just a little (depending on your taste and the sweetness of the fruit). Shake the mix when you put it together, but from then on just gently turn it every few days. About 3 months to mature.

attheendoftheday · 21/08/2013 22:53

Oreo thank you so much, I will have a go this weekend. Hopefully it will make a present for my brother.

chirpchirp · 21/08/2013 22:55

This is the. Xmas pud recipethat I use. Make it in early October in a few empty 2ltr bottles, makes it easier to store and shake daily. I then sieve and decant the last week in November and whack in the freezer until it's time to drink it all gift to friends and family. By then it's usually nice and thick and is great served with ice cream soda. This year I'm doing a bottle of this and a bag of [[http://therecipecritic.com/2012/10/slow-cooker-cinnamon-almonds/]] for childminder, best mates mum and neighbour if of course I don't scoff everything first.

chirpchirp · 21/08/2013 22:55

Sorry, link should have been - therecipecritic.com/2012/10/slow-cooker-cinnamon-almonds/

Snowgirl1 · 21/08/2013 22:57

Madamginger thanks for the heads up on the Boots offers - I've just ordered £54 worth of clothes for DD for £32 (and I'll also get 1% cashback from quidco too and some Boots points!)

alistron1 · 21/08/2013 22:58

I like this thread. It's my safe room from real life.

Oreocrumbs · 21/08/2013 23:05

IJustNeedANap, I'm not sure if you have time to do a full trial because I think you will need best part of 3 months, but I haven't actually done the sweeties myself yet, so maybe one of the others who have can advise better.

But seriously this isn't difficult, you don't really need to practice. You could google dishwasher vodka - I haven't really looked into it but I think basically you put it all in the jar in the dishwasher and it is ready very quickly. You would have to look into that though, I like the easy slow way!

R.e jam jars, you can buy really cheap asda smartprice stuff in jars, I think last year someone said that the lemon curd is 20p a jar. You could knock up a lemon tart and use the empty jars from that (or chuck it out, but I'm not sure that's very PC in these austere times).

joymaker · 22/08/2013 01:00

Thanks all who have been looking out for the V Tech toot toot cars.

sameoldIggi saw the Amazon 3 for £14.99 (which works out a fiver each about the same as Sainsbury's with 25% off and the Debenhams 20% off deals pointed out by other MNetters up thread) but surely you don't mean a fiver for the set of THREE last year or do you? Grin If so pray tell me more, was it close to Christmas?
